Chapter 881: Door to the Past - The Old Shaman’s Lie_3
Kyle, however, felt restless. He swung his longsword, shattering the skull of a Demigod skeleton that was attacking Finche, dispersing its Soul Fire into the air and guarding Finche’s flank. He said, "Elder Finche, you’d better lower your attack intensity a bit. Such high physical exertion isn’t good for your body."
"Hahaha, Kyle, my boy, you worry too much," the old shaman laughed, "For a Beastman, battle is the best medicine. No matter the illness, a hearty fight can bring us back to our best state. So don’t worry about me. Go do what you need to do. I’ll take commands from you just like everyone else."
"Alright, I’ll respect your wishes, but please be careful." Kyle didn’t press further. As a competent leader, he respected each person’s choices. Therefore, he didn’t focus too much on Finche but instead turned his attention back to the overall situation, continuously issuing commands, "Dillie, attack straight ahead with your breath. Maya, fly up and prepare for a ranged magic attack. Tiya, guard your sister. Your Majesty, pick off two Scythe Skeletons on your own. Nellie, defend the left flank. Carl, you’re responsible for guarding Master Finche’s right wing. Lady Mina, fall back, I’ll give you thirty seconds to prepare for compressing Dragon Breath. Master Klarke, move three steps to the left for a Whirlwind Slash. Curlee, create an Illusory Mirror, targeting all the walls in this space. Aske, Aske, withdraw immediately and stay by Philarx’s side. Philarx, blast with all your might towards the stairs, don’t worry about damaging them, they won’t break, just blast fiercely, don’t let any Undead come out from there."
As a member of the team, Kyle, while defending the left flank with Nellie, also kept issuing orders. The battle raged intensely, but each of Kyle’s commands was spot on. His comrades didn’t need to hesitate or think; they just had to follow his orders immediately to achieve the best effect. Moments later, Kyle said, "Lady Mina, you have fifteen seconds left, any problems? Good. Curlee, hit us with visual suppression. Maya, get to work."
Following Kyle’s command, a light more dazzling than the sun burst forth from Maya in the air. The unstoppable light energy shot out in all directions and grew increasingly strong as it reflected off the Illusory Mirrors on the walls. Even Demigod Rank enemies would gradually disintegrate under such intense light energy. On the other hand, thanks to being targeted with visual suppression, Kyle and his team were shrouded in darkness, which prevented them from being affected by the light energy too much, and visually, they remained in a relatively normal state.
"Good job, Philarx, Aske, pull back, everyone, tighten the formation. And you two, stop flying and get down here." Kyle’s voice didn’t pause for a moment as he pointed towards the stairs leading down, "Lady Mina, it’s your turn, breathe down the stairwell, now, good. Philarx, as soon as the breath finishes, cool down the lower space with an ice spell. Nellie, you know what to do. Everyone else, follow through with the charge downstairs. Maya, seal the stairwell with light magic and then quickly catch up. Elder Finche, prepare a second line of defense with Lightning Barrier."
With a "huff", as soon as Kyle’s words ended, the Dragon Mina’s compressed breath also concluded. Immediately after, a cold airflow blasted downward, and a silver figure charged like lightning into the lower space. A large number of Undead had been attacking from below, blocking passage to the dungeon, but under Mina’s Dragon Breath, almost none of the Undead on and near the stairs survived; they all turned to ash. The few that remained were frozen by the ice spell and then shattered into pieces by the knights who followed, thus losing their animation. Ten seconds later, the thirteen had broken through the tightly defended narrow staircase and arrived at the dungeon level, accomplishing what seemed like an impossible task.
"Very good, keep moving, don’t stop—ahhhh!" Kyle let out a sudden shout that startled those around him, but after the cry, his ears shook, and he nodded, "Straight corridor ahead, not bad. Nellie, you take point, break through, Curlee, coordination of the breakthrough is up to you, aim precisely with your gunmanship."
"Great, turn left up ahead, watch for attacks, Aske, those two are yours. Master Klarke, help Aske contain those two. Damn, these long-robed Necromancers are so annoying. Your Majesty, assist Aske and Master Klarke. Nellie, slow down the advance, I’ve got the one on the right. Everyone else, keep up with Nellie. Elder Finche, you’re continuing to cover our rear, no problem? Understood. Good, Nellie speed up again. The door on the right, charge in—no, stop, something’s off inside."
It wasn’t just Kyle who felt it; everyone sensed a strong energy emanating from the door, carrying the traits of death but distinct from the aura of the Undead. The door was open, and through it, they could see three figures wrapped in black robes sitting at the center of the room. Sensing the approach of the group, one of the figures lifted its head to reveal the face of a Dried Corpse beneath the robe, grinning hideously and speaking in a hoarse and eerie voice in the common tongue that was just comprehensible for the group, "You’ve finally arrived, kakakaka, but this is where your journey ends. By our god’s will, we’ve been waiting for you here for a long time."
