Chapter 1629: Chapter 1088: Deep Underground
The palace of Lut Gholein, unlike any palace Duanmu Huai has seen. Typically, palaces are built upward, the higher the better. However, the palace of Lut Gholein is quite the opposite, with only two levels above ground, and dug very deep underground... It’s understandable, in this desert city full of swirling sands, opening a window means getting covered with dust. Compared to that, the underground might be dim, but at least it’s not as hot as the surface, which is quite comfortable, isn’t it?
Of course, for the guards stationed here, it’s a nightmare.
"It’s down here?"
Duanmu Huai looked at the dark staircase ahead and asked. Hearing his inquiry, the guard beside him replied tremblingly.
"Y-yes, Brave Lord... The demons appear below, and we have no way to deal with them..."
According to the king, the very bottom was originally his harem, but now it has become a playground for demons. As for the people who were originally there, most have already perished. Initially, the king was quite bold, wanting to send troops down to expel the demons and reclaim the palace, but after sending multiple teams without a word, he meekly backed down.
Currently, each passage has been completely sealed, but even so, the guards stationed at the passages are terrified, fearing the demons might suddenly rush up and kill them. In such a dark and narrow scary environment, the guards’ mentality is nearing the limit.
"I understand, leave it to me. Open it up."
"Yes..."
Upon hearing Duanmu Huai’s command, the guard holding the torch hurriedly stepped forward, opened the sealed iron lid, and pulled it up forcefully. Subsequently, the searchlight on Duanmu Huai’s helmet lit up, and he proceeded down the stairs.
"Boom!"
The heavy iron door closed firmly above Duanmu Huai’s head once more. Clearly, if Duanmu Huai failed to complete the mission, he wouldn’t be leaving.
However, Duanmu Huai obviously did not care about such trivial issues.
"Sigh... Honestly, I really hate this kind of environment."
The underground of the palace was naturally pitch-black, with nothing visible and deathly silent. In the bleak light of the searchlight, only bloodstains and the remnants of corpses could be seen on the floor. Unexpectedly, it seemed like he’d arrived at a set for a horror game.
"Hmm, let me see... Sure enough, there’s a Subspace reaction, it’s over here..."
Duanmu Huai activated the Bird Divination Tool to detect his surroundings, then continued to move forward.
"Thud... thud... thud..."
Around him, there was silence, only Duanmu Huai’s heavy footsteps echoing through the space. If one listened carefully, perhaps they might hear the "dada" of insect-like sounds. But Duanmu Huai was unconcerned with these, focusing only on the signal intensity of the Bird Divination Tool, as he maneuvered and sought a path...
"Roar!!"
Suddenly, as Duanmu Huai passed through another door, a gigantic, four-armed demon brandishing scimitars and entirely red emerged angrily, swinging its scimitar at Duanmu Huai — yet, Duanmu Huai didn’t even glance at it and swung his fist back, smashing the demon’s upper body into pieces.
But this was merely the beginning, as if the demon’s attack sounded the horn for battle; countless monsters surged from all directions in the darkness. Four-armed demons wielding scimitars charged forward, while skeletal monsters behind them screamed and raised their hands, sending electric currents toward Duanmu Huai.
Brilliant white lightning crisscrossed the dark sealed space, illuminating the once dark and lightless world. Surrounded by numerous electrical beams, Duanmu Huai was engulfed, wrapped in the dancing currents.
For an ordinary person, under such an attack, they’d likely be reduced to burnt remains with no bones left. But for Duanmu Huai, such an attack was innocuous — it barely scratched an itch, aside from producing some light pollution and having no effect.
Thus, Duanmu Huai snorted disdainfully.
"Die!"
With Duanmu Huai’s roar, the Fearful Aura imbued with Destruction spread instantly from him, expanding outward.
The first to be affected were those Fresh Red Demons; swept by the aura brimming with destruction, their bodies began to swell, deform, then explode instantly. The electric beams and currents flying towards Duanmu Huai vanished silently into the air, as if devoured by some vast dark entity. Finally, the skeletal monsters releasing the currents at the periphery were fragile and exploded helplessly into pieces, leaving heaps of shattered bones.
Of course, this all occurred in an instant, and for Duanmu Huai, it merely took a low growl, after which the surrounding monsters exploded, scattering a ground full of gold coins, gems, and scrap copper and rotten iron weapons.
Within less than ten seconds, the underground world that had just become noisy due to the monsters’ emergence reverted to its pitch-black silence.
