Chapter 447: Chapter 350: Driven Out of Freedom Village (3rd Update)

Su Yu’s eyebrows furrowed, he suddenly said, "Bring that Xia Yan to me, he must know." He suddenly remembered that it was Xia Yan who had informed him of this news, he must know something.

Xia Yan was quickly dragged out from among the hundreds of villagers. His face pale, he immediately knelt down in front of Su Yu and cried out, "Sir...please spare me...I...I didn’t collude with Chen Xuanbai...I didn’t do anything bad... Please don’t kill me..."

Su Yu looked at him briefly and said: "Where are Birong and the others?"

He didn’t want to waste time talking to Xia Yan, who was startled for a moment, then hurriedly nodded and said, "I know, I know. I’ll take you there right now."

Su Yu nodded slightly. Under Xia Yan’s lead, they finally found Zhou Birong and the others, unconscious, in the basement of one of the buildings.

"Chen Xuanbai wasn’t sure whether you would care about their lives, but feared they might interfere at a crucial moment, so he detained them here. He then had me quietly inform you, in hopes of making you more cautious. You are the only one Chen Xuanbai wanted to deal with, so he didn’t kill them." Xia Yan rambled on as if he was reporting his accomplishments. Zhang Zhongmou, losing his patience, asked, "What about the others?"

In this basement, they only found Zhou Birong, Fang Jiong, Kou Xiaowei, Cao Xiaoyu, and Liu Zheng. But Shangguan Wan and An Xiaoyang were nowhere to be found.

Xia Yan paused and said, "Only they were here." He was utterly confused, unable to figure out who else could be missing.

By this point, Su Yu had awakened Zhou Birong and the others one by one. Upon seeing Su Yu, Zhou Birong could not help but cry out, "Su Yu—" Her eyes immediately turned red.

For this past month, she had helplessly watched the changes in Freedom Village, powerless to intervene. Seeing Su Yu now, even the usually unflappable Zhou Birong could not hold back her outburst.

Su Yu smiled gently and lightly patted the back of her hand, signaling to her that she was safe now and everything was over.

On the other hand, Zhang Zhongmou was scolding Xia Yan angrily, "I am asking about Shangguan Wan! Where is she?"

Stunned, Xia Yan finally said, "Shangguan Wan? She...she died in an operation half a month ago."

Zhang Zhongmou was struck dumb, then stood there, stunned.

Su Yu also paused, then looked at Xia Yan and asked, "What exactly happened?"

Before Xia Yan could answer, Zhou Birong let out a sigh, "That was an operation half a month ago to capture a Horned Demon Horse in the Demon Beast Mountain Range. We didn’t expect to encounter a large swarm of terrifying creatures... Shangguan Wan and An Xiaoyang were both killed in that operation."

Zhang Zhongmou stood there still, stuttering after a while, "Shang...Shangguan Wan...is dead?" He staggered, almost collapsing. Su Yu hurried to support him, only then realizing that his old partner’s face had turned as pale as paper.

Only then did Su Yu realize how deep Zhang Zhongmou’s feelings for Shangguan Wan were.

At this moment, Ma Ziye finally understood why Fang Jiong had acted so strangely when Zhang Zhongmou asked about Shangguan Wan. The big-hearted chef must have realized Zhang Zhongmou’s deep feelings for Shangguan Wan, and given the urgent circumstances at that moment, had purposely concealed the truth, saying only that Shangguan Wan was fine.

Su Yu had no idea how to comfort him, but simply patted Zhang Zhongmou’s shoulder, then left.

As for the deaths of Shangguan Wan and An Xiaoyang, Su Yu did not feel it profoundly, but rather a sense of loss. However, in this cruel world, countless lives are lost every day. He could not possibly grieve for every death.

Upon exiting, in Freedom Village’s square under the bright sun, hundreds of people were still gathered. Seeing Meng Ting sat on the ground, sobbing quietly after seemingly having cried herself to exhaustion, Meng Jun stayed by her side to prevent any accidents.

However, Ada seemed to have appeared out of nowhere and was sitting on Chen Xuanbai’s corpse; she was examining a small booklet in her paw. Doudou, the greyhound, was standing guard by her side, like a loyal guardian protecting Ada.

After this battle, Chen Xuanbai’s faction had utterly failed. Su Yu regained absolute control over Freedom Village. However, he didn’t feel even a shred of excitement.

Looking at Xu Ruyun, who was tied up, and at Meng Ting, sitting off to the side, Su Yu shook his head. He knew this situation couldn’t continue--it was time something needed to be done.

Finally, Su Yu walked to Meng Ting and the others and stopped.

Upon seeing Su Yu, Meng Jun finally gathered his courage and shouted, "Su Yu, what do you want? It’s easy to kill us, just give the nod. You’ve already won completely. Are you planning to exterminate us all? The lady... the lady doesn’t have any power left."

His voice was loud, but everyone could see that he was trying to put on a brave face.

Before Su Yu could respond, Ada, who was reading the booklet, suddenly lifted her head and said, "Hindsight is always twenty-twenty."

Meng Jun could’t help but lower his head. Everyone could see the regret in his eyes. He knew he and the others had made the wrong choice, but no matter how regretful they felt, it was too late to turn back.

Su Yu calmly said, "Don’t worry, I have no intention of killing you all."

Meng Jun was taken aback by Su Yu’s words.

Off to the side, Meng Ting lifted her head. Her eyes were filled with tears as she looked at Su Yu. Her face was full of an indescribable despair. She wanted to speak, but nothing came out.
