Chapter 417: Chapter 327: The Passage of Life

Yet this tranquility didn’t last long. Su Yu, barely conscious in pseudo-death spectator state faintly heard rumbling noise in the sky. Many humans appeared again, searching the vicinity. Su Yu even felt the sensation of being pierced by a knife while in this near-death state. He was soon dismissed by they humans who assumed he was already dead.

After struggling for a while, Su Yu faintly felt the disappointing departure of these mysterious nameless visitors. Eventually, he lost consciousness, unsure if he even had a chance to regain awareness, an insuppressible air of sadness secretly welled up within him.

Was his life about to come to an end?

Su Yu lost consciousness as he wallowed in a trace of sadness and endless regret. After what felt like either a momentary flash, or an eternally long year, he regained a bit of consciousness and opened his eyes, only to realize that he was trapped within a desolate space of darkness.

In this dark space lay a gigantic, blood-drenched heart, the veins on it pumping vigorously. The veins carried a dark fluid, playing host to an eerie swirling black fog that formed the outline of a terrifying demonic face.

Su Yu was hit with an unknown wave of dread, he tried to summon Ada, but to his shock, Ada was unresponsive. He attempted to summon the Golden Claw, only to realize that he didn’t have a body, he was just pure consciousness residing within this ghastly dark space.

"Where am I... I need to get out... I must get out..." Su Yu couldn’t help but scream. He suddenly awoke with a jolt, and in front of him, a face had appeared.

"Su Yu--" It was a face showing a whirlwind of joy, it was none other than Zhang Zhongmou’s.

Su Yu was somewhat bewildered. He tried to move his body, only to find that he had no strength left. Barely managing to raise his eyes, he saw the surroundings were littered with trees, weeds, and numerous bodies. This was a dire apocalyptic scene. Zhang Zhongmou wore a jubilantly ecstatic expression, hurrying to keep Su silent and still.

Su Yu struggled to speak: "Wh...where’s...Ad..." As soon as he started speaking, he was shocked by his own hoarse and aged voice.

"You...you just rest for now." Then Su saw Ma Ziye’s face. But her face was blurred.

"What’s happening... My vision... is weakening?" Su Yu racked his brain, he felt his entire body become much sluggish, even his ’special power’ was flowing slowly, as if he couldn’t muster up strong power.

He felt like an extremely old body.

Suddenly, Su Yu was hit with realization. He lifted his hand and saw wrinkled, old flesh which was not his own, not his hand. This was... this was the hand that only belonged to a very old man.

In that moment, Su Yu was filled with fear. What... what had happened?

Then, he remembered that summoning the Demon Divine Beast required a sacrifice of his own life energy. Could it be...?

His heart turned cold and he dared not think any further. With Zhang Zhongmou’s help, Su Yu painstakingly sat up and rested against a nearby broken tree stump. Now, his surroundings revealed a horrifying and desolate sight.

There were bodies everywhere; bodies of forest creatures along with corpses of the Black and White Warriors, even some bodies from the Life Nest disrupted by destructive forces. Then Su noticed Zhang Zhongmou, Ma Ziye, and Ren Honglin, their countenance was also disheveled and tattered, a look of lingering fear written all across their faces.

The horrific incident in the final moment was truly shaking, leaving them with no power to resist. To have survived such catastrophe was truly a stroke of luck.

But where were Gu Lingshuang, Meng Bo, or Lin Shi? Su Yu couldn’t find them anywhere.

"Where’s... where’s Ada..." Su Yu trembled as he put much effort into uttering the words. Ma Ziye looked at him with a facial expression that was both loving and sorrowful, as if looking at a lover she had been with for ten lifetimes.

"She’s here, she’s here, she’s fine." Zhang Zhongmou hurriedly brought something from the side. It was Ada, but a huge terrifying gash was across her body and she lay still, seemingly unconscious.

With Zhang Zhongmou’s help, Su Yu held the unconscious and severely wounded Ada in his arms, leaning back and sitting down.

Even though Category 5 Lifeforms couldn’t be easily harmed by regular forces, the Power of Rules from the Giant Gods and the King of Darkness evidently affected Ada as well.

Ada, in her current state, is very fragile. Her physical wounds could perhaps claim her life.

"Ad...da..." Su Yu exerted all his available strength to hold Ada close to his chest, mumbling to himself. Then, he succumbed to fatigue once more and slowly drifted back into unconsciousness.

Zhang Zhongmou, Ma Ziye, and Ren Honglin didn’t say a word, but vigilantly kept watch over Su Yu silently. The sight of his current state left a feeling of such heaviness in their hearts that they were almost unable to speak.

The Su Yu before their very eyes, was nothing like the one they had known. Only the contours of his face bore some resemblance to his once youthful features.

Hair as white as snow, face wrinkled like tree bark, eyes dull, and eyelids withered - he was a thoroughly weathered old man. This... was the current Su Yu. His vital energy was nearly entirely drained. As a man on the cusp of what was known as "terminal frailty of body and spirit", his life now resembled a faintly burning candle in the wind, always teetering on the brink of extinction.

Ma Ziye bit her lip, her body occasionally spasming in pain. As she witnessed Su Yu’s current state, she wished she could take his place. However, she felt utterly helpless, as there was nothing she could do to assist him.

"Damn it... Damn it... Su Yu, how could you end up like this?" Zhang Zhongmou growled under his breath. Like Ma Ziye, he too felt utterly powerless. All they could do was stay by Su Yu’s side, helpless and without any feasible solutions.

Now, the forest was beginning to regain its tranquility. Apart from the wreckage and bodies scattered around, not a single sound could be heard, not even the previous roars of the forest beasts.

Zhang Zhongmou, Ma Ziye, and Ren Honglin had all sustained injuries to varying degrees. Their desperate struggle in the "Life Nest", and the terrifying force that flung them like a fountain into various unknown locations, had unexpectedly spared them from an inevitable peril. Upon regaining consciousness, they all managed to find each other and Su Yu, only to find him in a state of advanced aging. At first, they could hardly believe the sight before their eyes and it took them a while to accept this reality.

Though they were not fools - just by looking at Su Yu, they could guess what had led to his current state. Yet, knowing the cause provided them with no means to alleviate it. Even though they continuously injected Su Yu and Ada with the gasification mysterious power, the outcome was fruitless. Before this predicament, they were entirely at a loss.

As dusk approached, Ada, who had been enfolded in Su Yu’s arms, began to stir, and finally regained consciousness. But apart from a faint heartbeat, there were barely any signs of life left in Su Yu. Ma Ziye gazed intently at him, frozen in her spot as if petrified.

Zhang Zhongmou, frantic about Su Yu and worried sick for Ma Ziye, was at a loss as to what to do. Suddenly, he noticed some movement from Ada and immediately yelled out, "Ada woke up! Ada, wake up, Ada—"

At this point, they were utterly helpless, unsure of what to do. They stayed there, and when they noticed that Ada was awake, Zhang Zhongmou immediately began to yell.

Zhang Zhongmou’s yelling brought Ma Ziye out of her trance, finally restoring a glimmer of life in her eyes. Over and over, Zhang Zhongmou yelled, "Ada! Su Yu... it seems like Su Yu’s not breathing. What do we do, Ada? You have to think of something—"

Ada slowly opened her eyes, her gleaming black pupils were equally dull. The injuries she sustained were severe, especially considering her symbiotic relationship with Su Yu, whose vitality had almost completely diminished. Ada’s condition was equally critical.

"Quick... look... black and white... corpse..." Ada struggled to stay conscious, her voice weak and interrupted.

Zhang Zhongmou hurriedly asked, "Ada, speak louder. What black and white corpse?"

Ma Ziye and Ren Honglin quickly came running over, intensely staring at Ada. At that instant, Ada was their only hope.

"Corpse...Time...Coin...For...Su...Yu..." Ada managed to utter these few words before rolling her eyes and fainting once more.

Zhang Zhongsu blinked dumbly and said, "Time Coin? What does that mean? We don’t have that."

Ma Ziye suddenly jumped up and exclaimed, "I understand now! Ada’s telling us to find Time Coins on these corpses. Yes, Time Coins can restore vitality! As long as we can find Time Coins, Su Yu can be saved. Let’s go, everyone. Let’s find the Time Coins."

She was quicker on the uptake than Zhang Zhongmou and finally understood what Ada was saying.

"Let’s look for the bodies of Black and White Warriors. They should at least have a few Time Coins. Hurry!" Ma Ziye yelled as she charged off.

Zhang Zhongmou regained his senses, and after exchanging a glance with Ren Honglin, he said, "Let’s go—" They quickly followed Ma Ziye, beginning their search among the corpses littering the area. (To be continued. For more, please visit www.qidian.com!)
