Chapter 1364: Chapter 920 Sun Wukong’s Transformation Angers the Greedy Monk Duanmu Huai Smashes the Guanyin Temple (Part 2)

But as the deep night fell, a few monks stealthily made their way to the side room. The leading monk stretched out his finger to pierce through the paper window and peered inside. He saw Duanmu Huai and the plump monk who was transformed by Sun Wukong, both sound asleep on the bed. Quickly, he gestured with his hands, took the stupefying incense from another monk, and blew it through the torn window.

"Will this work? That sturdy fellow isn’t easy to deal with."

"Don’t worry."

The leading monk whispered to himself, full of self-satisfaction.

"Once this stupefying incense is out, even a few hundred pounds pig wouldn’t utter a sound. Hurry, take the knife and get ready to make a move."

The monks muttered among themselves, waiting outside the room for a moment. Then the leading monk quietly opened the door, bringing several people with cleavers as they entered. Soon, two men approached Duanmu Huai, raised the cleavers in their hands, aiming at Duanmu Huai’s neck and chest, and then chopped down viciously!

"Clang!"

The cleaver struck Duanmu Huai’s body, emitting a sound as if striking metal. Then, the previously closed-eyed Duanmu Huai suddenly opened his eyes wide with fury, staring down the two men with a roar.

"Despicable scum, die!"

The monks were so scared that their souls nearly left their bodies at this sight. Before they could regain their senses, they saw Duanmu Huai leap up from the bed. With one swift motion, he grabbed the heads of the two monks, and with a powerful slam, turned their bald heads into a shattered mess like broken eggshells. They didn’t even manage to scream before they expired.

Afterward, Duanmu Huai lifted his arms and hurled the corpses forcefully, directly smashing into the third monk, crushing him into a pulp.

The last monk, seeing the situation turn dire, turned to flee, but just as he turned around, he saw the door, that was wide open, close itself without any wind. Turning back, he saw Sun Wukong had revealed his true form, sitting on the bed and staring at him with a mischievous smile.

"Merciful Heroes, spare my life! Merciful Heroes, spare my life!!"

This monk was quick-witted, immediately kneeling to the ground and desperately kowtowing to the two men.

"This humble monk has an eighty-year-old mother and a child of six at home..."

"Since when do monks have children?"

"This humble monk fathered a child before taking the vows..."

"Enough talk!"

Duanmu Huai grabbed the monk’s head, lifting him straight up.

"Who would’ve thought that this temple was a den of thieves! You monks, what are you trying to do? Confess everything to me!"

"Merciful Heroes, spare my life! It was all the abbot’s idea, he coveted your precious kasaya and wanted to claim it for himself. So he sent us here to..."

"To rob and take lives?"

"Yes, exactly... It wasn’t our idea, Heroes, it was all the abbot’s!"

"Oh really."

Listening to the monk’s plea, Duanmu Huai narrowed his eyes.

"Then I must ask you, you seem quite skilled at this, surely this isn’t your first time, is it?"

"This... not..."

"Speak, or I’ll crush your head into pieces as well!"

"It truly wasn’t our idea, Heroes!"

Feeling the growing pressure of Duanmu Huai’s Iron Palm and even hearing his own skull creaking, the monk turned pale with fear.

"It was all the abbot’s idea! Whenever outsiders came visiting, he’d use the pretext of showing off treasures to gauge their worth. If the visitors had any rare and precious items, Righteous would then send us to kill them and rob them. After all, this place is remote, most visitors are from afar, so there’s little fear of an investigation..."

"Oh really, so this temple..."

"Is indeed maintained with the money of those victims. He claims it makes the hall impressive, so that no one would be suspicious..."

Well, this old monk sure knows how to play the game.

Hearing the monk’s answer, Duanmu Huai sneered inwardly. He couldn’t deny the truth to those words. If you run a dilapidated temple, people would naturally be suspicious of the abbot, wondering if he might be a demon or a bandit. Vigilance would be high.

But if your temple is grand and impressive, it immediately reassures visitors, doesn’t it? Most would not suspect any foul play, their guard would be lowered, and they would be easy to deceive.

Of course, for Duanmu Huai, this was all minor league. Just look at those famous temples on Spirit Mountain that really rake in the cash – a prayer there might cost you two kidneys and it’s all legal trade.

If Buddha had any spirit, he would’ve struck down these bastards long ago.

Oh, Buddha’s probably too busy sculpting his golden body to have time for this.

Well, the whole world’s the same, isn’t it?

Duanmu Huai snapped back to reality, glaring fiercely at the monk.

"Where’s the abbot?"

"The abbot... he’s waiting in the main hall for news..."

Just as the monk said, the sharp-faced abbot was in the main hall, holding a kasaya that glinted brilliantly, completely fascinated. He’d touch it now and then, then look towards the entrance, bend down to caress it once more, then check the entrance again – like a drug addict paranoid about a police raid.

But, unfortunately, what arrived wasn’t the police.

"Boom!"

As the abbot was engrossed with the kasaya, unable to let go, Duanmu Huai suddenly kicked open the doors of the main hall and strode in. The sight of the fierce-looking Duanmu Huai terrified the old abbot, who scrambled backward while clutching the kasaya to his chest.

"What is the meaning of this?"

"Pah, you bald-headed crook!"

Duanmu Huai glared at the abbot fiercely, and tossed the monk, who looked like a mangy dead dog, onto the floor.

"I knew you were no good, daring to murder and rob? You had the audacity to come after your grandpa? You deserve to die!"

"...Mercy, strong man, please have mercy!!"

Watching Duanmu Huai approaching, the old abbot also hurriedly prostrated on the ground, ceaselessly crying out.

"I was forced! This used to be a small temple, but then these bandits took a fancy to it, and forced me to help them murder and rob. They shaved their heads and became monks here, pressuring me into complicity. If I refused, they would chop off my limbs and feed me to the tigers—I had no choice...!"

"You senile old bastard, spouting nonsense!"

The monk Duanmu Huai had thrown to the ground to feign death, upon hearing this, could no longer pretend and hastily jumped up.

"We were proper monks, and it was clearly you who dragged us into this life of crime! You forced us to kill, made us your accomplices, and now you even have the nerve to frame us?"

Meanwhile, the old abbot continued to plead his case loudly on the ground.

"Injustice, such grave injustice! I, an old man, without the strength to shoulder burdens or lift weights, how could I possibly threaten you all?"

"Mercy, strong man, don’t listen to his drivel!"

At this, the monk also began to cry out indignantly.

"Don’t be fooled by this bandit monk who appears old and decrepit; in reality, he is already over two hundred and fifty years old! He has conspired with the nearby Black Bear Monster; we ordinary people are no match for that demon..."

"Oh ho..."

Hearing this, Duanmu Huai narrowed his eyes, and now even Sun Wukong was leaning in.

"Master, what should we do about this?"

"What to do?"

Facing Sun Wukong’s question, Duanmu Huai snorted coldly.

"None of them are any good, break all their legs, and when day breaks, bring them to the authorities!"

Upon hearing Duanmu Huai’s reply, both the old abbot and the monk flashed a fierce look in their eyes and then suddenly leaped up.

"Brothers, let’s get them!"

With their angry roar, the windows and doors of the great hall burst open and the monks, wielding weapons, rushed in, shouting and charging towards Duanmu Huai and Sun Wukong.

"Leave it to you."

To Duanmu Huai, these mere mortals weren’t even worth laying a hand on.

"Just break their legs."

"Understood!"

Sun Wukong, too, took out his Wishful Golden Cudgel and commenced a thorough beating of the group of monks before him, leaving them crying for their fathers and mothers. In a moment, each and every one of them was rolling on the ground clutching their legs, unable to stand.

Meanwhile, Duanmu Huai took large strides to the old monk’s side, snatched the kasaya, then gave the old abbot a chilling stare.

"Humph, a monk committing murder and robbery, you play quite the game. I’ll be interested to see what abilities you have left when we get to the County Government Office!"

"..."

At Duanmu Huai’s words, the old abbot’s face turned ashen, and he collapsed on the spot.

"Huuu—!"

However, just at that moment, suddenly a black wind swept across the ground, causing the lamps around to flicker. Then a burly man, covered in long hair, dropped from the sky, placing himself between the old monk and Duanmu Huai.

"Black Bear King!"

Seeing the hairy giant before him, the monk yelled as if he had seen a savior.

"Save me, Black Bear King!"

"Hehe, old friend from Golden Pool, you’re quite lucky. If I hadn’t whimsically decided to check up on you, I wouldn’t have known such a huge incident occurred."

The burly man laughed heartily, and as he spoke, the old abbot also felt a surge of hope and stood up once more.

"Black Bear King, these two have a fine quality kasaya, a top-notch treasure!"

"Oh? Is that so?"

At this revelation, the burly man’s eyes swiveled, staring at the kasaya in Duanmu Huai’s hand, also gleaming with desire.

"To think there’s such a treasure here, let me..."

"Get the fuck out."

However, before the burly man could finish his sentence, Duanmu Huai smacked his palm sharply against the burly man’s head, plastering him against the wall and bursting his skull. The burly man’s body convulsed once before collapsing to the ground, transforming into a headless, huge black bear, dead on the spot.

"A black bear, huh? Guess there are bear paws to sample now."

Duanmu Huai glanced at the black bear before withdrawing his gaze, turning back towards the old abbot who had never imagined that his comrade and brother, the Black Bear Monster, would be killed by Duanmu Huai in the blink of an eye. He sat there, stunned, and upon seeing Duanmu Huai approaching, let out a scream and turned to run.

But just as the abbot rose, Duanmu Huai stomped down, snapping his dry, old legs in half, leaving the old abbot writhing in pain on the ground cuddling his legs. Duanmu Huai tucked away the kasaya, coldly watching his pitiful state, devoid of any expression.

"Master? What do we do now?"

"Tie them all up, take them to the nearby County Government Office to report to the officials!"

"Right!"
