Chapter 1648: Chapter 1100 Dongfeng Arrives

The Worldstone has been corrupted.

Standing before the gates of the High Heavens, Tyrael stared at the scene unfolding before him, his brow furrowed in worry.

Things had developed to this point, which was truly beyond Tyrael’s expectations. He had originally thought the Three Prime Evils would make their move, but he didn’t expect Azmodan to take the first step and corrupt the Worldstone. If things continue like this, then mortals in the lower realms will undergo mutations due to the influence of the Soulstone, throwing themselves into Hell and becoming pawns of the Devil.

Indeed, for mortals, is the burden still too heavy?

Tyrael had certainly witnessed Duanmu Huai breaking through the Demon Army and charging into the Worldstone Fortress. But after that, he had heard nothing. Whether or not Duanmu encountered some danger inside was unknown --- although Tyrael knew that human possessed a very powerful strength, one that could even rival that of an Angel, in the end, he was still a single person.

And this Mount Arreat is so tall, with countless Demon Army within it... eh?

At that moment, Tyrael seemed to see something unbelievable, his eyes widening in shock.

What is that...?!

"Uwaah——————!!"

Azmodan’s massive body collapsed heavily to the ground. By now, it no longer retained its earlier valor and confidence; on the contrary, its body had shrunk, and its formerly corpulent figure had withered considerably. And beside it, the demons once led by Azmodan had now all become lifeless corpses, lying on the ground.

"You... you damn bastard......!!"

Azmodan lifted its head in anger, glaring ahead — in front of it floated a figure draped in a black robe, wings as thin as mist spread behind him, signifying his identity.

That was an Angel.

Even Azmodan didn’t know how it appeared; this Angel suddenly emerged here, ignoring all attacks, and with a mere wave of its hand, it killed all the demons present; even Azmodan itself hadn’t been able to resist the Angel’s attack, feeling its inner strength gradually vanish in the cold aura brought by this Angel. Even Azmodan felt its life flickering like a candle in the wind.

However, the black-robed Angel didn’t even spare Azmodan a glance, instead arriving before the crimson Worldstone, staring at it.

"Stop, stop right there!"

Seeing this, Azmodan stood up once more, glaring at the Angel ahead.

"The Worldstone belongs to me! You filthy bastard, don’t you dare touch it!"

But to Azmodan’s roar, the black-robed Angel paid no heed, silently raising its hand, reaching for the Worldstone ahead.

"You bastard—————!!"

Seeing itself entirely ignored, Azmodan was furious, Hellfire erupted from its body, as it lunged straight at the black-robed Angel ahead!

At that moment, a sudden change occurred.

Tyrael felt as though he saw a dazzling sun; the radiant, shining light emerged at the base of Mount Arreat, and in an instant, that bright light illuminated the entire sky. Even Tyrael, as an Angel, instinctively raised a hand to shield his face (although whether there was actually a face was another question).

When Tyrael lowered his hand and looked at the lower realms once more, the scene before his eyes left him utterly stunned.

Mount Arreat, that towering peak, had entirely vanished, leaving only a massive basin.

Mount Arreat, the Worldstone Fortress, along with everything here, had disappeared.

And naturally, those thousands upon thousands of demons had not been spared either.

"What is going on?"

Tyrael stood there dumbfounded, unable to believe his eyes; had the Worldstone exploded? It shouldn’t have, the Worldstone can be destroyed, but how could Azmodan allow the Worldstone to be destroyed? And besides, what could possibly destroy the Worldstone?

Looking at everything before him, Tyrael was speechless, his entire being in a daze --- oh, he didn’t have a face either.

"Well done, it’s settled."

Meanwhile, in the depth of that massive pit, Duanmu Huai pushed away the rubble pressing on his head, stood up refreshed, and stretched.

Who the hell wants to play Musou with you demons? Is a nuke not strong enough? Or am I bored enough to grind achievements?

Of course, there were some minor surprises.

"I really didn’t expect the explosion of the Worldstone to be so fierce, it almost dragged me in too."

Duanmu Huai patted his chest, feeling somewhat relieved. It was understandable; although Duanmu Huai anticipated the Worldstone would explode, he didn’t expect its explosive power to rival their own Dongfeng missile significantly. So it was practically like triggering one nuke with another, a chain reaction, luckily Duanmu Huai was the God of Destruction, sensing the situation was dire and unleashing his power. Using Destruction Magic, he obliterated all attacking forces and shockwaves approaching him, thus averting disaster.

Otherwise...... it would have been like this unfortunate fellow here.

Thinking of this, Duanmu Huai stopped and looked down at what was now less than a third of Azmodan’s body in front of him, the latter already completely shattered by the explosion, and...

"Hmm?"

Taking a closer look at Azmodan’s corpse, Duanmu Huai immediately frowned. Then he reached out, picked up Azmodan’s remains, and stared at them.

However, Azmodan at the moment showed no sign of activity, like a corpse that had already lost its life.

No, strictly speaking, it was indeed dead.

This isn’t right!

Duanmu Huai threw Azmodan’s remains aside and carefully surveyed the surroundings. He was sure he had previously felt Azmodan’s soul. And an explosion of this magnitude shouldn’t have been enough to completely kill Azmodan. So where did its soul go?

Duanmu Huai didn’t think Azmodan was dead for a simple reason — the system hadn’t given any kill notification!

Could it be a bug causing problems?

What should he do? Contact the GM for a reset?

Duanmu Huai pondered for a moment, scratched his head, then shrugged.

Forget it, let’s pretend nothing happened. After all, Azmodan was just a bonus. His main target this time was the Worldstone. Since the Worldstone had been blown up, his mission was considered completed. Azmodan...if it’s not dead, then so be it. Losing one of the Four Heavenly Kings is no big deal. We’ll find it from the Three Prime Evils anyway.

He’s not one of those compulsive achievement collectors who must get every kill.

Maybe it was the Worldstone’s explosion that took Azmodan with it. After all, it’s said to be the Divine Artifact that created the world. An explosion like that would naturally have unparalleled power...

Thinking of this, Duanmu Huai smirked.

Well, he worked hard to set up the bomb, only to have the Worldstone steal his kill?

Oh well, let it steal it. After all, the thing had blown up. He certainly couldn’t complain about it, right?

Reining in his thoughts, Duanmu Huai glanced around. Mount Arreat had long been gone, leaving only a huge black flame-spewing crater...no, it should be called a basin of this magnitude.

From now on, let’s call this place the Arreat Basin.

Alright, mission accomplished, ready to go back and rest.

Duanmu Huai turned, stretched lazily, and then left directly.

There’s nothing left for him to do here; next comes dealing with the Three Prime Evils... and the Angels.

He wanted to see what the Angels of this world really intended to do.

Now, the annoying part for Duanmu Huai was how to draft the report for the King next...no, how to write it.

Yes, just write that the villain boss, unwilling to accept defeat before dying, self-destructed at the end.

After all, that’s pretty much traditional flair, right?

Upon receiving Duanmu Huai’s report, the Kingdom of Heilixi naturally celebrated nationwide. The Four Demon Kings had been eliminated, leaving only the Three Prime Evils. Though the latter was the most critical, humans could finally breathe a sigh of relief and momentarily return to their normal daily lives.

"So, once we eliminate the Three Prime Evils, it’ll all be over." Princess Lilliana took the report Duanmu Huai handed over, equally excited. Hearing Princess Lilliana’s inquiry, Duanmu Huai merely chuckled.

"In theory, yes, but...who knows? It’s better to be cautious in everything, since now isn’t the time to celebrate yet."

Popping champagne at halftime usually causes trouble, though winning isn’t impossible; it just would require a lot of effort from Duanmu Huai.

It’s like in RPG games, where if you find the NPC, they’ll open the door for you. But upon arrival, you find the NPC couldn’t resist going out to play and was captured by the villains halfway. Thus, you have to rescue the NPC, and once they’re rescued, they say the key was snatched by Villain B, so you still have to confront Villain B...all this just to open a stupid door.

In fact, if the stupid NPC hadn’t wandered off, you could’ve just opened the door without wasting so much time.

So Duanmu Huai is most annoyed by popping champagne at halftime.

But unfortunately, others seemed to hold different opinions. Not only did the Kingdom of Heilixi want to hold a grand national festival, but the students also wanted to host a banquet to celebrate thoroughly. Although Duanmu Huai didn’t agree, Mary stated that it would also be a celebration of the students returning alive from Bastion Fortress, so he had no choice but to nod in agreement.

For now, let’s hope it doesn’t turn out like those comic novels and games where the villain boss recklessly ruins the party during singing, dancing, and banquets.
