Chapter 888: Chapter 5 News of the Elf Delegation

"Hmm?" The two ladies exchanged a meaningful look, their eyes filled with intense wariness. Catherine spoke as if nothing was amiss, "An elven emissary group? Since it’s an emissary group, it appears they’ve come in an official capacity, right?"

"Yes, official capacity," Pannis nodded and said, "But actually, it’s not that formal, at least not at this stage. It’s merely representing the elves and the three major cities of the Neutral Land to conduct some negotiations. In a few days, the emissary group will return the same way and attend the official racial conference in Neville of the Neville Federation. At that time, both Neville and Falar, as well as all human forces from the Neutral Land, will be in attendance."

"What about the Kingdom of Mages?" Having just left Butte not long ago, Catherine was particularly sensitive to Butte’s movements and was surprised not to hear Butte’s name mentioned. She asked with curiosity, "Is Butte not participating?"

"Er, they’re participating too. However, it’s become customary not to regard the tower mages as humans," Pannis shrugged and said mockingly, "Ever since the War of Gods, they have broken away from all forces. Since their Highland Founding, they no longer consider themselves human, and other races also see them as a separate and special group, distinctly from humans. So in these racial conferences, they are usually listed separately. Oh, but you might not be very familiar with this, as there haven’t been any major events requiring racial negotiations in recent decades."

"Oh? So, besides elves and humans, other races will also be attending?" Catherine quickly grasped the key point and asked, "Is it because of the Divine Servants event? Otherwise, there would be no need for all races to come running."

"Yes, it’s about the moribund preparing to reopen Death’s Gate," Pannis nodded, "Representatives from all races will be sent, even the Sea Race who are completely unaffected. Since the four guilds from the three major cities are one of the organizers, all the races will probably make a detour to the Holy City before attending the conference, um, so I guess the Holy City will be quite lively this month."

"Er, then why not just hold the conference in the Holy City?" Lina frowned as she spoke, "Why go to Neville City? It’s so troublesome for all the races having to detour like this, is it necessary?"

"That’s just the tradition," Catherine knew more about the diplomatic customs of the races and explained to Lina, "It’s a practice that dates back to the Third Epoch. Generally, as the initiator of the conference, one wouldn’t choose their own territory as the venue, but rather in a third party location that’s relatively friendly or neutral to both sides. Nowadays, although the different forces live in peace and neutrality isn’t a concern, the habit has been retained. A city approximately equidistant from both parties is selected as the conference site, of course, after obtaining the third party’s consent."

"Right, this time it’s actually a joint initiative by the Neutral Land and the Elves," Pannis nodded, "The progress of the Divine Servant event has already been gradually notified to all parties. This conference is actually for negotiating countermeasures, and most importantly, if we fail to stop the Divine Servant moribund’s plans and they do manage to open Death’s Gate, we need to discuss how to respond, where defenses should be placed, how many troops each should dispatch, the responsibility for supplies, the deployment of high-end combat power, and when the top combat forces should be mobilized. All these issues need negotiation to be resolved. Fortunately, we still have more than six months, so there is enough opportunity to prepare, unlike last time when we were unprepared and they took over the entire Sighing Desert."

"The reason those races are making a detour to the Holy City is probably largely because of you," Catherine sighed and said, "As the organizer of that battle back then, they will surely want to seek your opinion. Especially since the identities of those who are coming must be quite significant. For instance, the Elves are likely led by the Elf Queen herself, aren’t they?"

"Yes, the Elven Royal Court, as the other summoner, has the Elf Queen personally leading the delegation to show sincerity and the importance they place on the meeting. It indeed indicates the seriousness of the matter," Pannis answered earnestly, "It’s precisely because Fula is appearing in person that the status of the representatives from each party has supposedly been raised a few notches."

"Hehe, I see," Lina said with a half-smile, "Let me think, if their status is raised several notches, then for the Sea Race, it’s obviously High Priestess Doris leading the delegation, and from the swamps, for sure the sole Demigod Alcmene priest will be sent. As for the Winged people, naturally, the two winged twins have to show up. What about the other races? The Guardians?"

"The Guardians can’t be counted as participating in the conference." Not sure why, but Pannis instinctively felt danger and, wiping the cold sweat from his forehead, shook his head vigorously, "Although the Drakes will also send someone as an observer to listen in, they will not participate in any discussions or decision-making, so we can’t include the Drakes."

"Heh, so there are indeed visitors," Lina said, biting her lip, "Right, we’re eligible to attend this conference, too, aren’t we? So as someone who has been tracking the movements of the Divine Servants, we must have quite a bit to explain ourselves at the conference."

"Of course, we definitely have to attend," Pannis nodded, "I was planning to wait until the elven emissary group arrived tomorrow to set a precise conference time before telling you, but since it’s come up now, I might as well notify you in advance."

"Alright, alright, stop staring at him like that," Catherine patted Lina’s head, rescuing Pannis from the terrifying gaze, "I suggest we don’t wait for the different races to come to the Holy City to find you separately. Once the conference time is confirmed, why don’t we just go directly to Neville City? If they want to find you, they wouldn’t have to go roundabout but head straight to Neville City instead?"

"Hmm, that could work," Pannis nodded, stroking his chin, "I originally planned to join Antuin and Odin in welcoming the visitors, but since they suddenly both said that there are urgent matters to deal with within the Guild, leaving me alone for the reception, it would be better to go directly to Neville City."

"Hehe, hehe, I knew they probably had something urgent to take care of," Catherine chuckled mysteriously, suddenly noticing Lina’s strange expression and asked with confusion, "What’s wrong, Lina? What are you thinking about, and why do you look so odd?"

"Nothing, nothing," Lina gave a forced smile, standing up and saying, "I’ll go back to my room to find something. We’ll talk about it over lunch, okay?"

"Er, Neville City, huh?" Watching Lina leave in a rushed manner, Pannis and Catherine exchanged a glance and nodded, "That’s the headquarters of The Church of the Earth Goddess, I think I understand now." (To be continued.
