Chapter 882: The Door to the Past - The Old Shaman’s Lie_4

Kyle ignored it and listened attentively to the sounds behind him. In his perception, hundreds of powerful Undead with Demigod strength were approaching from all directions. He knew that once overtaken by those Undead, his group of thirteen would not only be trapped in a tough battle but might also face the risk of annihilation. To break this situation, unless some separated to cover the retreat and used the fastest speed to break through the three eerie beings in front of them. Another problem was that, beyond these three Dried Corpses, behind a great door, came extremely powerful energy fluctuations. The dignity and pressure emanating from the fluctuations clearly declared the presence of a Deity beyond the door. In other words, unless enough people stayed behind to block the pursuing Undead, everyone would face an unprecedentedly formidable enemy amid the Undead Tide.

"Carl, Master Klarke, Maya, Tiya, Curlee, you five stay outside the door and do not go in. Even in death, do not let a single Undead pass," Kyle said calmly, "The rest, follow me inside. Let’s quickly defeat these three Dried Corpses; our enemy is just across from us."

The five chosen to cover the rear undoubtedly faced tremendous pressure while the remaining eight who entered the room would ultimately confront the Divine Soul, also under immense pressure. Each group might face irreversible sacrifices, but no one objected, they rather accepted Kyle’s command as a matter of course.

"I have an objection," said a slightly rusty Common Language from the mouth of Old Shaman Finchy, the aged wolfman shaking his head, "Change your plan a bit, child. I’ll hold the door while you twelve go inside. With concentrated strength, your chances of overcoming the Divine Soul will be higher."

"Everyone is prepared for sacrifice," Kyle said earnestly, "But sacrificing a single member for victory is not a decision a qualified leader should make, even if that member is willing. Moreover, I do not believe that we have reached the point where we must sacrifice someone to win, so..."

"But I only have three more hours to live," said the Old Wolfman, shaking his head, "So, let me use these last three hours to guard your backs. This is the final glory of a Beastman Warrior."

"What?" Kyle exclaimed, his eyebrows arching and his pupils constricting as his face tightened, "But, Elder Finch, didn’t you say before we came that you could hold on for a few more years?"

"Clearly, I lied before," the Old Wolfman suddenly laughed, squinting his eyes in a way that made him look not so much like a wolf but more like an old Fox, and said with a proud tone, "To deceive the clever and excellent Kyle is indeed something to be proud of, haha. I had already arranged everything for after my departure, because I knew I had no time to live returning here, so now, child, you no longer have grounds to stop me."

Kyle’s face turned iron blue, he stood still, clenching his teeth for a few seconds, then his tightly tensed body relaxed, revealing a helpless bitter smile. With the utmost solemnity, he deeply bowed to the proud Finchy. Behind him, each person paid their highest respect to the old Beastman using the unique rites of their races. The ceremony ended, Kyle took one deep, lasting look at the old shaman’s aged face, as if to forever remember it, then turned around without a word, waved, and led the rest through the final door. The black door, amid the laughter of the Old Wolfman, slowly closed, separating the two worlds. (To be continued.
