Chapter 564: Chapter 435: Shielding and Weakening (First update)

With a loud "bang," the container full of various cell phones was suddenly knocked over and smashed onto the two monsters. Accompanied by two painful screams, the container shattered and exploded, scattering countless high-end brand mobile phones everywhere. The two beasts were heavily crushed and knocked down to the ground, unable to get up for a while.

In just a moment, the entire hall was filled with invading monsters, swarming towards everyone. Li Dong released his duplicate, his main body escaping to the second floor via the elevator, while his duplicate stayed below to resist the onslaught of monsters with the others. His summoned giant bee, as large as a millstone, furiously stung a group of Yalasa Monsters. Each time a sting hit a monster, they howled in agony and fought back with their tails, producing a crisp "pop" and the giant bee would shatter and explode.

In the team, Liu Zheng’s mutation was particularly interesting. As a Level Five Black Iron Warrior, after his mutation, everything except his legs had transformed into a giant panda.

However, the half-panda mutation he turned into was incredibly ferocious. His hands were like two great fans, with a "slap" he could bend a steel beam. When a Yalasa Monster lashed its tail, he intercepted it with his hands.

Unfortunately, this Yalasa Monster had a Seventh Level strength. With a "slap," Liu Zheng cried out in pain, and his mutated panda hands instantly shattered. His body was sent flying as if electrocuted.

The seventh-level Yalasa Monster sprung forward in a sprint, extending its right claw to finish off the injured Liu Zheng.

In the nick of time, Cao Xiaoyu, who’d been close behind Liu Zheng, rushed forward. He spread his hands and managed to grab the outstretched right claw of the Seventh-Level Yalasa Monster.

After the treason and death of Xu Ruyun, Liu Zheng was the only one left alive from his group. After the deaths of Shangguan Wan and An Xiaoyang, Cao Xiaoyu was the only one left from his group.

Maybe that’s why, among everyone, Liu Zheng and Cao Xiaoyu had the strongest bond, even though they were completely different in personality.

Before entering this world, Liu Zheng was an avid reader and dreamed of becoming a writer. However, the laptop brought to this world had long since been destroyed.

Considering that he may never leave this world and return to his original world, his dream of becoming a writer may never be achieved. Yet his love for literature still motivates Liu Zheng to take notes of his observations and experiences within this world. He hoped to return to his original world someday and publish all of these, exposing this seemingly absurd but genuinely existing world.

Aside from this hobby, Liu Zheng was very lively and got along well with Zhang Zhongmou. They often joked around together. However, he rarely spoke with Su Yu. One reason is that Su Yu was often busy and they had few opportunities for interaction. Another is that despite Su Yu’s approachability, his status and strength were intimidating. Zhang Zhongmou could be joked around with, but Liu Zheng would feel nervous at the prospect of doing the same with Su Yu, resulting in limited conversation between them.

However, his admiration for Su Yu was genuine. He recognized that their present survival and accomplishments were all due to Su Yu’s efforts. This can be seen from his writings.

In his record of their adventures, he described Su Yu with the utmost praise and admiration. In his writing, Su Yu was a hero.

As for Cao Xiaoyu, in Liu Zheng’s records, he was a silent, or one might say, a somewhat reticent person.

Prior to his arrival in this world, Cao Xiaoyu worked as an underground fighter and a coach. He later served as a bodyguard for the An family. With his perfect physique like that of a fitness trainer and mastery in many forms of combat, wrestling, and martial arts, he remained single despite being nearly thirty. However, despite his silent demeanor and intimidating appearance, he was actually quite a welcoming guy.

Liu Zheng, who spent the most time with him, understood that Cao Xiaoyu was really a good-natured guy, who loved small animals, and was a stand-up fellow. It was just that his external toughness due to his training in combat sports made him appear indifferent and cold. This consequently resulted in very few people considering him approachable.

The truth is, Cao Xiaoyu had a softer side and was rather lonely at heart. He had almost no friends due to the misconceptions about his outward demeanor.

Cao Xiaoyu was somewhat different from Liu Zheng. While Liu Zheng had his own aspirations and hobbies even after falling into this world and dreamt of becoming a writer, recording every detail in this world, and leaving this valuable wealth to future generations.

Cao Xiaoyu, on the other hand, was alone in the original world and is still alone in this one. His initial goal, to protect An Xiaoyang, was shattered with the latter’s death. Cao Xiaoyu suddenly found that he felt utterly alone in this world. He did not have a sense of direction or purpose in living. He was living merely for the sake of living.

He never thought about becoming better, or protecting anyone. He never thought about becoming a hero or a savior. He also never thought about finding a way to return to the original world.

For him, where he is or in which world he exists doesn’t really make much of a difference.

He only went out to train and enhance his strength because everyone else did; he simply followed. Despite this attitude, he invariably managed to rise to the rank of a Level Five Black Iron Warrior, without actively seeking out challenges.

Everyone else looked at him with envy because Cao Xiaoyu was innately talented.

Cao Xiaoyu’s abilities, mutated and evolved, were quite simple. Even after ascending to the fifth-level realm, he only had three skills: "Shield," "Weaken," and "Assault."

The "Shield" ability, which activates when Cao Xiaoyu’s hands touch his opponent, can nullify all of the opponent’s evolved abilities. This turns the opponent from a Black Iron Warrior back into a simple human. However, this ability has a limitation: it requires direct physical contact to work and, once activated, it can’t distinguish friend from foe and reduces everyone to ordinary human strength levels.

As for the "Weaken" ability, it is a wide-ranging effect. Once activated, anyone in close proximity to him will find their abilities severely attenuated, the extent and range of which varies depending on his own level and the level of those around him.

The "Assault" skill is his only close-quarter attack technique.

The power of Cao Xiaoyu’s abilities allows him to dominate stronger opponents. When he was still Zero-Level, he was able to kill a fourth-level monster. And despite not deliberately honing his prowess, his innate talent allowed him to rise to become a Level Five Warrior as quickly as anyone else. If Cao Xiaoyu’s character were more like Su Yu or Xu Ruyun, who constantly strive to grow stronger, others even suspect that with his terrifying special abilities, his achievements would not be much inferior to those of Su Yu.

Regrettably, his passive nature severely restricts his development.

Even now, in this dangerous situation, he appears calm and unhurried, not taking the initiative to attack the Yalasa Monster.

It was not until Liu Zheng was in peril that Cao Xiaoyu, who had been standing by his side the whole time, finally moved. His fighting techniques, honed over twenty years, were not learned in vain. With a quick grab, he managed to hold the right claw of the Seventh-Level Yalasa Monster.

The Yalasa Monster, underestimating the physically robust man before it, tried to plunge its right claw into Cao Xiaoyu’s chest.

However, the moment Cao Xiaoyu grabbed it, the monster suddenly felt its strength drain away, leaving it helpless.

Caught by surprise, before the monster could comprehend what was happening, Cao Xiaoyu let out a low growl and made an aggressive move. With a twist and snap of his arms, he broke the monstrous creature’s right forearm. Taking a page from martial arts, he used a throat lock, gripping the monster’s throat with his slightly spread fingers. His body exerted a burst of strength, and a crunching sound came from the creature’s throat.

Activating the "Shield" ability, all the powers conferred by mutation were lost to Cao Xiaoyu and this Seventh-Level Monster. Despite only relying on his human physical strength, his tensed muscles demonstrated a terrifying power comparable to a mutant from Zero-Level.

Accompanied by a crunch sound, the neck of the creature was broken by Cao Xiaoyu. With eyes widened in disbelief, the monster stared at Cao Xiaoyu before it crashed to the ground.

Until its death, it could hardly believe that it was killed by a human two levels below it.

Breaking the neck of the Seventh-Level Monster, a crystal surged into Cao Xiaoyu’s body. He picked up the monster’s body and violently threw it away.

With the monster’s death, the "Shield" ability retreated, and Cao Xiaoyu regained his powerful strength of a Level Five Black Iron Warrior. This throw immediately launched the body, sending it crashing into another monster rushing at him. He then stepped back to inspect the condition of the fallen Liu Zheng.

Liu Zheng’s hands were torn and shattered, causing him tremendous pain. Fortunately, being a Level Five Black Iron Warrior, his Gasification Mysterious Power was continuously working its magic, healing his hands. It was believed that his hands would be healed within half an hour. (To be continued. For more Chapters, please visit www.qidian.com. Support the author and read legally!)
