Chapter 895: Chapter 12 Changes
As one of the oldest buildings in the City of Knowledge, the Central Hall is called a hall, but it serves more than just that function. Besides having a large conference hall that can accommodate three thousand people, there are also several small meeting rooms around it, available for rent by those in need, and the owners, of course, are the adventurers’ Guild that built the city.
Fifteen attendees, including the five girls from Nellie’s adventure team, each had their own seats. Although the five girls were neither Demigods nor representatives of any faction, they were deeply involved in the issues to be discussed and had ample reason and sufficient qualifications to attend the meeting. Moreover, through the channels of the Sea Race, other Demigods had vaguely understood the special identity of Catherine regarding the wisdom of the goddess. Furthermore, with Pannis there, even the Demigods with relatively tense relations wouldn’t complain, especially since the Demigods present actually got along quite well—except, of course, for the Thief whose true face no one knew.
"Actually, the situation now is very troublesome." Once seated, Flare wasted no time and immediately began on the topic, "The goddess has already lost her sensory abilities over part of the core area of the Forest of Death. Therefore, even the goddess cannot know what exactly is occurring inside, let alone what has happened specifically. However, the Oracle indicates that the area is indeed filled with the Divine Power wielded by Danacus, which also confirms the information Kyle received: Danacus’ lair is right there. Kyle, where exactly did you get this information?"
"It was conveyed to me by Philarx with his life." Pannis’s gaze narrowed, and he spoke softly, "As for how he obtained that information, that was his own secret. Let the source of the message become a mystery with his demise. Since the Oracle has already confirmed the truth of the message, there’s no need to inquire further."
"Then I understand now." Flare considerately did not press further. In fact, about everything that had happened in the Kingdom of Mages, Muir had encountered Flare and reported to her on his way back to the Elven Forest, so she was already clear about the real situation with the Sands of Time. However, since Muir didn’t know what had transpired between Pannis and Philarx alone, Flare did not know why Pannis would suddenly throw out such precise information. Now that she knew it was Philarx who had informed Pannis, understanding Philarx’s personality, she could guess some of it, and thus merely nodded slightly, "Was the potion recipe also from him?"
"Of course." Pannis said with a bitter smile, "That kind of formula, which could almost be deemed absurd yet somehow produces effects, who else but him could think of something like that? Well, I misspoke, he is no longer among the living either."
Flare also looked somewhat distressed and sighed, "Although Philarx conveyed the message with his life, it seems now, the situation has changed. His message might have no real use, including those potions."
"What happened?" In the recent half a month, Antuin had been doing his best, mobilizing almost all of the Mage Guild’s resources to analyze Philarx’s potion and make copies, hoping to produce more potions quickly so that more powerful individuals could enter the core of the Forest of Death, so he couldn’t help but ask urgently upon hearing Flare’s words, "What kind of changes have occurred? Didn’t the King’s Court recently send a message, saying they were preparing to have Muladi come over to help me replicate the potions?"
"Yes, the original plan was indeed like that." Flare said helplessly, "But just before I left, the situation changed. You all know about the Hovering Woods, Lake of Termination, and the Burial Grounds, right? The safest path leading to the core of the Forest of Death, yet till today, very few have managed to pass through, thus, it’s also considered the most dangerous path."
"Of course." Although Flare hadn’t yet elaborated, Pannis’s complexion had already soured, and he asked in a deep voice, "You’re not saying that the range of these three areas..."
"Your reaction is always so quick, Kyle." Flare’s eyes held a gentle gaze as she looked at Pannis, "Exactly, starting from a few days ago, the entire region occupied by Danacus’s power has turned into that state."
The expressions of the several Demigods present changed, even the always jovial Thief leaned forward unconsciously. None of the Demigods present had personally visited that terrifying area, but they had at least heard of its reputation. It had to be said, that place was indeed the safest yet also the most dangerous pathway.
"Inside those three areas, there are almost no magical beasts present, both strong and weak." Pannis explained in a low voice to the girls who were not familiar with the area, "However, it is filled with a large number of bizarre creatures, much more bizarre than the Elemental Semi-creatures we encountered on the icy plains. Some of them are just three-dimensional shadows, some appear as if torn into pieces and then reassembled, some are merely flat, while others look like various geometric figures put together. There are many more whose appearances are completely indescribable. Of course, these monsters won’t attack unless you approach them, so they are a lot safer compared to the magical beasts in other areas. However, nearly everyone who has ventured deep into that place has died, because it is filled with unexplained attacks targeting the soul. No matter how powerful a person is, they are as vulnerable as an infant with no defenses against such attacks. Even a Demigod, if unable to resist that continuous assault, will have their soul ripped apart and then transformed into one of those bizarre creatures, forever roaming those three areas. If you say the Forest of Death is a cemetery for Demigods, then those three areas are where the gravestones cluster most densely. For thousands of years, at least a hundred Demigods, too confident in their own abilities, have ventured into that region, but not a single one has returned."
"Kyle is right." Flare nodded, "Thinking about it now, that unexplained Soul Assault is probably caused by the remnants of Danacus’s Divine Power. Surely, only such a mighty god could create such a vast Death Zone with just the remnants of his Divine Power."
"So, could it be supposed that?" Catherine asked, "With the three areas expanding, does it mean that Danacus is getting closer to awakening?"
"That is just one possibility. The current information we have cannot confirm this speculation." Flare shook her head, "Because the expansion of the three areas only suggests that the Death God’s Divine Power is slowly recovering, not that his will is awakening. That is the only piece of good news."(To be continued. If you like this work, you are welcome to recommend votes and monthly votes at qidian.com, your support is my greatest motivation.
