A Cultivator in the World Dominated By Awakeners -
Chapter 44: Not a Problem
Chapter 44: Not a Problem
He didn’t expect the man would actually report it to the police—and that they would arrive so quickly and find him so easily.
This showed that the man’s background wasn’t ordinary.
However, it didn’t worry him too much.
"Emma, calm down!" he said to the short white-haired girl as he patted her shoulder.
"How am I supposed to calm down? They’re going to arrest you! Don’t think you can get away—they even brought two Awakener officers. They said they’re Level 18!"
The girl only grew more panicked as she explained the situation.
"What are we going to do? We’re in trouble! If you get locked up, what’s going to happen to me and Mom?"
Not only was she panicked, her eyes had started to fill with tears.
Oliver wasn’t surprised that the police had brought along powerful Awakeners. After all, normal officers wouldn’t be able to arrest a Cultivator or Awakener.
Seeing his younger sister begin to cry, he had no choice but to pinch her cheek gently.
"Stay here," he told her, before stepping forward.
But there was no way Emma was just going to wait upstairs. She quickly followed behind him.
As he reached the stairs, Oliver saw five men—three in police uniforms and two in civilian clothes. However, it was the two in plainclothes that radiated the most threat.
The five officers had already entered his home.
Fortunately, they were still being polite, explaining to his mother that they needed to investigate something.
"Mom, it’s okay," Oliver said as he walked down the stairs.
Unlike Emma, Sofia didn’t express her anxiety through words. She tried to act calm, but her pale complexion betrayed her true nervousness.
Oliver met the officers’ gazes as they turned to look at him.
"Mr. Whitemoon, we suspect you’ve assaulted a man named Murphy Jackson, and we have a warrant to bring you in for further investigation. Please come with us," said one of the uniformed officers—not one of the Awakeners.
His tone was polite enough, but Oliver knew well that police only acted nice on the surface. Once inside the station, they could become much more ruthless.
"Just a moment. Can I contact someone first?" he replied.
He merely said that, but the officers all immediately furrowed their brows.
"Who?" one of the Awakener officers asked.
"My teacher—the head of the City Cultivator Association," Oliver answered without hesitation.
If the enemy relied on their background, naturally he would too.
"What?" All five officers looked so shocked they nearly jumped.
"What, you don’t believe me?" Oliver was too lazy to keep pretending to be polite.
He showed them his chat with Evylin.
Of course, it didn’t prove much, but Evylin’s profile was very clear, with her own photo.
The officers should recognize her—being police, they had access to the most information.
The strongest Cultivator in the country wasn’t someone they could possibly not know.
Besides, Evylin’s photo wasn’t something easily found, and anyone who had it would think many times before impersonating her.
In other words, a profile with her image was very likely real.
After seeing it, the officers started exchanging glances.
Their previously calm and confident demeanor had vanished.
Oliver may have been in the wrong, but in conflicts between superhumans, fault often meant little. Who was hero and who was villain depended on their strength.
"How about we head back for now?" one of the officers suggested.
He clearly didn’t want to get involved in this.
The other four officers were naturally happy with that idea. They nodded immediately.
"Mr. Whitemoon, sorry for the trouble. We’ll return for now. If we receive any further updates, we’ll be in touch," said the officer who had spoken earlier.
After that, they all hurried out.
’I didn’t even contact my teacher yet, and they’re already this afraid.’ Oliver couldn’t help but show a strange expression.
After all, he didn’t even know if his teacher would really help him deal with this issue.
Of course, from the officers’ perspective, it was only natural not to want to get involved in anything that might anger the strongest Cultivator in the country.
Sofia and Emma could only look in astonishment as the officers left just like that.
"Mom, I just found out myself—my teacher is apparently the strongest Cultivator in the country. No one’s going to mess with me that easily," Oliver said, feeling the need to reassure his mother that his backing was strong.
With that new information, Sofia and Emma seemed to need a moment to process it.
"By the way, Mom, I need to go to my teacher’s house. For breakfast, just order something through the app," Oliver added.
Today, he was going to visit Evylin’s residence again as she had instructed yesterday—she would help him restore the size of the snake scales he’d obtained.
Sofia subconsciously nodded, while Oliver headed to the bathroom.
To visit his teacher, he needed to look good—neat and well-dressed.
With his improved appearance, he could only be described as striking when dressed properly.
Sofia and Emma, just now starting to realize his transformation, could only stare at him in awe.
"See you later, Mom. When I get back, I’ll bring you something amazing," Oliver said before leaving the house.
He ordered an online taxi to take him straight to her home.
There was plenty of money in the bank card Ivy had given him, so he didn’t need to hold back. Besides, Ivy herself wanted him to use it freely.
When he arrived again at Evylin’s residential complex, the security guards no longer stopped him. He was even allowed in with the taxi that brought him.
The taxi stopped right in front of Evylin’s mansion. Unlike last night, the giant black wolf was nowhere in sight.
Instead, Oliver saw Lisa, sweeping up fallen leaves.
The maid quickly opened the gate for him.
"Boss said if you came, you could enter. Please come in," the maid told him.
As always, Evylin was incredibly meticulous about everything. Oliver nodded to Lisa before entering the luxurious mansion.
The living room once again left him amazed by its opulence.
However, he didn’t see any sign of Evylin.
"Please have a seat. I’ll prepare some coffee for you," Lisa’s voice rang out from behind him.
She had apparently followed him in.
Oliver nodded again without asking where Evylin was.
Maybe she was still busy—he didn’t mind waiting.
He didn’t sit on the sofa, but instead at a small table by the window, where he could admire the beautiful garden at the side of the mansion.
Lisa prepared the coffee quickly—warm café au lait of exceptional quality.
As he drank it, he felt nothing but deep relaxation and refreshment.
After handing him the coffee, Lisa returned to sweeping the leaves in the yard.
From beginning to end, there wasn’t the slightest reaction on her face when she saw him. Even his change in appearance seemed unimportant to her.
