A Crazy Love Proposal -
Chapter 165 - 165 93 Loving you not because you were born
Chapter 165: Chapter 93 Loving you not because you were born beautiful Chapter 165: Chapter 93 Loving you not because you were born beautiful Yun Yuwan was instantly so embarrassed she had nowhere to hide, stunned as she placed her hands on the washbasin and leaned forward to the mirror to see her eyes, swollen and red.
Her face flushed with shame, “Why didn’t you tell me just now? You were just busy kissing me.”
Wen Yangzhi stood at the doorway with a playful smile, teasing leisurely, “Who can blame me when I was so impatient and insatiable, I remembered only to indulge with you and was so anxious that I didn’t even look at your face.”
Yun Yuwan’s face turned red, which was precisely what she had been thinking.
But she had no time to feel ashamed or angry.
What if her face was ruined?
She reached out to touch it, noting it neither hurt nor itched. Looking up again at the mirror, she noticed streaks where she had touched her eyelid.
She was a bit puzzled and looked down, finding the eyeshadow all reddened on her hands.
It was the eyeshadow,
not her eyes.
Yun Yuwan breathed a sigh of relief, having thought her eyes were swollen.
When she applied it, it was just a faint pink. It had oxidized into such a deep color, looking as if she had a bloody, swollen bruise.
So much for ‘beauty intensifies by night’—false advertising. She would never buy this brand’s makeup again.
Initially, she had intended to seduce Wen Yangzhi.
Yun Yuwan internally wailed.
She had thought he was really captivated, but it turned out he was just amused by her ugliness.
She called out to him, accusatory, “Wen Yangzhi.”
Wen Yangzhi stood at the doorway, his tall figure blocking the overhead hall light. Against the light, with a lazy posture and a cigarette between his fingers, he looked at her with a smile in his eyes:
“What’s the matter, white swan?”
Yun Yuwan pointed at her eyes, “Did I look like this just now?”
Wen Yangzhi appeared indifferent, “Like what?”
She pointed at her eyes, “This ugly?”
“Not at all.” He casually flicked cigarette ash into the sink with the hand holding his cigarette.
She made a face, “Isn’t this ugly?”
“You’ve never been ugly,” he said naturally, without any pretense, as if truly finding her captivating in this state.
Yun Yuwan almost couldn’t keep from smiling, but she replied with discomfort, “And you’re still teasing me while my family just saw how ugly I looked.”
Wen Yangzhi slightly lifted his heavy eyelids, his gaze gentle, “Do you care that much?”
“Yes,” Yun Yuwan’s shoulders slumped.
He stopped joking with her, his tone calm, soothing her emotions, “You didn’t look like this earlier.”
Yun Yuwan suddenly felt hopeful, “Really?”
Joy and relief flashed across her eyes.
Wen Yangzhi said nothing, only watching her quietly with his long fingers holding the cigarette.
Though she hadn’t mentioned it, he could feel her original anxiety about others’ judgment of her.
Theoretically, NPD is actually a lack of confidence; the inflated self-confidence comes from others’ evaluations, any slight praise is magnified by her, a fool, to soothe her fear and discomfort with her environment.
Knowing the outside world’s negative perception of her could cause her extreme anxiety.
Having grown into adulthood in unfamiliar and unforgiving surroundings, any small mistake could trap her in an insurmountable situation, where only self-comfort could grant her a sense of worth.
These unwritten rules, detailed in textbooks, were now embodied by his beloved.
Seeing her distressed over such a trifling matter, an indescribable feeling arose in Wen Yangzhi’s chest.
Zhao Qin cares the most about appearances, critical and pretentious. Even without Yun Yuwan specifying who the “family” in “everyone in the family saw it” referred to, Wen Yangzhi guessed why she was anxious about the red eyeshadow.
He always enjoyed teasing her.
But when it came to her anxieties, he was no longer a frivolous young man.
Wen Yangzhi watched her dabbing water on a washcloth to wipe off her eyeshadow, his tone cool and unhurried, “If it had been like this just now, Uncle Deng would have asked you earlier if you needed a doctor.”
Yun Yuwan suddenly realized, “That’s true.”
Feeling relieved, she looked at herself in the mirror, decked out in makeup, and muttered in complaint, “I’m never using this eyeshadow again.”
How could it have oxidized so badly? It had looked so beautiful in the afternoon.
Wen Yangzhi leaned against the doorframe, took a light drag from his cigarette, and then stretched his hand to the sink to flick the ash.
Knowing she hadn’t embarrassed herself, Yun Yuwan turned back to him, full of anticipation, “How did I do today?”
“Pretty good,” he answered her nonchalantly.
Yun Yuwan walked over, her chin resting against his chest, and looked up at him with those unwashed, frog-like eyes, commanding, “Then summarize it in two words.”
He chuckled softly, didn’t answer immediately, just exhaled a cloud of smoke, not hugging her back, but two emotionless words floated carelessly from his thin lips:
“Beautiful lady.”
Yun Yuwan: “?”
She closed her eyes, unable to suppress her speechlessness yet genuinely amused, and laughed.
She took the washcloth, dabbed it with makeup remover, and wiped her face in a circle, not thoroughly cleaning it, with remnants still at the corners of her eyes. Yet, she walked up to him and asked deliberately:
“Am I beautiful?”
Wen Yangzhi asked her indifferently, “Do you want the truth or a lie?”
Without hesitation, she responded, “The truth.”
“Not bad,” he replied blandly, a letdown.
She felt slightly disappointed, but then she thought about how handsome he himself was and that he had seen plenty of beautiful people; perhaps she wasn’t anything special.
“And what’s the lie?”
His voice was lazy and relaxed, with a hint of a smile, “Very ugly, so ugly that I have absolutely no interest in bed.”
Since their first time, Yun Yuwan, tormented every night, and even during the day: “…”
She snorted with a slight sense of pride, thinking, ‘Just say I’m beautiful directly, why beat around the bush?’
She returned to the mirror to clean up her eyes thoroughly.
He watched her, and then unexpectedly called out, “Yun Yuwan.”
Yun Yuwan turned her head, puzzled, “Hmm?”
“I like you, and it really isn’t much about what you look like,” Wen Yangzhi’s long eyelashes cast a shadow under the overhead light, obscuring the color of his eyes, which rendered his emotions somewhat elusive.
He suddenly grew earnest, slowing down her heartbeat.
Yun Yuwan was slow on the uptake but mentioned what had always subtly bothered her, “But isn’t it because I look like the anime character you like that you noticed me?”
His demeanor remained calm, just watching her, his voice slowing to make sure she understood:
“If I were twenty and liked you for just three months, you would be right. But I’m now twenty-eight, and I’ve seen countless beauties. Liking someone just for their looks is short-lived. If I liked you just for your looks, we wouldn’t be together after you came back this time.”
His gaze was mature, and she couldn’t clearly see his flickering sight, the depths beneath impenetrable.
He did not like her for six years because she resembled someone else.
He liked her simply because she was Yun Yuwan.
Wen Yangzhi rarely revealed his feelings, and Yun Yuwan had never heard such a detailed and sincere confession from him.
She stood there stunned, gazing at his strikingly handsome face, not knowing how to react, as if someone had pressed the slow-motion button.
Wen Yangzhi’s demeanor remained calm and unruffled. It didn’t seem like he was making a deliberate confession. He didn’t linger or wait for any response from her, just stepped away with long strides, closed the door behind him, and left her alone in the bathroom.
The lock clicked, and with a crisp sound, his deep, steady voice emerged:
“Clean your face and come out. I’ll chat with you for a while.”
Yun Yuwan was still standing there, her mind filled with the sound and expression of Wen Yangzhi’s words just now.
He liked her, and it wasn’t because of her appearance.
