Chapter 368: Chapter 291: Midnight Scream (First update, asking for monthly tickets)
When we first entered the forest, Ada was in quite bad shape, on the verge of breaking through. But over the past few days, he had significantly improved. According to Ada, his attempt to break through had failed; it seemed that the number of people in the pact was still insufficient. If it had reached the maximum number of two hundred, then perhaps the growth would truly have reached stage five.
As soon as Su Yu finished speaking, he leapt out, leading the group back along the path they had previously cleared through the short mountain. The plants they had uprooted during their passage hadn’t grown back completely, and the path was still visible. However, the plants in this place grew at an incredible rate; he suspected that before long, the path they had made would be completely overgrown.
The group then followed the same path back at an even greater speed.
Over the past few days, Ruan Minghong and Murong Dingyuan had become quite familiar with the group. Pointing to a spot, Su Yun grinned and said, "Look, right here. This is where we first met Fang Jiong and Xiao Wei. At the time, Fang Jiong was fighting a guy from the ’White Tiger’."
Having said that, she realized that Ruan Minghong and Murong Dingyuan likely had no idea who Fang Jiong and Xiao Wei were.
Seeing the confused looks on their faces, Ma Ziye gently explained, "Fang Jiong is the tall chef. In Freedom Village, he’s the tallest."
Understanding dawned on the faces of Ruan Minghong and Murong Dingyuan.
"Before long, we should reach the ’hospital’. The fog monster in the hospital back then was truly horrifying." Zhao Shichang lamented, then swung his arm in a sign of triumph, "If I were to face it now, I could perhaps slay the fog monster on my own. But back then, I would have died there had it not been for Su Yu."
The group advanced at a breakneck pace. Soon, they arrived at the hospital - the place where they had once encountered the terrifying fog monster. They didn’t pause, moved through the hospital, and journeyed onward. By dusk, they had arrived at a large canyon.
The group knew the canyon well. On the day they arrived, they had watched a bus fall into it from the sky. Xu Ruyun, Liu Zheng, and others had been on that bus. However, this time, this group had stayed in ’Freedom Village’ and not accompanied them.
Seeing the canyon meant the group was getting close to the school.
"It’s so familiar... This time, we are truly close to our school." Qin Jiagui sighed. The group slowed down, entering the canyon. Before long, they spotted the bus that had crashed and was almost buried in the ground.
The rate of plant growth in this world was clearly much faster than in the world they knew. It had only been a month since the bus had fallen into this world, but it was already covered in greenery, giving the impression that it had been there for many years.
"Let’s stay here tonight. It’s getting dark. After half a day’s journey tomorrow, I think we’ll be able to see the school." Qin Jiagui suggested, looking at the setting sun.
"Alright, let’s rest here for the night." Zhang Zhongmou set his backpack down, clearly exhausted from the day’s relentless pace.
Su Yu suddenly asked, "Does anyone know what day we are on since we have entered this world?"
Qin Jiagui thought for a moment and then said, "It should be the 37th day. We’ve been here for more than a month."
Su Yu nodded and said, "That’s fine... Thirty days or so... Without the companionship of Class-5 Organisms, it’s as if we’ve lived over thirty years in this world. Still, it’s not too late. If we had waited another ten days or so... maybe..."
Everyone took a sharp breath. They were reminded of the extreme passage of time in this world. Thirty-seven days equated to thirty-seven years. So, the students in the school who hadn’t formed a pact with any organism... perhaps their vitality was now equivalent to that of a fifty or sixty year old? As for the middle-aged and old school leaders and teachers, they most likely...
The group looked at each other, falling silent. After a while, Zhang Zhongmou said with a forced laugh, "Don’t look so grim, guys. It’s been a month. Who knows how everyone’s doing? Maybe they were lucky enough to meet Class-5 Organisms. They could be doing better than us. Who knows?"
Ma Ziye agreed, commenting, "Yes, we’ll find out after returning to the school tomorrow. There’s no use in overthinking it now."
That night, they slept in the large canyon. In the middle of the night, Su Yu suddenly woke up, disturbed by horrific screams echoing from the distance.
Other than him, everyone else hadn’t heard anything, leaving Ruan Minghong, who was on night duty, slightly startled. "Master?" she asked.
Shaking his head at her, Su Yu said, "I think I heard a sound from over there...and it...sounds vaguely familiar..." Frowning slightly, he finally stood up and said, "Wait here for me, I’m going to check it out, I’ll be right back." Feeling an inexplicable unease, he decided to go see for himself.
Ruan Minghong glanced around at the dark surroundings and wanted to dissuade him, but considering Su Yu’s skills, it was unlikely he would encounter any danger in the forest, so she nodded.
Su Yu could still remember the direction the sound had come from. Only he, with his formidable climbing skills, dared to scale the hundred-meter vertical cliff on the left-hand side of the Grand Canyon.
With the familiarity of that scream in his mind, he felt like he had heard it somewhere but could not remember. Su Yu hesitated, using a few steps as a run up, before leaping towards the cliff. Soon, he was dozens of meters up. His right hand shone brightly, and with a "boom", he embedded it into the rock and used this force to climb further up. Using both hands and feet, he darted up like an agile monkey and within a blink of an eye, had ascended several dozen meters.
Looking up from below, Ruan Minghong saw Su Yu’s figure hanging dozens of meters high in the air on the cliff and could not help but feel a tremor in her heart. If it were her, she definitely wouldn’t dare to climb like that. Master Su Yu’s courage truly was astonishing. In this respect, he was simply not inferior to Boss Wang Di.
The drowsy Ada, who was lying on Su Yu’s shoulder, asked sleepily, "Su Yu, what are we doing? Why are we climbing up here?"
"I heard an arguably familiar voice. Even though there was only one, I feel somewhat uneasy, and I want to go see what’s going on." As Su Yu replied, he continued to climb, quickly reaching seventy meters, then eighty meters. Finally, his golden claw landed with a heavy blow that caused a large amount of shattered rock to fall. Launching into the air, Su Yu managed to land sturdily on top of the hundred-meter-high cliff.
On top of this cliff, there was still a vast expanse of forest. Su Yu ran forward according to the general direction he remembered at the same time as he scanned the surroundings with his eyes. Then he said to Ada, "Be smart, help me look around. It should be around here. Check if there’s anything unusual."
"Okay." Ada nodded, sniffing the air and quickly said, "I got it, over there. There’s a heavy smell of blood." He pointed with his small paw.
Su Yu quickly ran over and arrived at a spot where the plants around were trampled. Looking closer, he saw a large puddle of fresh blood. But aside from that, there was nothing else in sight.
"That scream, the fresh blood on the ground... Could it be that someone got hurt and ran away? Why does that voice sound so familiar though..." Su Yu wondered aloud, just as Ada suddenly said, "Following this direction, I can smell a strong scent of blood. Look, the blood on the ground."
Despite the darkness, with a little help from the moonlight, Su Yu quickly recognized the fresh blood on the ground and on fallen leaves, forming a long trail leading away.
"Obviously, someone got injured and fled in this direction. The blood has been dripping all the way. Judging by the blood, they shouldn’t be far away. Should we go and have a look?" Ada asked.
"Hmm," Su Yu, feeling uneasy due to the familiar scream, agreed with Ada and darted off in the indicated direction.
With a whoosh, Su Yu rushed off at full speed, activating his Sixth-order powers continuously. Trees flew past one after another until Su Yu saw two figures in the distance. They were running at a high speed through the forest. One of them seemed to be carrying another shadow on their shoulder, which took the form of a person.
Su Yu felt a sudden impulse and sped up. The continuous whooshing sounds drew the attention of the fleeing pair who turned to see Su Yu descending from the sky as if a flying general, landing solidly a few meters before them.
The arrival surprised the two men, who immediately stopped. They found the ferocity and agility that Su Yu had shown to be inconceivable, as they were not capable of such feats.
As Su Yu landed before them, he quickly noticed that the two figures were both young, probably in their early twenties. They were wearing identical half-black, half-white clothes. The one on the left was carrying a woman on his shoulder. The woman’s clothes were torn, making her look disheveled. Her face was hidden behind the man’s back, so Su Yu couldn’t make out who she was.
Recalling the scream he’d heard earlier that seemed eerily familiar, Su Yu quickly surmised that it must have been the woman being carried who had cried out. Who could she be though, and why did her voice sound so familiar?
Looking down, Su Yu noticed that the motionless woman was still bleeding heavily. Obviously, the blood on the ground below was hers. (To be continued...
