Chapter 391: Chapter 308: City of Steel (Third Update)
When Su Yu woke up, he reached out and touched Ada, who had fallen asleep in his arms the night before. Ada sprang up immediately, stretching her small claws and yawning lazily. From the looks of it, she was considerably more lively than before.
With a smile, Su Yu reached out to pick her up and said, "Ada, are you feeling better now?"
"Much better, I was so tired yesterday." While she was talking, she jumped up onto Su Yu’s shoulder and lay down comfortably.
With Ada in tow, Su Yu went to the factory door only to see the bleak, white expanse outside. The torrential rain was still going strong and the water outside was at least knee-deep, giving the impression of a vast flowing river.
Su Yu frowned and said, "The rain doesn’t look like it’ll be stopping any time soon."
Ada added, "This is the sky crying... In simple terms, it’s the weather being affected by certain forces. The sky crying...this is an omen that evil is about to be born. Su Yu, we need to act fast, destroy the remaining three Life Nests and leave this place as soon as possible. I think... the forest-only stands to become more and more terrifying and strange... I can’t quite understand it, why aren’t those guys... interfering? Will this surely not disrupt the equilibrium of the forest... or... do they simply not care about the ’Heavenly Pit Forest’?"
Ada touched her chin and mused while Su Yu suddenly asked, "There are other ’Heavenly Pit Forests’?"
Ada nodded, "Yes... there are many ’Heavenly Pit Forests’ like this one, surrounded by the ’River of Oblivion’ that serves as the activity ground for the newcomers. I guess, maybe this is the reason why those individuals aren’t paying attention to this."
"You’re referring to the guardian of the Black Iron World?" Su Yu asked, thinking of Beth Finley, the woman in the robe of light who had appeared in the temple and who had been shrouded in a column of light.
"Ha-ha, her?" Ada shook her head, "I don’t think she would bother with something like this. At least for now... it hasn’t reached a point where she needs to be alarmed."
"Then who were you referring to...?"
"The Ten Great Cities," Ada pondered for a moment before shaking her head, "I’ve lost much of my memory, and can’t say for sure. Times have changed, Su Yu. Don’t ask too much. It is definitely right for us to leave this increasingly eerie forest as soon as possible. We should leave now." She laid back down and fell silent.
"Alright." Su Yu gently stroked Ada, and then turned around and said, "Everyone, we depart immediately to destroy the third Life Nest. Lin Shi, you should know which Life Nest is the closest from here. We can’t waste any more time."
Li Dong frowned, "But the rain is pouring so heavily outside..."
The Qin Clan said, "The rain is not going anywhere anytime soon. As long as we can see our surroundings clearly, the rain doesn’t mean much."
Su Yu turned to Lin Shi and said, "Let’s go."
Lin Shi nodded, got up with Meng Bo, Gu Lingshuang, Ren Hongshuang, and the others. The rest of the party also rose, and upon looking at the heavy rain outside, Su Yu went out without any hesitation. He stood in the rain, turned around, and said, "Let’s go!"
Looking at Su Yu, Lin Shi did not hesitate and darted out like an arrow. His face was instantly hit by the rain, causing his eyes to sting.
He quickly rubbed his eyes and covered them with his hands. Scanning the area to get his bearings, he soon shouted, "Everyone, follow me!" and started running through the knee-deep muddy water.
Su Yu followed holding Ada, only saying, "Everyone, keep up," before running after Lin Shi.
Qin Jiagui shouted loudly, "This rain is too heavy, our vision is severely hampered, everyone be careful not to lose sight of the person in front of you." As he was talking, he felt rainwater pouring into his mouth. He spat it out and continued to follow.
The surroundings were completely white, fifteen of them braved the heavy rain, led by Lin Shi, rushing towards the direction of the third Life Nest.
From behind, Qin Jiagui shouted again, "Mr. Lin, slow down! Our vision is seriously impaired. Going too fast could cause us to get separated."
Su Yu grunted in agreement, saying, "Lin Shi, slow down."
Wiping the water off his face, Lin Shi replied and slowed down.
Once they left the factory, all they could see was a white expanse. Amidst the raging rain, the land was covered with towering trees, thick vines, human-sized plants, and shrubs. Trudging through the mud and water in this dense forest made them slow, their speed a fraction of what they would have achieved in normal conditions.
Gasping, Lin Shi said in frustration, "This is troublesome. What usually would have taken less than an hour to reach, now with this rain, it seems like it will take us at least four to five hours to get to the third Life Nest." As he talked, he wiped the rain off his face in order to prevent the water from blurring his vision.
Su Yu followed him, occasionally releasing "radar waves" to monitor their surroundings for any potential threats. Their travel speed through the forest was certainly significantly slower due to the rain, but what was even more terrifying was the potential for traps and ambushes. Hence, Su Yu continuously released "radar waves" as a precautionary measure.
