Chapter 892: Chapter 9 Pest Number One
The elf delegation’s deer carriage procession slowly moved along Yarran Avenue, which ran right through the middle of the Temple District, passing through the Gate of Faith that separated the west and central areas, and turning into Kate Commercial Street in the central business district. After a few turns in the business district, they would finally arrive at the Central Hall in the heart of the business district, one of the few buildings not used for commercial purposes. Along the way, no matter where they went, there were always groups of idle residents stopping to watch, their romantic and free nature fully displayed as many waved banners and ribbons vigorously on both sides of the street.
"Your Majesty the Queen, I love you!" "Your Majesty, you are my idol." "Majesty, your beautiful face haunts my mind day and night. Please allow me to become your most loyal follower, to crawl at your feet every day." "Are you an idiot? Have you ever seen Her Majesty? If not, how can her face possibly haunt your mind?" "Can’t I imagine it? You haven’t seen the Queen either, yet you also idolize her." "That’s because I am captivated by the legendary elegance of Her Majesty, not like some idiot like you."
Thus, it wasn’t long before two irrational young men, visibly enraged, were kicked and shoved away by the city guards. It seemed the captains of the city guards had anticipated such occurrences, deploying personnel from nearby districts, and most of the guards were middle-aged or older, appearing like the fathers or even grandfathers of these overly energetic youths. Even if the guards roughed them up, kicking their rear ends and slapping their heads, or even chasing them with sticks, the young men didn’t dare to argue and could only laugh off the blows before sneaking away, ensuring no real conflicts arose.
As the procession drew closer to the center of the business district, the number of spectators on both sides of the road also increased, primarily consisting of tourists instead of local residents. One would think that as they approached the Central Hall, known to be gathering several demigods, the city guards would feel more at ease; however, the closer they got to the Central Hall, the more anxious the guards became. By the final stretch, hundreds of city guards were no longer focusing on maintaining public order, but were closely guarding the procession and cavalry, as though they were providing them protection. The Elf Forest Guards looked at this group of city guards with bewilderment, not understanding why they were becoming increasingly nervous over time, but knowing it was well-intended, they let it be. What puzzled the elves even more was not only the tense expressions of these guards but also the way several squad leaders were constantly whispering to each other and occasionally gesturing to issue some commands.
"Why hasn’t he shown up yet?" "I’d like to know that too." "It doesn’t make any sense. By all logic, that person should definitely appear." "Could it be that he’s just not in the city?" "Impossible, absolutely impossible, someone saw him just yesterday, wandering the streets." "So what’s the holdup?" "Are you kidding? Even if someone were about to kill him with a sword, he wouldn’t miss such an opportunity." "Right, with all the beautiful Elf ladies around, how could he not show up?" "I hate this feeling, knowing he will appear, yet he just doesn’t come, keeping us on edge all the time. I actually hope he shows up soon." "I agree, I’m actually hoping for him to appear now. It’s too uncomfortable hanging in suspense like this." "Go report to the captain. If needed, let’s deploy more forces. I refuse to believe we can’t stop him with so many of us here." "Alright, hold on a bit longer. I’ll go report."
The conversation among these Silver Rank professionals, albeit in whispers, did not escape the ears of the Gold Rank Forest Guards. Watching a city guard squad leader hurry off, disappearing into the crowd, they couldn’t fathom what could make these people so nervous in their own city, especially with several demigods nearby, so they could only look at their fellow city guards with puzzled expressions. The city guards caught under their gaze broke into a cold sweat and awkwardly laughed, saying, "Ha, ha, nothing to worry about, just some folks in the Holy City are exceptionally passionate, ha ha ha, that’s right, just too passionate. Don’t mind it, don’t mind it, there won’t be any danger, ha ha ha."
With less than two kilometers left to the Central Hall, the squad leader responsible for reporting sped through the crowded streets, taking shortcuts through several alleys, and arrived at the now crowd-free Central Hall in just a few minutes. From a distance, he saw the senior captain waiting at the hall’s steps, as well as several important figures above on the steps. The squad leader, without staring too much at the powerful demigods, ran straight to Captain Ayrland and said breathlessly, "Captain Ayrland, huff huff, the public order maintenance troops request reinforcements."
"Hmm? What’s wrong?" One of the top professionals in charge of the city guard, Gold Rank Captain Ayrland was puzzled and asked, "What seems to be the problem? Why so tense?"
"Nothing yet, but everyone is very tense." The squad leader said with a wry smile, "It’s Target Number One on high alert, the same nuisance everyone has been worrying about. He hasn’t shown up yet, and we’re worried he’s planning something big to disturb the guests, so we hope to mobilize more forces for precaution."
"Oh~~~~" Ayrland suddenly realized, with a sly smile on his face, he stealthily glanced at the crowd above the stone steps and patted the squad leader on the shoulder, saying, "You’ve done a good job, but you can relax now. Nuisance Number One won’t be disturbing the guests this time. Rest assured, I can guarantee that."
"Really?" The squad leader wasn’t doubting Ayrland’s promise, but was so surprised it was unbelievable, and forgetting all about the city guard’s protocol, he turned and ran, "That’s great, thank you, Captain! I’ll go and tell everyone the good news, hahaha."
"Tsk tsk." Ayrland turned back and spread his hands towards someone on the stone steps, making a helpless gesture.
"Nuisance Number One, what a stupid name. Who is so unlucky to get saddled with such a code name?" Pannis said sarcastically as she pulled candy from a bag and stuffed it into her mouth from above the stone steps, "He must have committed many heinous crimes."
"Yeah." Odin sighed helplessly beside her, saying in despair, "It’s really too unfortunate."(To be continued.
