Chapter 60: Chapter 60 - Griffin

In the distance, a group of Griffins approached.

Five of them.

Their wings sliced through the air with ferocity.

Their presence radiated power, ranging from Tier 3 to Tier 5. At the center of the formation soared the largest one.

Unmistakably the leader... a Tier 5.

Lucien moved quickly.

He opened a hidden compartment at the back of the chariot and there it was.

His eyes widened.

"A bolt-action rifle?"

It was something he recognized yet it wasn’t quite the same.

The rifle was long and sleek, with a solid dark oak stock and a polished steel barrel.

Intricate runes shimmered faintly along its surface. A soft pulse of mana flickered within the trigger mechanism almost like the weapon was alive.

Lucien lifted it carefully.

Its weight was perfect, balanced for control and steady aim. The iron sights aligned with clean precision.

His lips curled into an eager grin.

Excitement surged through him.

This... was going to be fun.

"Uncle Max! I’ll handle the monsters. How do I use this?"

Maxim gave the approaching Griffins a glance... then looked back at Lucien.

After a brief pause, he nodded. He was amused by Lucien’s eagerness.

"It should work," he said with a small smile. "Use mana cores as bullets. Insert one directly into the chamber. Wait for the runes to light up. Aim at the enemy and when you’re ready... pull the trigger."

Lucien’s eyes glowed. The mechanism was nearly identical to what he knew.

And mana cores? He had a mountain of them.

Without hesitation, he pulled one from the INVENTORY and slotted it into the chamber.

The runes on the barrel pulsed to life, signaling the weapon was ready.

Lucien stepped forward, positioning himself at the front of the chariot. The Griffins loomed closer in the sky with their wings outstretched. Their screeches pierced the wind.

He took aim.

Then...

Boom!

A thunderous blast erupted from the rifle, nearly startling him.

A focused beam shot out like a bullet, cutting through the air.

But... it missed.

Lucien narrowed his eyes, quickly reloaded... and fired again.

Boom!

Another miss.

This time, the Griffins responded with fury. The leader let out a piercing screech and the whole group suddenly shifted formation, diving straight toward them.

Maxim chuckled under his breath.

’Looks like my nephew’s about to taste frustration,’ he thought.

He flexed his fingers subtly, mana crackling at his fingertips. He was ready to intervene if necessary. But for now, he stayed still, observing.

Frustrated, Lucien activated Cram Session... and immediately copied Perfect Calculation.

The world changed.

Lucien closed his eyes.

Velocity drift. Angular momentum. Wind vector cubed over distance squared... even his heartbeat became part of the equation.

He inhaled deeply... then held his breath.

With Perfect Calculation, there was no room for instinct.

Only numbers.

Only logic.

Only the cold precision of math waiting to be solved.

The world around him became a living formula.

Lucien opened his eyes, calm and focused.

He pulled the trigger.

Boom!

The shot connected.

A Griffin shrieked and plummeted from the sky, crashing hard into the earth.

The leader roared with a sharp cry. The others shrieked back in anger and bloodthirst.

Then they surged forward with their wings slicing through the air like blades.

The leader held back, watching in the distance.

Then Lucien remembered...

The drops.

His Auto-Collect range was only three meters now.

If he wanted the loot, he’d have to let them get closer.

"Uncle Max, I’ll hit them once they’re close. Please don’t interfere yet." Lucien said as he sensed that Maxim was ready to act.

Then he focused.

Lucien began calculating.

How fast the Griffins were flying.

How many seconds until they entered his Auto-Collect radius.

And the precise timing to trigger a perfect shot.

He raised the rifle again.

Calm.

Patient.

Like a hunter waiting for prey to walk into the trap.

He exhaled slowly... then pulled the trigger.

Boom!

One Griffin fell instantly.

He reloaded, recalculated and fired again.

Boom!

Another hit.

One Griffin got dangerously close but Lucien didn’t panic. He adjusted... then pulled the trigger.

Boom!

A clean kill.

"Headshot!" he grinned, proud of his shot.

As the Griffins were slain, their bodies vanished instantly.

All of them were now stored neatly in his INVENTORY.

Maxim who watching quietly from the side, narrowed his eyes with a curious glint.

Lucien looked into the distance.

The leader Griffin was trying to retreat.

"Uncle Max, can we chase the leader?"

Maxim nodded, raising one hand.

Wind surged around them as he cast a binding spell, locking the air around the fleeing creature to halt its escape.

The Wind Chariot led by the Wyvern shifted direction and charged forward.

Lucien took aim one last time. He waited for the Wind Chariot to get close enough then...

Boom!

The final shot pierced the air and the Tier 5 Griffin was killed. Then... its body vanished too.

Another clean hit.

Lucien turned around with a wide grin on his face from the thrill of victory.

Then he noticed Maxim’s eyes...

Narrowed with suspicion, quietly watching him.

Lucien cleared his throat and quickly straightened his posture.

A nervous chuckle escaped as he faked a couple of coughs.

"Uncle Max, I know you probably have a lot of questions but..."

Maxim raised a hand, chuckling as he cut him off.

"Say no more, nephew," he said calmly. "Even with Perfect Calculation, I can’t figure you out. I can’t calculate where you’re getting all these strange items or abilities."

He smiled, but there was a glint of something deeper in his gaze.

"But I do know this. Whatever power you hold, only you in this world possess it. Everyone has secrets, Lucien. And it’s not something bad."

Lucien’s eyes shimmered softly.

He was grateful because that meant he didn’t need to explain.

Of course, Maxim wasn’t telling everything either.

There was another used for Perfect Calculation. One he rarely used.

It could predict nearly anything... but the price was steep.

And he knew... trying to fully understand Lucien through that lens came at a terrible cost.

The one time he attempted it, he had to cut it off almost instantly.

His mana was drained like water into a black hole. His body trembled. The calculation spiraled out of control as if the universe itself rejected the answer.

It wasn’t just dangerous... it felt like staring into something forbidden.

And what he glimpsed once told him enough.

Lucien must never be angered... or worse, made into an enemy.

Lucien smiled and steered the conversation elsewhere.

"Are Griffin bodies valuable?"

He was genuinely excited. In the dungeon, monster corpses melted away before he could collect them. But wild monsters? Their bodies stayed intact.

Maxim nodded. "You could say that. Every part can be harvested. The feathers, skin, bones, blood, even the organs. All valuable materials. But handling them properly takes skill."

Lucien’s eyes lit up again.

Maxim then guided the Wyvern Chariot down, landing near the spot where the slain Griffin had fallen earlier.

Initially, he thought they’d have to leave the body behind. It was far too large and cumbersome to bring along.

But with Lucien’s oversized Item Box, it would be a complete waste to leave such a valuable corpse behind.

Without a word, Maxim glanced at the remains then at Lucien.

Lucien caught the gesture and gave a grateful smile.

"Thank you, Uncle Max."

Maxim gave a faint nod.

The journey continued.

Lucien looked through the drops.

***

Common:

• Griffin Feather - can be used as material for magical quills

• Fresh Griffin Blood - can be used as ink for talismans or magic formations

Uncommon:

• Griffin Meat - requires special cooking to unlock its effects. Grants a significant stamina boost when prepared properly.

• Sharp Beak - durable material ideal for crafting short blades or daggers.

Rare:

• Crown Feather - the largest feather atop a Griffin leader’s head. Embodies the aura of leadership and enhances charisma.

Lucien smiled in satisfaction.

He not only secured the drops but also obtained the intact bodies.

’Double rewards. That’s efficient,’ he thought proudly.

Turning to Maxim, a question came to mind.

"Uncle Max... There seem to be fewer monsters near the borders. Is there a reason for that?"

Maxim paused briefly before answering.

"Monsters tend to gather in areas with high mana concentration," he explained. "Most of those areas lie within the Central Plains. There are some creatures here at the borders but far fewer by comparison."

Lucien nodded in understanding.

Maxim continued, "Also, dungeons are less common along the borders. Dungeon breaks rarely occur out here. In the Central Plains, however, there are so many dungeons that some go undiscovered until it’s too late. When a dungeon break occurs, monsters spill out and often turn the surrounding area into a temporary habitat."

Lucien absorbed every word.

It made sense.

’It’s a good thing my dungeon only has slimes...’

But then a chill crept down his spine as his thoughts drifted to the third floor.

He shivered slightly and shook his head, pushing the memory aside.

Lucien sat back down as the chariot continued its journey.

The road ahead was still long and for now, there was little to do but wait.

Boredom crept in.

To pass the time, he opened his inventory and browsed through the drops.

His eyes fell on the Crown Feather. The rare drop from the Griffin leader.

Curious, he pulled it out.

The moment it touched his hand, the feather began to glow. It radiated a soft, golden light.

Then, without warning, it floated up in front of him.

It shimmered once... then dissolved into light and surged into his chest.

A familiar chime rang in his ears.

[Ting!]

[Congratulations: Your Charisma has reached 100]

Lucien blinked.

"Well... it’s about time this happened."

Another notification followed instantly.

***

<Achievement: Born to Lead>

<Reached 100 charisma points>

<Reward: Title: "The Chosen Sovereign">

***

"Eh?"

He clicked the new title.

***

<The Chosen Sovereign>

<Description: Grants the Presence of a Sovereign.>

***

Lucien’s eyes widened.

"What the—?!"

He stared into space for a moment.

"Presence of a Sovereign? What does that even mean?"

Whatever it was, it didn’t sound minor.
