Chapter 116: Chapter 114 Deadly Battle Awakening
This was a creature that, similar to a pangolin, was covered with thick scales and dragged a giant tail. Yet, its body was several times larger than the monsters they had just slain, signaling that this was, no doubt, the leader of this horde of creatures.
The moment this creature appeared, the one-eared woman and her four companions quickly dispersed, fanning out in five directions and surrounding it.
"Big guy!" the one-eared woman called out, rooted in her spot.
"Roger that, Boss!" Huai Wu responded with laughter, his right arm transforming into a giant black bear paw, he slammed it straight into the creature.
His strike had a terrifying power that even this leader-level creature had to halt its roar, extending a forelimb to block. Simultaneously, its other claw flashed forward towards Huai Wu’s chest.
The woman extended her arm and pointed out. "Old Li!"
The one-armed man didn’t say a word but instead swiftly followed suit. Tree roots burst from his chest and rapidly ensnared the other claw aiming for Huai Wu’s chest.
"Glasses Man, Zhongnan!" the woman quickly commanded. Glasses Man and the tattooed man rushed from both sides as quick as lightning.
Glasses Man stretched out his right hand, ensnaring the creature’s left hind leg with a swath of black mysterious fog. The tattooed man’s metallic pipe produced a snapping sound as frosty mist spurted out. He then struck with a frost fist, aiming it right at the beast’s right hind leg.
On the other hand, all Qin Jiagui, Zhao Shichang and their companions could do was watch in awe as this group launched their coordinated attack. Their excellent teamwork and precise target selection had rendered this monstrous creature helpless. After only one round of combat, it let out a pitiful howl, its legs disabled and its colossal body collapsed. Huai Wu had already achieved his target and swiftly retreated.
First, it was Huai Wu who rushed forward, capturing the creature’s primary attention. The one-armed man assisted him, ensuring his safety. However, it was Glasses Man and the tattooed man who launched the real attack, incapacitating the creature’s hind legs within the blink of an eye.
Having lost its legs, the creature collapsed onto the ground. Almost simultaneously, the one-eared woman finally made her move. She was even faster than the four men. With abrupt speed, she lunged forward.
In that instant, she swept her right hand across her left wrist, revealing an astonishing scene. A faint red light emerged from her left wrist, and with a draw of her right hand, she unsheathed a long sword radiating a soft, red glow.
The sword, including the hilt, was about 1.2 meters long and slightly wide, roughly the width of three fingers. It had fiery red symbols, resembling charms, flowing along the blade, exuding energy that even an ordinary person could sense.
Taking advantage of the creature’s toppled state, the woman easily leapt onto it. Once in the air, she gripped the sword with both hands and plunged it downwards.
With a "swoosh" sound, the long sword penetrated the creature’s body effortlessly as though piercing tofu, sinking in completely.
"Ahh—" A mournful scream burst out from the creature. Its body shook violently, rapidly, but it soon relaxed again.
Having completed her task, the woman withdrew and landed back on the ground. She clapped her hands together, as though she’d just completed a trivial chore. Then, she simply said, "Zhongnan."
The tattooed man nodded, watching as the creature, after taking a hit to its back from the long sword, let out a mournful hiss. Its entire body convulsed, gradually stretching out. However, its eyes were already dimming, signaling it wouldn’t be long for this world.
Without any more hesitation, the tattooed man lunged forward. As the sound of a "click" echoed from the metallic tube on his right hand, he sent a frost fist slamming down.
With a "slap", his fist struck the beast’s drooping head. The punch was released with all his strength, powerful enough to crush stone, let alone the creature’s head.
Watching the creature’s head burst apart, a black crystal emerged, disappearing into the tattooed man’s right arm.
A low growl came from his mouth. Huai Wu advanced a step and asked, "How did it go, any breakthrough?"
The tattooed man let out a small growl, then lifted his head, looking a bit disappointed. "Still a bit off. Damn it, is advancing to the third level really that hard?"
Hearing his words, the others sighed and displayed expressions of disappointment.
The one-eared woman stepped forward and retrieved her long sword from the creature’s back. With a flick of her wrist, the sword erupted in a blinding red glow before swiftly disappearing back into her left wristband. It was at this moment that everyone noticed the unremarkable bracelet on her left wrist.
Seeing the woman’s sword magically appear and then just as mysteriously vanish, everyone exchanged tentative glances, not knowing what to make of it.
Did she hide the sword in the bracelet? No, that’s impossible. Clearly, such a thing would completely refute the laws of science. Nevertheless, Qin Jiagui and the others vaguely guessed that the sword wasn’t as simple as it seemed. It could be like Li Dong’s poisonous bees, capable of being summoned.
Having observed this team’s impeccable coordination and smooth takedown of the formidable creature, Qin Jiagui couldn’t help but feel that in comparison, his team seemed like a disorganized mob.
After dealing with the leader creature, Huai Wu walked over to meet Qin Jiagui’s group with a frivolous smile on his face. He commented warmly, "Let’s move together. You folks being able to find food in such an environment is nothing short of impressive. But, your group sure is... peculiar. Ha, haha."
