Chapter 1449: Chapter 981 Mysterious Message_2
Currently, among the four divine positions Duanmu Huai possesses, only the [God of Destruction] is max level, followed by [Old God’s Will], and lastly [Pleasure God] and [The Sixth Great Demon King].
However, upgrading [The Sixth Great Demon King] is far more stringent compared to [Pleasure God]. It requires completely obliterating the opposing religion or belief system to count as experience... In other words, if other divine positions gain experience based on "quantity," then [The Sixth Great Demon King] gains experience based on the destruction of "religious beliefs."
For other divine positions—if you eliminate one enemy, you get 1 point of experience.
For [The Sixth Great Demon King]—if you wipe out Buddhism, you get 999999 points of experience. Moreover, this is calculated according to the scale of the religious belief. If Duanmu Huai eliminates an unknown cult hidden away in some mountain valley, the experience points will be relatively low. But if he targets a worldwide religion, or even one spanning galaxies—a universal sect—then the experience points would flow in like a flood.
Of course, if you manage to kill any divine envoy or even the Main God, the experience points would increase much faster.
Now Duanmu Huai regrets that this divine position came too late. If he had it during the Greece scenario, he might have slaughtered his way up to Zeus, potentially maxing out both the [God of Destruction] and [The Sixth Great Demon King]... Alas, hindsight is a torment—deep, agonizing regret.
Wanting to delete his account and start over... but sadly, that’s impossible.
Life is not a game; there’s no chance for a reset. You just have to grit your teeth and keep moving forward.
"Ah..."
Duanmu Huai sighed quietly and opened the system prompts. Moments later, rows of information appeared before him.
[God of Destruction (LV20)]
[Special Skill: Destruction Magic (Advanced Upgrade/Power+5)]
"Looks like sooner or later, I’ll need to head to that planet and seek advice from Frieren or other Magic Users. This Human Magic System is genuinely intriguing."
Duanmu Huai flexed his arms while mulling things over. Since [Destruction Magic] was a magic he had created himself, it didn’t have detailed skill branches like the system-defined skills. But for Duanmu Huai, it boiled down simply—[Destruction Magic] essentially means "it can destroy everything."
Literally everything.
What Duanmu Huai plans now is to develop more refined methods—like how electricity can be used for lighting, for powering railguns, or even for making... massage devices... Cough, cough. Simply put, if Duanmu Huai fine-tunes his control over the Power of Destruction, he might unlock countless possibilities.
For example, destroying someone’s memories, or obliterating their emotions—though to avoid unnecessary risks, Duanmu Huai has no intention of tampering with time. After all, the flow of time is too unpredictable; if he loses control, he wouldn’t even find someone to clean up his mess.
At least as things stand now, Duanmu Huai’s capabilities make him nearly capable of destroying everything—truly everything, even someone’s existence itself.
Although Duanmu Huai hasn’t tested it yet, he’s confident that after strengthening through the Journey to the West scenario, he could erase an entity’s existence from this world if he desires. It would render them as if they had never existed at all. However, in Duanmu Huai’s view, such an action holds little significance since it implies eradicating them entirely—turning them to ashes, obliterating everything, including their soul.
Doesn’t that seem wasteful? Wouldn’t it be more ecological to toss their soul into the Tribunal’s furnace?
"Whatever, let me rest for a bit before diving into that."
Duanmu Huai decisively closed the system prompts since it wasn’t a priority task for now. His quest list already seemed overloaded—well, even though most missions weren’t actively listed, he still needed to remain vigilant against the Chaos Legion stirring trouble, not to mention defending against the Tyran Swarm’s invasion...
"Ah..."
Leaning back in his chair, Duanmu Huai let out another sigh.
"Knock, knock."
At that moment, someone knocked on the door.
"Come in."
"Ah, Mr. Duanmu."
Soon, the door opened, and Mary stepped inside.
"Oh, Mary, what’s up?"
"Well, actually... I’ve received an invitation."
"A letter? Another case asking you to deal with spirits and demons?"
Upon hearing Mary’s words, Duanmu Huai wasn’t surprised. In her world, Mary had gained considerable fame as a writer, and many who read her novels subsequently invited her to resolve their own troubles, including some involving the Ancient Dominators and supernatural occurrences.
"But this invitation is a bit different..."
"Oh? How is it different?"
"Actually..."
Mary frowned slightly as she explained the situation to Duanmu Huai. Since returning to her world, Mary had been organizing material to write a book about life in the wasteland and Ellie’s experiences, thus staying home most of the time. But just this morning, she discovered a new message on her answering machine, with its timestamp indicating 10 PM the previous night.
However, Mary was certain that yesterday at 10 PM, she had been in her study gathering material and writing, and heard no incoming calls at all.
This baffled Mary to no end, prompting her to seek out Duanmu Huai... As he had previously said she could approach him for anything.
"Oh? Something like that? So you’re saying this message wasn’t there at 10 PM last night but appeared this morning?"
Duanmu Huai took the tape Mary handed him, inserted it into the nearby player, and pressed play. The tape spun for a moment, producing a soft "beep," followed by a faint, indistinct voice.
"Please, help us. Save everyone. If this continues, everyone will die... Hidari Island... during the festival..."
The voice was blurred and unclear, but the gist could be discerned. Shortly afterward, an electronic sound chimed in mechanically.
"10:24 PM."
"It’s Japanese..."
Listening through it, Duanmu Huai glanced at Mary.
"Did you pinpoint the location?"
"I consulted the Masters College’s Eastern Studies faculty. Apparently, that’s a small island in Japan’s Wakayama County. The teacher said the accent seems to match the dialect spoken there."
"Sounds interesting."
Duanmu Huai stretched his arms and stood up.
"Might as well take a trip. Coastal islands sound like a fun place for a little getaway, don’t they?"
