Chapter 897: Chapter 14 Possible Collaborators

"Jealous, are you, Doris?" Flare turned to Doris, and in the instant her gaze shifted, she transformed from a blushing maiden to a mature queen. As she faced Doris, the Elf queen regained her innate dignity and elegance. With an effortless sweep of her majestic eyes across Doris’s face, she spoke indifferently, "Since you have different information, let’s hear it. You wouldn’t interrupt our conversation just to speak without purpose, would you?"

"Alright, alright, I shouldn’t have said you were flirting; that should be enough, right?" Doris covered her mouth with a light laugh, every move teeming with the merfolk’s alluring charm. Their natural enchantment was so overwhelmingly potent that when Doris unrestrainedly unleashed her aura, all the men present, despite being demigods, struggled to resist it, each discreetly shifting their gazes elsewhere. As for Prince Nicholas, the weakest of them, his face turned beet red, and he simply closed his eyes tightly, not daring to open them. Thankfully, in response to Pannis’s resigned sigh, Doris promptly came to her senses, retracting her race-based talent, and chuckled, "Let’s talk serious business then. In truth, it’s not just you and that ’Dillie’ of yours who can enter; there are others who can accompany you as well."

"Others?" Pannis raised an eyebrow, puzzled, "Special people as well? Who exactly?"

"You know them quite well, and you, little Elf, you also know them," Doris said with a mysterious wink, her gaze drifting to the silently seated girls of the adventure team, "Of course, it’s them. Who else could it be?"

"You’re joking, right? Sister," Pannis’s complexion darkened instantly, and he said with a gloomy expression, "This is not something to joke about. On the way there, even demigods might die, and it will be even more dangerous for them. Besides, how could they possibly be immune to Danacus’s Soul Assault? There’s no reason at all."

"I never joke," Doris said with a calm demeanor, "and I certainly wouldn’t treat such matters as a joke."

"That statement itself is a joke," Flare rolled her eyes secretly, speaking irritably, "Don’t think that just because you say it so seriously, others can’t see right through you."

"Well, my news is indeed no joke," Doris said earnestly, "The five of them can indeed safely delve into that area without being affected at all."

"And the reason?" Pannis’s demeanor showed no sign of softening as he spoke sternly, "Such a dangerous decision can’t be made on mere conjecture; there has to be sufficient reason to convince others."

"There is indeed a reason," Doris pointed at Lina, saying, "Let’s start with her. Lina was acknowledged by Earth’s Praise as its master and has achieved complete harmony with it. Her soul is intertwined with Earth’s Praise, and unless she dies, their connection cannot be severed. To attack her soul is akin to attacking Earth’s Praise; in other words, it’s like striking at High Priest Denia’s will. Although Danacus is also one of the chief deities, in terms of Divine Power, he falls far short of the ancient and magnificent primeval Deity, Denia. It’s impossible for him to break through the Divine Power of High Priest Denia, especially since those Soul Assaults are unfocused attacks intended for everyone. With that in mind, it’s even less likely."

"However, Denia didn’t infuse much Divine Power into Earth’s Praise," Pannis’s expression softened somewhat, but he still shook his head and said, "I’m afraid such an amount of Divine Power might not be enough to resist Danacus’s Soul Assault."

"That’s because you all fundamentally misunderstand the will of the Deities," said Doris, the High Priest of the Storm God and the earthly extension of his will. She was the most qualified among those present to speak these words, and no one could refute her. After all, not even Queen Flare could compare to her understanding of the will of Deities. Thus, Doris looked around the assembly and, with a scoff, stated, "The conflict between Deities is not a matter of how much Divine Power they possess. I could explain the details, but you wouldn’t understand. However, there’s one thing you all should comprehend: Earth’s Praise, this Divine Artifact, is different from most artifacts—it signifies Lord Denia’s will. Lina, the child recognized by Earth’s Praise, could easily be killed by a mighty enemy, but it would be impossible to easily attack her soul. As I said earlier, to destroy her soul would be akin to destroying Earth’s Praise, and to destroy Earth’s Praise would be like trying to defy Lord Denia’s will—an act not even the Storm God, who is a Primal Deity like Lord Denia, could achieve, much less Danacus. Moreover, all that I have said has been personally endorsed by my Lord and his close confidant, the God of Wisdom and Knowledge, Lord Weston. We can thus consider that Lina is absolutely safe within that Death Zone. Do you understand now? Or should I say, do you believe now?"

"Hmm, I guess I understand," Pannis scratched his head, still somewhat perplexed but having grasped a bit, so he awkwardly apologized, "Also, sister, I’m sorry."

"A brother who shows his temper is a real brother, isn’t he? You weren’t real before at all," Doris chuckled, deftly dissolving Pannis’s inner guilt, "After talking about Lina, let’s talk about Vivian."

"Oh? Me?" Vivian had been habitually daydreaming behind Pannis and was startled when she heard her name. She looked up in confusion and asked, "I can too?"

"Of course, you all greatly underestimate the gifts of the Deities," Doris shook her head disapprovingly and said, "Did you really think that Lord Denia’s gift to Vivian was just to preserve her will while you were treating her?"

"Er... that..." Pannis’s scratching became more frantic as he smiled awkwardly and said, "Is there another effect?"

"Sigh," Doris let out an exasperated sigh and shook her head, "I don’t feel like explaining anymore. Just remember that Lord Denia’s gift is meant to be placed deep within her soul to protect it. Essentially, its function in the Death Zone is nearly the same as that of Earth’s Praise."

"How do you even know about Lord Denia’s gift, High Priestess?" Catherine asked in surprise, "We’ve hardly mentioned it to anyone."

"I told you when we first met," Doris replied with a smile, "Don’t forget that Lord Weston’s techniques of Observation and Prophecy are the strongest among the Deities. With Observation to look into the past and Prophecy to foresee the future, his dual gaze upon the present, Lord Weston’s wisdom can now see through all the truths of the world. Do you think there is anything that could be hidden from him?" (To be continued.
