Chapter 1405: Chapter 950: An Unexpected Encounter_2

Ogis sat as usual, steadily on Duanmu Huai’s shoulder, spreading her arms. Invisible threads formed an impenetrable protective barrier, slicing any Genetic Thief who dared to charge through into chunks, as if cutting ham.

On the other side, Mary and Medea were seemingly just there to be onlookers. After the thunderous bombardment bellowed by Duanmu Huai, they had little to do but occasionally fire a shot or launch a few beams of light to make their presence felt.

The Genetic Thieves kept lunging forward incessantly, getting shattered, lunging again, shattering again, and again......

Silence reclaimed the entire warship.

"What’s going on?"

With her gun in hand, Mary looked around in confusion. Just a moment ago, there were flashes of lightning and clusters of monsters. How could they have disappeared in a blink of an eye?

"Saw something prickly and just retreated to think of other approaches, that’s all."

Duanmu Huai sneered. Although Genetic Thieves were insect-like, they could think. Not only do they think, but they also set traps, lure their enemies deep, and then use superior numbers to pick them off one by one.

Of course, all tricks are meaningless in the face of absolute Strength.

But since there are Chicken Thieves around... well...

Duanmu Huai gave it a thought before contacting Aikute.

"Aikute, destroy the entire rear half of the ship, just leave the front half intact."

"Yes, uncle."

"———————!"

Soon, the intense sound of cannon fire erupted, and the whole Spaceship Wreck started to tremble slightly. In contrast, Duanmu Huai heaved a sigh of relief.

"Thank goodness the oil men from Mechanic Religion are not here, otherwise, it would be a real hassle."

"Oil men?"

"A bunch of junk scavengers, they want to pick up everything they see."

In the game, Judges represented by the players often experience conflicts with the oil men of Mechanic Religion, frequently over similar issues.

As Judges, the players received a piece of intelligence informing them of the sacrilegious appearance of a Spaceship Wreck within their territory, asking them what should be done about it.

And then? For players, the obvious response is to blast it to pieces! No questions asked!

However, the oil men would not agree. According to them, these spaceship wrecks might contain sacred relics of Omnissia, and they must investigate on board to check. If you won’t let me go, we won’t play with you guys anymore!

This inevitably irked the players. As a result, both parties had to enter the Spaceship Wreck together, encountering all kinds of strange things, and then—if they were lucky, they’d make it back, but if not, it’d mean a group wipeout.

Thus, players find oil men very annoying; a problem that could typically be solved simply by one cannon shot, and they have to go and make it more complicated!

After all, nobody knows exactly what you’d find inside a spaceship wreck. Genetic Thieves, mutants worshipping the Evil God, inexplicable Subspace Creatures. There might even be a Chaotic Demon lurking around...

If there were any oil men here, they would desperately try to prevent Duanmu Huai from desecrating the precious treasures within the spaceship wreck, but unfortunately Duanmu Huai doesn’t have any oil men under him, so nobody’s around to give him unwarranted opinions. Besides, to Duanmu Huai, a true treasure wouldn’t be shattered by a Macro Cannon. Something that could easily be blown into pieces, how could that be considered a treasure?

In his opinion, dealing with Spaceship Wrecks should be just like this, obliterated into wreckage, and then check if anything survives floating in the Star Sky. Only the surviving pieces could possibly be the good stuff.

"Alright, let’s continue forward."

As the bulk of the Spaceship Wreck exploded, the slight gravity present began to dissipate. Whether it was due to Aikute’s bombardment destroying the reactor or hitting the gravity generator, the gravity inside the warship was dropping. Duanmu Huai activated the magnetic device, stepping steadily through the corridor.

Then, he saw a faint light from an adjacent passage.

Could they be hiding here?

Just as Duanmu Huai was about to turn around, suddenly, Mary spoke up.

"Mr. Duanmu? What are you going to do?"

"I’m planning to check out the side passage over there."

"Side passage?"

Mary stuck out her head and looked carefully ahead.

"There’s no side passage, Mr. Duanmu, there’s only one path ahead."

"Oh?"

Hearing this, Duanmu Huai paused, then looked again——sure enough, the side he had seen before was just a cold steel wall, showing no sign of a passage at all.

"... Well, it seems I still have to rely on you to lead the way."

In the spaceship wreck, illusions were everywhere; every metal plate, every space here was soaked with the evil and curses of subspace, like the warship had once fallen into nuclear wastewater, with not a single clean spot left on it, emitting radiation everywhere.

Luckily, they still had Mary.

In the eyes of Duanmu Huai and Ogis, among others, it seemed as if the passages of the ship were changing constantly, one second there was a staircase ahead and the next, a crossroads appeared. But under Mary’s Golden Pupil’s gaze, these illusions seemed to never exist, as they continued forward, reaching the end of the corridor.

There was only an open elevator door here, and, as expected, no elevator inside. However, Duanmu Huai didn’t care about that; he stepped in, walked up the wall, and then continued upwards——then, Duanmu Huai suddenly stopped.

He glanced at the Bird Divination Tool, then made a gesture to Mary and Ogis, nodded at Medea, and silently changed direction, aiming towards a nearby wall. The Bird Divination Tool indicated life signals behind the wall, and not just one.

Duanmu Huai clenched his fist, faced the wall, and then swung hard!

"Boom!!!"

The iron wall exploded on cue, and Duanmu Huai strode in, followed by the sound of gunfire. Bullets hit Duanmu Huai’s Armor and then ricocheted off. Immediately after, a familiar voice rang out.

"Hey, cease fire, cease fire! It’s our own people!"

Duanmu Huai extended his hand to fan away the dust in front of him, only to see Shepperd’s younger brother holding a sniper rifle, standing behind several boxes. This place seemed to be a storage area, and hidden behind other boxes were several Star Alliance soldiers. It appeared that they had made this place their temporary base.

"Your Honor, the Judge, I truly didn’t expect to meet you here."

"Your sister asked me to come, it seems your caution has saved you."

"It’s not just caution, in fact, we’ve encountered a helper."

"A helper?"

Duanmu Huai furrowed his brow, while Shepperd’s younger brother nodded and gestured towards the side. Then, Duanmu Huai saw a woman emerging from the side, wearing Black Armor, with a tall and slender figure, long limbs, and sharp elven ears shaped like a shoehorn.

The instant he saw her, Duanmu Huai gripped his War Hammer tightly. Simultaneously, when the woman saw the Aquila and skull emblem on Duanmu Huai’s chest, she also paused briefly.

"Despicable Heretical Bastard!"

Duanmu Huai roared, lifting his War Hammer and smashing it towards the woman, who moved even faster. Almost in a blink she dodged behind Shepperd’s younger brother, drawing a dagger and placing it against his throat.

For a moment, both sides came to a standstill.
