Chapter 393: Chapter 309: Changes in the Life Nest (4th Update)

"Drag them out, sever their lower bodies, graft them onto insectile bodies and throw them into the ’Insect-human World’, let them fend for themselves."

Anoka calmly issued the order, and the five people respectfully responded, "Yes." They then proceeded to drag the two servant girls on the floor behind them. Upon hearing their fate in the ’Insect-human World’, the women became fearful and started to scream and struggle wildly. However, no matter how much they struggled, they couldn’t escape. They cried out, desperate for mercy from Anoka. Seeing it was in vain, they began to plea, "Have mercy, City Lord! Have mercy!"

The young girl was obviously more compassionate. Despite being blind, she heard everything, including the desperate cries of the women who had treated her kindly. She grew soft-hearted and said, "Anoka, spare them, please. They’ve always been good to me."

Holding her, Anoka gently replied, "City Lord, to manage a city as large as this, we need to implement some strict measures to keep the people below in check. Being too kind doesn’t work, remember? They made a mistake, and thus they should receive the appropriate punishment."

"Okay, I understand, I’ll do as Anoka says," the little girl responded, hugging his neck. A smile crept onto her adorable face.

The two servant girls dragged behind let out harrowing screams. Clearly, they had been mutilated. They could no longer live as "humans" in this City of Steel, but were to become lowly insect-humans living in a world filled with other insect-humans. Once their insect bodies matured, they would be roasted golden-brown and served as delicacies to the city’s higher-ups or used as fertilizers to nurture unusual plants and fruits.

"Lord Anoka, according to this record, the King of Darkness will descend in five days."

Behind Anoka and the blind girl, a short, less than one meter tall old man with white hair and a face as wrinkled as ancient pine bark had silently appeared. His left eye bulged out and constantly emitted a ’zzzz’ sound – the sound of the microchip within turning. It was clearly a prosthetic eye.

"Five days later? City Lord... in five days, you’ll be able to see," A gentle expression appeared on Anoka’s face, causing the little girl to exclaim excitedly, "Anoka, in five days, will I really be able to see? To see this... this world that I have never been able to grasp before? Can I see the beautiful flowers they talk about... see the endless blue sea and sky?"

"Yes, City Lord... you can see everything," Anoka reassured her with a smile.

"And... and the one I want to see most, Anoka." The little girl stretched out her small hands to touch Anoka’s face, whispering, "I really want to know what Anoka looks like."

Anoka smiled gently, "In five days, City Lord, you will be able to see everything you wish to, including Anoka." He paused slightly, then said, "Gufu, according to your estimations, wouldn’t it take at least half a month for the formation? Why would it be early?"

The short, elderly Gufu, his face alight with excitement, said, "It’s inexplicable, but I think it’s related to the message Si Li relayed. Those who wanted to destroy the Life Nest did us a great favor. If they destroy it, it would sever the chance for the King of Darkness to return to this world. This probably sparked a strong backlash, hence his early descent."

"So, do we have to thank those destructive pests? I just sent Jiaxuan and the rest to eliminate them. Should I recall them?" Anoka knitted his brow in thought.

"No, let Jiaxuan and the others go. They won’t affect the imminent descent of the King of Darkness. Let’s take it as an appetizer before the main course, don’t you agree, Anoka?" Gufu, giggling with a strange sound, took a handful of wriggling, flesh-colored worms from a bulging bag hanging from his waist. He threw them into his mouth, emanating crunching sounds as their juices leaked from his lips. He quickly licked it clean, not wanting to waste a drop.

"What do you say, Anoka? Want some?" As he spoke, Gufu held out a few more to Anoka.

Anoka shook his head hastily and took a step back, his brow furrowed. "Gufu, do we need to depart now?"

"No hurry, no hurry," Gufu shook his head. "We’ve still got five days. What we need to be wary of is the interference of others."

Anoka pondered for a moment, then stood up. The little girl remained cradled on his shoulder, sitting quietly, much like Ada, a Category 5 Lifeform, would do with its Master of Companion. She clung to Anoka and seemed at ease.

"We’ll leave in three days. In the meantime, we need to prepare and misdirect people’s attention."

Gufu laughed. "Understood, I’ll get ready right away."

Anoka slightly nodded, revealing a mysterious smile on his face.

The downpour in the sky was relentless, the water on the ground already reached everyone’s knees. After a grueling journey of over five hours, Su Yu and his party of fifteen people finally reached their destination amid the torrential rain.

The location of the third Life Nest appeared to be a residential area. A few tall buildings were visible from a distance. It was obvious that these buildings, part of a residential community, collapsed and fell into this world due to the "sinkhole" incident. No one knew how much time had passed, but from a distance, the scene was dominated by dense forests and climbing plants. Vines and leaves could be seen covering the walls of these buildings, and occasionally, an assortment of colorful blossoms could be seen.

The group of fifteen people had been soaked in the rain for over five hours. They were thoroughly drenched from the inside out. Thankfully, they were Black Iron Warriors with special powers. If they were ordinary people, they would have collapsed by now due to the heavy rain.

Wiping the rain off his face and taking several deep breaths, Qin Jiagui said, "Looking at the sky... I’m afraid it’s going to get dark soon. We...we need to hurry up. Thankfully, it seems like there aren’t any traps around here."

Zhang Zhongmou, sheltering his head and face with a leaf that was as big as a fan, said while shielding himself with his hand, "I think these guys are too confident... they can’t even anticipate."

Ma Ziye said, "This heavy rain affects both us and them in the same way. Mr. Lin, are you familiar with the inside?"

Lin Shi shook his head, "I know where these five Life Nests are, but I’m not familiar with the situation inside."

Qin Jiagui nodded and said, "Let’s go in, everyone be careful."

Su Yu deployed the "Radar Wave" again. After sensing no life presence around, he quietly pushed through the dense branches in front of him and dashed out, hunched down have.

Everyone slowed down and continuously wiped their faces and eyes that had been infiltrated by water. If they didn’t wipe for a moment, their vision would be blurred by the water in their eyes. The heavy rain really affected their sight and hearing.

The group of fifteen people, braving the heavy rain, secretly approached these buildings. Su Yu quietly asked Ada about the power of the rules here, and he was told that the power of the rules was still cut off, which slightly relieved Su Yu.

It was deadly silent inside the buildings. When they circumnavigated the building in front of them, they could see a huge pit in the open area between the buildings. The pit was filled with piles of human corpses. One side of the pit was equipped with a bizarre machine looking like a tumbler, which was connected by numerous wires to a building behind it.

At this moment, the heavy rain was pouring down, but when it reached the pit, it was forced away. The pit was currently emitting thick black smoke. The heavy smoke rose up, forcing the rainwater away, creating an eerie sight.

They finally saw the third Life Nest, but what was surprising was that there was an eerie quietness around the Life Nest. Where were the Black and White Warriors who were supposed to guard the "Life Nest"?

Su Yu released the "Radar Wave" again to scan the surroundings, but there were no traces of life at all. This place where the third Life Nest located had become a ghost town by the time they arrived. Had the Black and White Warriors mysteriously disappeared?

Su Yu and the others exchanged bewildered glances, feeling a sense of eeriness creeping into their hearts.

Suddenly, Qin Jiagui exclaimed, "Look—"

Everyone cast their alarmed gazes in the direction he was pointing. Qin Jiagui stared at the pile of bodies above the pit where the "Life Nest" was, his face filled with shock. The others rubbed their eyes to look more carefully and then noticed that the pile of corpses at the top of the "Life Nest" were all dressed in half-black and half-white clothes. Those were undoubtedly the bodies of the Black and White Warriors.

"How could this happen?" After seeing clearly, everyone felt an inexplicable sense of eeriness.(To be continued, if you want to know what happened next, please visit www.qidian.com, with more Chapters, support the author, support legitimate reading!)
