Chapter 197: Chapter 168: Kou Xiaowei’s Proposal
Su Yu was too overconfident and was unexpectedly thrown away by a newly promoted Zero-Level Black Iron Warrior. Surprised, he was nevertheless excited. He quickly stood behind the man, commanding Zhang Zhongmou and warning him not to hurt the man.
Looking at the man’s muscular build and his swift execution, Su Yu was convinced that he was a talent worth cultivating. He once again reached out his right hand towards the man’s face, this time, he was much more prepared.
This man growled in a low voice. He had calmed down from the initial shock and panic, and grappled with Su Yu’s arm, attempting to twist it around.
Su Yu let him grab his arm, then all of a sudden, a layer of black scales rose up, and he pulled forcefully in return, overpowering agility with pure strength. His left hand reached out, gently cutting down on the back of the man’s neck.
Su Yu was incredibly precise with his strike, managing to knock the man out without injuring him. His eyes rolled back in his head and he slumped to the ground.
Before they had acquired their special powers, even three Su Yus might not have been a match for this man. However, now their difference in power was stark; Su Yu was a Fourth Order power, and the man was only just a Zero-Level Black Iron Warrior.
After knocking the man out, Su Yu summoned his "Fifth-Class Lifeform" with his right hand, and a black flame ignited, aiming for the man’s forehead. The black flame exploded upon contact and disappeared into thin air.
"What happened?" Su Yu frowned as the voice of the "Fifth-Class Lifeform" echoed in his mind: "Focus your evolutionary power and try again."
"Yes." Su Yu concentrated his Gasification Mysterious Power within his right arm, slowly feeling the life energy fluctuations of the "Fifth-Class Lifeform" and his own power converging. He extended a finger and pressed it against the man’s forehead, pushing the black flame slowly into it.
This time, the man did not resist the black flame. It disappeared into his forehead. At the same moment, the soothing voice of the Fifth-Class Lifeform sounded in his mind: "Sixteenth one, four more to go, nine and a half days left."
"I know, you don’t have to remind me." Su Yu responded ungratefully in his mind. He was curious about this "Fifth-Class Lifeform" and its eventual abilities once it hatched. It claimed to be a perfect life form, almost divine.
Just then, Kou Xiaowei unexpectedly pulled out a small device. It was small and shaped like a mini cell phone, its center emitting a flashing white light as if it was receiving a signal.
Kou Xiaowei’s expression changed, and she walked towards the window, looking out into the forest.
"What is that?" Zhang Zhongmou asked curiously. "Kou Xiaowei, I think we should stop calling you a kid and start calling you Doraemon."
She always had some strange items on her, from healing powder to necklaces, and now this miniaturized cellphone-like contraption.
Zhou Birong walked over to her side, a concerned expression on her face. "Xiaowei, what is it?"
"They’re coming." Kou Xiaowei’s voice was filled with fear.
"They?" Zhou Birong looked shocked. Qin Jiagui also quickly walked over, asking, "White Tiger?"
"Yes..." Kou Xiaowei nodded, "They’re here, and... they’re close."
Qin Jiagui walked to the window and looked out, but all he saw was the pitch-black forest and towering trees. There was no sign of anyone.
Zhang Zhongmou asked curiously, "Doraemon, how do you know they’re coming? Because of that thing in your hand?"
Kou Xiaowei explained quietly: "Whenever they use the ’White Tiger Token’ for communication, this device of mine can catch a similar signal... and... only if they’re within fifty meters... See this flashing light? That means they are already within fifty meters of us."
This statement left everyone feeling uneasy. Zhang Zhongmou asked, both nervous and excited, "Is that true? Where? How many are coming? Are they going to be more frightening than that Situ Wuqing woman?"
Kou Xiaowei hesitated before saying, "Only Level Five Black Iron Warriors are qualified to have ’White Tiger Tokens’. Situ Wuqing is an exception maybe because of her unique abilities... But now, anyone who appears... must be a Level Five Black Iron Warrior..."
Everyone inhaled sharply at this news. A Level Five Black Iron Warrior? Even Su Yu, who had just advanced to the Fourth Order, narrowly lost to Situ Wuqing who was also a Fourth Order Warrior. In their team, only Su Yu and Fang Jiong were Fourth Order, Ma Ziye was Third Order, and everyone else was Second, First or even Zero Order warriors.
"Usually... when they’re dispatched, they move in groups of three... I think it won’t be any different this time... there could even be more..." Kou Xiaowei said, looking at Su Yu, Fang Jiong, and the rest, with fear in her eyes.
At that moment, Su Yu, Fang Jiong, Qin Jiagui, Ma Ziye, and everyone else felt a chill run through their bodies, like they had suddenly fallen into an ice cave. Even the normally unperturbed Zhang Zhongmou opened his mouth wide in alarm, unable to utter a word.
At least three Level Five warriors? And they are already within fifty meters of them? Everyone’s scalp tingled in fear.
Although none of them had seen just how powerful a Fifth-Level warrior could be, they inferred from the strength of Fourth-Level warriors that a Fifth-Level Black Iron Warrior must be terrifyingly powerful.
"What do we do now?" Zhang Zhongmou asked. Zhou Birong’s face turned pale as she said, "Should we leave immediately?"
Qin Jiagui spoke gravely, "Xiao Wei, do you know their exact locations? Perhaps we can escape under the cover of night."
Kou Xiaowei shook her head, "No, they must be waiting for us below. No matter which direction we flee, we can’t escape their detection. We are trapped here. With so many of us, it’s impossible to break free."
Ma Ziye asked in surprise, "They’re waiting for us below? Why don’t they come straight up? If they can find us here, they should be able to find where we are now."
Kou Xiaowei answered, "It has to do with . . . some kind of a rule . . . it seems . . . Fifth-Level Black Iron Warriors can’t freely cause havoc in this forest. The current chaos in the building could easily involve them... I guess... they will only strike once we’ve descended."
Holding the tiny device that detected the enemies’ location, Kou Xiaowei had a hunch about their motive.
"So, it’s like that? Isn’t it safe then for us to stay here?" Zhang Zhongmou’s curiosity was piqued, but he also felt a sense of foreboding.
"No, as soon as the chaos in the building subsides... they will act... we don’t have much time," Kou Xiaowei shook her head.
The group exchanged glances. Li Dong abruptly said, "It’s you they’re after, right? It’s not really our issue . . ."
Before he finished his sentence, Su Yu interjected, "We were involved from the beginning, it’s too late to look out for our own safety. Let’s stop wasting time on these useless thoughts. The issue now is... how do we deal with... three or possibly more Fifth-Level Black Iron Warriors?"
Rendered speechless by Su Yu’s glare, Li Dong chose not to say anything further.
Qin Jiagui spoke in a serious tone, "I think the only solution is to seize the chaos in the building, kill the dozen or so Goblin Beasts, gather the panicked crowd and break free from here. If we blend in with the fleeing crowd under the cover of darkness, it would be easier for us to escape."
Qin Jiagui’s suggestion made everyone’s eyes light up. Yuan Niping quietly commented, "Not bad, this plan might work. It’s better than staying here and waiting to be killed."
Zhou Birong nodded in agreement, "There should be quite a lot of people in this building. This plan could work."
Kou Xiaowei, however, shook head, "They were able to find us in such a short time... I think... they must have a method or a tool to track us. Even if we escape in the chaos, it won’t work. We can’t put up a fight against Fifth-Level Black Iron Warriors."
To this point, everyone realized that Kou Xiaowei harbored many secrets and was not a simple girl. They had never imagined that she perceived situations so clearly, even overshadowing their own judgments. They all looked at her with peculiar expressions.
What experiences had this child lived through that allowed her to possess such expertise at such a tender age of eleven or twelve? She was able to analyze the situation clearly and deduce what others overlooked. Of course, the main reason she could express herself so well was the advantage she held: their world was mostly a mystery to everyone else, whereas she had much knowledge.
"Xiao Wei, what do you think we should do?" Su Yu started to value this little girl’s opinion more than before.
Seeing Su Yu seriously asking for a child’s opinion made Su Yun feel that the scene was somewhat comical, he glanced at Su Yu.
Kou Xiaowei lifted her head slightly, answered seriously, "I think... while we still have a little time... we should find the other four people who can form a symbiotic contract... that’s what we need to do now."
