A Crazy Love Proposal -
Chapter 232 - 232 122 Because I Miss You a Lot
Chapter 232: Chapter 122: Because I Miss You a Lot Chapter 232: Chapter 122: Because I Miss You a Lot Wen Yangzhi was just teasing her, and he withdrew his arm.
Zhao Qin acted as if these two people did not exist in the old house, avoiding them, while Wen Wei, upon running into them, greeted them with a friendly and beaming smile.
The Wen Corporation’s board meeting was held as scheduled, but everyone knew well that it was a showdown between Director Lin and Director Wen.
Lin Zhidong was determined to have the shareholder meeting intervene by adding two of his people into the board meeting.
The moment everyone arrived, he took the initiative, “Director Wen keeps so much bank floating capital, and it has already been two years. During the previous underwriting of government bonds, Director Wen played it safe.”
Lin Zhidong revealed his big teeth amiably as he sat to the left of Wen Yangzhi, and upon sitting down, he looked a great deal shorter than Wen Yangzhi, as if he were caught by an elevator, only the lower half of his body visible:
“But after all, this is the business world, and if Director Wen applies the doctrine of the Mean here, it’s feared that Wen’s future survival might be challenging, not to mention its global ranking, but even its domestic commercial ranking has dropped quite a bit.”
Wen Yangzhi listened to the seemingly cordial but actually dismissive comments from the other party and remained quietly attentive.
After listening to him, Wen Yangzhi said in a calm voice, “Eva, show the slides.”
The secretary hurriedly came forward to show the slides and explained, “This is from yesterday and today, Magu’s current floating capital.”
“Yesterday, Magu’s floating capital was $241.1 billion; as of today, it’s $221.3 billion,”
The directors looked at each other.
Setting aside how Wen Yangzhi obtained such confidential data, everyone could see what the concept of $20 billion less in floating capital meant.
But what does that have to do with Wen Corporation?
Lin Zhidong took a sip of tea and laughed, “Director Wen, we have more liquidity than Magu. Does this prove that we are doing very well?”
Other directors also spoke up, “Is our competition only with Magu? We can’t even win domestically.”
However, Wen Yangzhi maintained the composure of one who sits firmly at the fishing platform, ready to open the window and invite in the great river:
“Soon, Wen’s will become the number one commercial firm in the country.”
The directors immediately laughed in their hearts, mostly in mockery, although none showed it. But how could Wen’s claim to be the number one commercial firm in the country?
Currently, Wen’s ranks sixth among commercial firms, leading the pack in Shanghai but hardly noteworthy nationwide.
Young people, they just don’t understand.
Wen Yangzhi’s comments were scoffed at by the executive director sitting to his right, “Director Wen, just having a lot of liquid capital can secure the position of the top commercial firm, so why invest at all? Why not just store the money?”
Wen Yangzhi knew that just laying it out there wouldn’t convince anyone and remained unperturbed:
“Indeed, I have retained a large amount of liquid capital without any investment, but devaluing the RMB exchange rate, keeping capital flow without any investment is also a form of investment, besides, this money now has a use.”
Someone spoke leisurely, “So? Does Director Wen have a big investment project in mind?”
Wen Yangzhi looked at the data on the ppt and calmly threw out a statement no one would believe:
“Yes, I plan to acquire Magu.”
The directors were astonished.
At the end of the long table, Wen Yangzhi sat with ease, leaning against the back of the leather chair, waiting for everyone to speak up.
Zhu Nongzhang took Yun Yuwan to the old neighborhood’s alleys in the area scheduled for demolition and walked down the winding paths.
Yun Yuwan walked past clotheslines hanging in the air with laundry, carefully not to bump into the dusty electric scooters parked by the roadside, “Is that demi-immortal as miraculous as you say?”
“Sister-in-law, don’t you trust me? With our relationship, I wish I could crawl into the bed you share with Director Wen at night, sleep with you, and get on good terms,” Zhu Nongzhang, carrying a bag of apples, strongly endorsed,
“She’s exceptionally good at divining romantic fate. For my last three ex-boyfriends, she even predicted when we would break up and whether they were hiding something from me. It was like magic.”
The bodyguards followed behind through the alleys as residents passing by couldn’t help but take a few more glances.
“Is it really that supernatural?” Yun Yuwan asked curiously.
Zhu Nongzhang whispered mysteriously, “You’ll know once you’re there. You’ll understand what ‘marvellous skill’ means.”
Arriving outside a self-built house, Zhu Nongzhang knocked on the door, “Miss, we’re here.”
An old lady, hunchbacked and leaning on a crutch, came to open the door, “Come in.”
Zhu Nongzhang went in first, and Yun Yuwan, looking at the dim interior and the shrine in the living room with fresh fruit offerings before the Buddha statue, noticed that the floor wasn’t tiled but made of red clay bricks that looked damp and dark.
Yun Yuwan said nothing, feeling an inexplicable eeriness about the place.
Before climbing the stairs, the old lady looked at Zhu Nongzhang, “Is it for you?”
Zhu Nongzhang quickly pointed towards Yun Yuwan, “It’s for her.”
The old lady nodded, “Then step aside for a moment.”
Then she looked at Yun Yuwan, “Follow me.”
Yun Yuwan felt oddly nervous as she followed the old lady upstairs, where the view opened up considerably. Through the old-style wooden windows, one could even see the Suzhou River.
The old lady first lit three sticks of incense and recited a long dialect incantation that seemed part chant, part spell.
After a while, she handed Yun Yuwan a piece of red paper, “Young lady, write down your birth date and the birth date of the man you want to inquire about.”
Having never done this before, Yun Yuwan wrote it down, and the old lady glanced at it:
“Are you looking to see if you can get married?”
Although Yun Yuwan didn’t particularly want to know anything specific, she was curious and went along with it, “Yes.”
“He’s four years older than you, you just met him now?” asked the old lady, looking at the red paper.
Yun Yuwan honestly replied, “I’ve known him for over seven, almost eight years.”
“You met through family, right?” The old lady nodded.
Yun Yuwan began to feel there was something to this, “Yes, our families have been friends for generations, and my mother owes his family a favor.”
“Does your family approve of this?”
Yun Yuwan didn’t understand why it mattered, “His mother is somewhat disapproving.”
The old lady suddenly said, “Hold on, do you disagree?”
Yun Yuwan did not know what the problem was: “Yes…”
But the old lady did not say anything else, she just frowned: “You’ve had your eye on this man for quite a while now, haven’t you?”
Yun Yuwan was surprised: “Yes, he has too.”
The old lady asked further, “During this time, he kept thinking of you, didn’t look for a girlfriend?”
“Yes, not even one.”
The old lady suddenly tapped the red paper, looking solemn: “You’re sure about that, right?”
Yun Yuwan was puzzled: “I’m sure, he’s not the type to lie.”
The old lady looked up at her face and attire, which were also of fine quality:
“This man is outstanding, but he hasn’t had a girlfriend for several years.”
Yun Yuwan felt that it was quite normal since they had been thinking of each other: “That’s right.”
“Did you ever ask him if there’s any hereditary diseases in his family?”
Yun Yuwan was stunned: “He never mentioned that. I’ve lived with him for a while, everything is normal.”
“Is he particularly clean?”
“Yes,” Yun Yuwan felt amazed, “…Can you really tell that?”
The old lady lit three more sticks of incense: “Consider it carefully, there might be personality clashes, but there should be a result within a short period.”
“Personality clashes?” Yun Yuwan was surprised.
But they hadn’t had any issues during this period.
The old lady joined in: “That’s what your fates show. It’s not appropriate for me to say more.”
“I can pay more.” Yun Yuwan felt there was magic in this.
The old lady lifted her aged eyes to look at her: “Even with more money, it’s not possible. If it turns out true, you can come back to fulfil your vow after some time.”
Yun Yuwan was a bit distracted as she walked downstairs, while Zhu Nongzhang had already put the divination fee into a red envelope and handed it over to the old lady’s daughter.
The old lady’s daughter went upstairs, casually placing the bag of apples on the sofa: “Mum, you’ve given another clear fortune-telling.”
“With the ability to read people, one can glimpse a person’s fate. You don’t need to ask the gods every time; doing it too much shortens your life.” The old lady rinsed her hands in a ceramic basin.
Looking back at the bag of apples, she scolded: “Don’t just throw things around.”
The old lady’s daughter propped her leg on the coffee table: “Why? Only people with mental issues are obsessive about cleanliness; it’s normal for me to be this casual.”
“Being messy isn’t normal either.” The old lady shook off the water from her hands.
Yun Yuwan and Zhu Nongzhang walked through the alleyway.
Zhu Nongzhang, fearing she would find the experience unsettling, initiated: “That demi-goddess is a bit weird, huh?”
“But she has been accurate about my situation several times,” Yun Yuwan said, feeling a bit mystical.
Zhu Nongzhang was curious: “What did she say about you and Director Wen?”
Yun Yuwan confusedly replied: “She said to consider carefully; there might be personality clashes, but there will be a result in a short time.”
“So weird, it’s the first time I’ve heard this kind of statement, so vague. She didn’t tell you to break up, nor did she say it won’t work,” Zhu Nongzhang carefully avoided a puddle.
What does a result mean? Is it the fruition of blossoming? Or is it seeing an insurmountable problem and ending the relationship?
But Yun Yuwan counted on her fingers, according to the timeline Wen Yangzhi had set for their relationship to grow.
Three months, less than two months left before they could talk about marriage.
Did it mean that they might still need to work things out even after marriage?
Once Yun Yuwan got home, she saw Wen Yangzhi sitting on the sofa downstairs.
She was curious: “What are you doing here?”
He turned off his phone and stood up: “Waiting for you to come back.”
As he stood, his long legs were noticeable, and Yun Yuwan just realized he was not in a suit but jeans and a hoodie:
“Why are you dressed like this?”
He lowered his long black lashes to look at her: “I was planning to play tennis.”
He took step inside.
Yun Yuwan followed him, and as they reached the corner of the staircase, she asked, “Then why didn’t you go?”
He suddenly stopped, turned around, and embraced her: “Because I missed you a lot.”
His embrace was warm and broad; Yun Yuwan’s facial muscles could not help but be drawn towards a smile.
The two of them hugged in the empty stairwell, he did not let go of her, and Yun Yuwan leaned into his chest.
Wen Wei happened to pass by and glanced down, seeing Wen Yangzhi hugging Yun Yuwan.
After a while, Wen Yangzhi lowered his head.
Initially, Wen Wei was curious what sweet nothings they were whispering to be standing so close, but when he bent down for another look, Wen Yangzhi and Yun Yuwan were kissing.
Wen Wei stiffened in an instant.
Wen Yangzhi, with his arm around her waist, turned his head slightly during the kiss, one hand supporting the back of her head.
With his age, Wen Wei felt bewildered and walked away with his thermos cup.
It was, after all, quite sticky.
