Chapter 193: Chapter 165: Crisis Escape
Zhang Zhongmou found a metal tag on Situ Wuqing’s corpse and couldn’t help but hold the tag and say, "Huh? What is this thing?"
Zhao Shichang intervened, saying, "Isn’t it just a tag?"
"Damn it, bs, who doesn’t know it’s a tag, I’m asking what this thing is for?"
The others also gathered around to see, looking at the metal tag in Zhang Zhongmou’s hand, Kou Xiaowei standing next to Su Yu, hearing Zhang Zhongmou’s voice, turned her head and saw the small metal tag. Then, on her lovely jade-like face, suddenly all the color drained, she cried out in a loud voice, "It’s over!"
Kou Xiaowei’s reaction shocked everyone, while Kou Xiaowei had already stumbled and rushed over, snatching the metal tag from Zhang Zhongmou’s hand. On the black metal tag, there was a carved image of a tiger’s head, the image of the tiger had been painted white with something. The White Tiger image was lifelike and looked very majestic, but to Kou Xiaowei it was like seeing the warrant of the King of Hell herself, and she abruptly dropped it.
"Indeed...Indeed it is the ’White Tiger Token’. It’s over... it’s over... we’re all done for." Kou Xiaowei’s face turned pale and she constantly muttered to herself, her face full of terror and anxiety.
The others all looked at each other, Su Yu came over, reached out to touch her head, and said: "Xiao Wei, calm down, what’s the matter? What is this ’White Tiger Token’?"
Zhou Birong also hurriedly came over and said, "Yeah, Xiao Wei, don’t be scared, we’re all here, whatever it is, tell us, we’ll help you."
Fang Jiong grunted and said, "Such a bothersome child, even if the sky falls, we adults are still here to hold it up, a little girl, what’s there to be in panic."
As Su Yu and the others continued to soothe her, Kou Xiaowei slightly calmed down, then said in a frightful face: "This kind of ’White Tiger Token’ is a symbol of identity, this dead woman, was actually a formal member... and this ’White Tiger Token’ also has a special effect... as soon as the person wearing this ’White Tiger Token’ dies, the one on the other end will immediately sense it, and will soon track this ’White Tiger Token’ back here... this time... this time I fear...many terrifying people will appear... we’re... we’re all done for, we won’t be able to escape."
Kou Xiaowei screamed out, apparently, she had a tremendous fear of the power that this "White Tiger Token" represented.
Upon hearing this, Su Yu picked up the "White Tiger Token" from the ground, and said, "The other party can track their way here using this thing?"
"Yes." Kou Xiaowei’s face was still full of fear. "And they’ll be here very soon."
"Then let’s destroy this ’White Tiger Token’ immediately." Qin Jiagui hastily suggested.
Kou Xiaowei shook her head and said: "No use, this kind of ’White Tiger Token’ is almost indestructible, and even if it’s destroyed, as long as a little remains, the other party can still track their way here."
Upon hearing this, Su Yu had a thought, and having made a decision, he addressed Zhang Zhongmou and the others: "Everyone, get to work immediately, bury these two bodies and clean up all traces at the scene. Leave Situ Wuqing’s body." As he spoke, he leaped up and quickly climbed one of the tallest trees.
"Alright." Zhang Zhongmou agreed and drew out his Red Lotus Sword. He didn’t know why Su Yu wanted to leave Situ Wuqing’s body, but he didn’t give it too much thought. All he had to do was follow Su Yu’s orders.
Zhao Shichang waved his bone knife to help dig the hole, while the other people began to clean up the blood on the ground and traces of the fight. Zhou Birong had a wealth of experience in such matters, under her guidance, the scene was being restored bit by bit.
"Su Yu, what are you doing up there?" Su Yun looked up and couldn’t help calling out.
Lei Rui gently tugged at her sleeve and quietly said, "He’s trying to throw the White Tiger Token as far away as possible."
Su Yun exclaimed, and then she realized.
Just as Lei Rui said, Su Yu climbed up the highest tree to throw away the White Tiger Token.
Since the enemy could locate the "White Tiger Token", Su Yu planned to use this to deceive the enemy. After stabilizing himself on the top of the tallest tree, he took a deep breath. With the White Tiger Token in his right hand, calculating the direction, when they initially headed north to find the exit, they now had to head south to return to school, thus...
With a low growl, Su Yu’s right arm started showing black scales, activating the power of Golden Blood, pushing the power in his right arm to its peak, he held the White Tiger Token, and suddenly threw it towards the west.
They were originally perched atop a low hill, and had climbed to the top of a tree, giving them the high ground. When Su Yu threw with all his strength, the "White Tiger Token" transformed into a streak of dark light. It zhooped away towards the west side of the forest, disappearing from sight. It was uncertain where it landed, but judging by the terrifying force used in the throw, it undoubtedly flew far out of the forest surrounding the low hill.
Inwardly, Su Yu calculated that even if the enemy found the White Tiger Token, the place where it landed would be devoid of any traces or hints of him and his group. It would thus be incredibly difficult for the enemy to track them down, unless the enemy also had someone like Situ Wuqing who could locate them using their energy. If that were the case, they would be in trouble. But for now, all they could do was play it by ear.
Su Yu jumped down from the tree and saw that everyone was disposing of Gui Fantian’s corpses. Soon, the bodies were buried, and any traces of blood were cleaned up. At first glance, one could hardly tell that a battle had taken place here.
Su Yu picked up the two halves of Situ Wuqing’s body which laid on the ground. Noting that the sky was starting to darken, indicating that nightfall was near, he said, "Let’s go." He then dashed off into the distance.
They had initially planned to spend the night here, but in light of Kou Xiaowei’s reaction and her explanation of the "White Tiger Token’s" special effects, everyone felt chilled. Even though they did not know the whole truth about the "White Tiger Token," based on Kou Xiaowei’s reaction, it was evidently a formidable and terrifying thing. Naturally, the farther they got from it, the better.
"Su Yu, why are you bringing that woman’s corpse with us?" Su Yun couldn’t help but ask curiously.
Su Yu gestured to her not to ask too many questions. In reality, he was too lazy to explain. He carried Situ Wuqing’s corpse while sprinting and soon reached the entrance of a collapsed cave halfway up the hillside. He tossed the corpse inside, then moved several large rocks to block the entrance.
The rest of the group exchanged puzzled looks. Su Yu turned back and said with a smile, "I don’t know if this will be of any use, but it might just delay the enemy’s search for us, right? Alright, let’s get moving immediately. Travel through the night and try not to leave any obvious traces."
Qin Jiagui nodded, "Everyone be careful. Let’s go."
Now that there were two fourth-level individuals in their group, their overall strength was quite formidable. Traveling through the night wasn’t as daunting as before. They had already traversed through this part of the forest and had not yet encountered any third-level or higher monsters.
The group accelerated, carrying roughly enough food to last them six or seven days, and began sprinting southward through the forest.
Qin Jiagui and Su Yu led the way, while Fang Jiong fell back to the end of the line. The group of fifteen people marched forward at a swift pace.
Looking back at the zero-level and first-level members of his group, Su Yu furrowed his brows. If he were to run at full speed, he could cover as much ground in one night as an average person could in ten nights. Unfortunately, the slower members of the group were holding him back. Their speed was indeed faster than average, but only by a factor of one or two.
With that, Su Yu suddenly realized a troubling fact. If they were being pursued by a group of fourth-level or higher individuals, the distance those pursuers could cover in one night was unimaginable. This offered some insight into Kou Xiaowei’s warning about their pursuers catching up soon.
If their pursuers were a group of powerful beings who could cover in a day the distance they covered in ten, that was truly terrifying. It implied that to these powerful beings, the vast forest was nothing more than an obstacle they could easily traverse.
With these complex thoughts in mind, Su Yu knew they had unwittingly provoked a terrifying power, and there was likely no turning back—the conflict between them had escalated to the point where he had already killed two of their members.
What was worse, he knew nothing about this intimidating power. Thinking of this, he couldn’t help but glance back at Kou Xiaowei in the group and heave a sigh.
What was so special about this girl that the enemy was so desperate to kill her?
The sky gradually darkened, and Qin Jiagui and his companions pulled out flashlights. Although they had been in the forest for over ten days, they had been economical with their usage, so the flashlights still had power. Utilizing the light from the flashlights, they hurried through the dark. Their speed, however, was considerably slower.
As they travelled, they left markers along the way so they could easily find their way back to school. These markers, however, could become troublesome and be used by their enemies. Even if they destroyed the markers, some traces would remain.
They ran until midnight, by which point they had no idea how far they had gone. The zero-level individuals were heaving for breath and could run no further, which forced the group to stop for a rest.
Liu Zheng, panting heavily, drank two mouthfuls of water and muttered, "Damn, are we really in another world? This is nothing like the books... I’m exhausted... there’s nothing enjoyable about this..."
"We’ll rest here for a while, then continue on," Qin Jiagui said, looking up at the dark sky. He could not help but feel a deep sense of dread, as if some terrifying and evil power might descend upon them at any moment.
