Chapter 1384: Chapter 935: Chen’s Village Hosts a Banquet Featuring Whole Fish, Great Saint Sun Mourns the Loss of the Sea-Calming Needle_2
The little demon, upon hearing Sun Wukong’s shouting, was frightened and hurried back into the cave; it was not long before a demon stepped out from the cave, glaring at Sun Wukong and bellowed loudly.
"Are you Sun Wukong? I’ve indeed heard that the monk from the Eastern Tang Dynasty has subdued demons and vanquished evils all along his journey. I didn’t expect you to have actually come here. Where is your master? I would like to see if he really possesses the rumored ability to capture demons and consume evils!"
"Hmph!"
Hearing this, Sun Wukong was also greatly infuriated.
"To deal with a fairy like you, it doesn’t even take my master to personally act. Wait till I, old Sun, tidy you up!"
Having said that, he swung his staff and engaged the demon in battle.
Sun Wukong wielding a long staff and the demon clutching a long spear, both fought for thirty rounds without victory or defeat. The demon was secretly alarmed and couldn’t help but exclaim.
"Brilliant monkey! Brilliant monkey! Indeed, it’s the skills that brought chaos to the Celestial Palace!"
"You fairy, quite formidable too!"
On the other side, Sun Wukong was becoming increasingly angry the more they fought. After all, he knew if Duanmu Huai were in his place, not even thirty rounds would be needed; a single punch would have sent the demon to the Western Paradise. As a disciple, fighting for thirty rounds without a clear victor was somewhat embarrassing. Just at that moment, the demon suddenly swished his long spear, calling the lesser demons around to come to his aid. At this, the Great Saint Sun’s anger surged. With a flick of his staff, it transformed into thousands of iron rods and descended upon the fairies.
Witnessing this scene, the lesser demons were immediately scared out of their wits and scattered in all directions. The demon, however, let out a cold laugh, abruptly raised his hand, drew out a ring and exclaimed, "Catch it!" Suddenly, the Golden Cudgel was retracted in a flash and was captured by the ring. Seeing his weapon confiscated, Sun Wukong did not dare to linger in battle and hastily escaped on a cloud. The demon, watching Sun Wukong’s retreating figure, burst into loud laughter and returned to his abode with his troops.
Damnable demon indeed!
After Sun Wukong escaped, he was exasperated beyond measure. He had thought he would be able to subdue the demon easily, only to have his weapon snatched away unexpectedly. If he returned and Monk Tang saw him without his weapon and questioned him, wouldn’t that be a total loss of face? Therefore, the monkey’s eyes swiveled with an idea. The demon had recognized him as the Heavenly Great Sage who had caused mayhem in the Celestial Palace, presumably guessing that a notorious star had descended to the mortal world from the heavens. This matter must not trouble his master; he, old Sun, would resolve it by himself!
With this thought, Sun Wukong somersaulted towards the Southern Sky Gate.
Meanwhile, Duanmu Huai had finished eating and drinking, gotten out of bed after a long sleep, only to discover the monkey was missing, with no clue where he might have scampered off. However, unlike Monk Tang, who would panic at the disappearance of the monkey, Duanmu knew the monkey could cover a vast distance with one somersault—by this time, the monkey was probably off playing somewhere and would find his way back once he had his fun. So, Duanmu gathered his things and prepared to cross the river on his horse.
"Holy Monk,"
At this moment, the people from Chen’s Village also hurried over, and seeing Duanmu Huai intending to cross the river, they quickly tried to dissuade him.
"This river is both wide and deep. It would be better for us to gather funds to build a boat for you to cross. It wouldn’t be too late then. Besides, your disciple... "
"Probably went off to find a place to drink again. A mere Tongtian River is nothing to be concerned about. Just watch me."
Mounted on his horse, Duanmu Huai waved his hand dismissively and then clenched his fist, looking ahead, followed by a forceful swing.
"Dismiss!"
Accompanying Duanmu Huai’s roar, the Tongtian River was instantly split in two by him, with the surging water rushing forward but evaporating in an instant, disappearing into the air. And the downstream water dried up quickly as well, revealing the riverbed in mere moments.
Seeing this scene, the people of Chen’s Village were even more astonished and knelt down to pray loudly. As for Duanmu Huai, he simply waved his hand and then rode the White Dragon Horse leisurely across the Tongtian River. After Duanmu Huai reached the opposite bank, the river water that had been gushing without end finally swept across and flowed downstream once again. This led the villagers of Chen’s Village to erect a statue and offer incense to Duanmu Huai, hailing him as the "River Splitting Immortal." The villagers provided offerings for generations, but let’s not dwell on that for now.
Let’s talk about Duanmu Huai, who had just crossed the Tongtian River and continued onward. It wasn’t long before he saw Sun Wukong descending from the sky with a disheartened look, coming before Duanmu Huai and kneeling down.
"Master, your disciple is late, please forgive me!"
"No worries, have you been at the Dragon King’s place enjoying flowery wine again?"
"Ah........."
Hearing Duanmu Huai speak, Sun Wukong sighed and followed it with an annoyed glare at the sky. Withdrawing his gaze, he then bowed again to Duanmu Huai.
"Disciple is useless, please master, capture the demon!"
"Oh? What happened?"
It has to be said, seeing Sun Wukong in plight did catch Duanmu Huai by surprise, since there aren’t many in Journey to the West who can put Sun Wukong in such a situation.
"The thing is............"
Although ashamed, Sun Wukong had to bite the bullet and tell his story. He mentioned that when he went on a reconnaissance to Women’s Kingdom, he encountered a Demon Nest and decided to conquer the devil and eradicate evil. However, that demon had a treasure that ensnared Sun Wukong’s Golden Cudgel. Suspecting it was a deity descended from the stars, Sun Wukong went to the Celestial Palace to seek help from Nezha Third Prince. Despite Nezha’s multiple arms and heads, they still ended up having their weapons taken by the demon.
Sun Wukong, of course, would not let matters rest, so he went to the Celestial Palace again, seeking help from Fire Virtue True Monarch with the intention to set a fire. But the demon managed to ensnare all of Fire Virtue True Monarch’s fire dragons, fire horses, fire crows, fire mice, firearms, fire knives, fire bows, and fire arrows.
Furious to death, Sun Wukong then sought assistance from Water Virtue True Monarch to flood the fairy’s cave. Unfortunately, given the treacherous terrain, the water didn’t flood the cave but almost drowned the people instead. Infuriated, the obstinate Wukong transformed and burrowed into the cave, seizing an opportunity to grab his Golden Cudgel and free all of Fire Virtue True Monarch’s fiery arsenal, turning that den into a hazy smog before dusting off his hands and heading back.
With its lair burnt, the demon was beyond furious. Now Sun Wukong had reclaimed his weapon and came forth to battle, bringing along Water Virtue True Monarch, Fire Virtue True Monarch, the Thunder Fathers and Mothers, Pagoda Heavenly King, and Prince Nezha. But the demon pulled out that same hoop and snatched away all the Immortals’ treasures along with the Golden Cudgel.
Now everyone was dumbfounded. Sun Wukong was desperately anxious, and the other Immortals were equally alarmed. They had been invited by Sun Wukong to subdue the demon, but not only did they fail to conquer it, they even lost their own life’s possessions. They all turned to Sun Wukong demanding restitution. The Great Saint, too, vexed by the incessant pestering from the group of gods, was relieved to see Duanmu Huai approaching. Without caring for shame, he hurriedly shook off the group of Immortals, seeking help from his master.
After all, a disciple seeking help from his master is not a disgrace.
"Oh ho, there’s such a thing... oh, it does seem like there was something like that."
Having listened to Sun Wukong’s tale, Duanmu Huai nodded and pondered. He remembered indeed there was such a tricky demon, which, if he was not mistaken, ought to be Laozi’s Green Ox that had become an Immortal. This means...
There would be beef dishes!
Braised beef brisket, beef meatballs, marinated beef, potato stewed beef, beef bone soup, beef noodles... No, no, can’t think anymore, the drool is real.
Thinking this, Duanmu Huai also reached out to wipe his mouth.
"Let’s go, your master will get justice for you!"
