Chapter 857: Chapter 121: The Clue in the Blueprint

Pannis stood silently beside Victor, quietly watching as his breath grew fainter and ultimately his chest ceased to rise and fall. It was difficult for Pannis to describe what kind of feelings he should harbor for this opponent. Victor indeed lacked combat experience, but he was certainly strong. Using Time Magic, which was nearly incomprehensible to others of this era, he had elevated his combat prowess to a terrifying level. During the final clash of energy, if Pannis’s own understanding of energy control had not been honed over more than a hundred years, it would have been very difficult to achieve victory. Now, even though he had won, the process had been arduous. Moreover, the desperate counterattacks of two dying enemies had caused quite some trouble for Pannis and Vivian. With Pannis’s combat experience, it was almost too late to defend, almost allowing Vivian to be seriously injured as well.

Lina was considerate enough to keep silent as well, her Divine Spells still tirelessly healing the burns on his arm. After staring at the corpse for a while, Pannis finally shook his head with a wry smile and let out a soft sigh, "It’s finally over. I’m a bit afraid to think about what kind of mood Philarx is in right now. Huh, after killing his two students, I’m afraid I won’t be able to face him in the future."

"Has Master Fila been informed yet?" Catherine settled the weakened Vivian and came over to check on Pannis’s condition. Finding that he was indeed not badly hurt, she breathed a sigh of relief and said, "We indeed owe Master Fila an apology."

"He must have known already. Two Demigods were clashing right under his feet in their Inherent Psychic Domains, it would have been impossible for him not to be aware unless he were dead," said Pannis with a touch of despondency. "I’m afraid he had anticipated this outcome long ago and did not know how to face his two wayward students, thus choosing to pretend not to know and stay on the Floating Island. Actually, I understand that he probably wanted to conceal everything for his students. If it wasn’t for the severity of this incident, I truly wouldn’t have wanted to push so hard, to the point where killing them was necessary."

"One can imagine that Master Fila must feel troubled, after all, these two were his favorite students," Catherine said as she patted Pannis’s uninjured shoulder, soothingly adding, "But you didn’t do anything wrong. The deaths of thousands of innocents, and the lives of hundreds of thousands of ordinary people threatened, this matter needed a resolution."

"I understand, which is why I have no regrets," Pannis said, though his expression seemed somewhat distant, as if weighted with heavy thoughts, "I just feel a bit sorry for Philarx, that’s all."

"But your expression doesn’t seem as relaxed as you claim," Catherine, who had grown very familiar with Pannis, insisted as she scrutinized his face, "You’re definitely troubled by something. Can you share it so we can help carry the burden?"

"Er, actually, I don’t know myself. Just now, during the battle with them, I suddenly felt like I had neglected something. Not now, but something from a long time ago that I had overlooked, yet I can’t seem to recall what it was. That’s why you get this feeling," Pannis said, patting his head, snapping out of his dazed state and forcibly perking up with a smile, "It’s nothing, let’s not think about it for now. The most important thing at the moment is to deal with the aftermath. We need to figure out how to find and destroy all the Arrays in the city, and we also have to notify Warrensen about the other cities where Arrays were located to deal with together. As for the follow-up investigations, it’s more appropriate for that to be resolved internally by the Kingdom of Mages; we don’t need to intervene anymore."

"Mm." Catherine still harbored some concerns, but she nonetheless showed a smile and nodded, "Indeed, we must deal with those Arrays in the city right away. It’s a pity that they haven’t kept their promise to provide us with the blueprints—otherwise, it would be a lot more convenient. Without the blueprints, if the arrangements of the Arrays are as hidden as they say, it’s probably going to take a lot of effort to find them. Moreover, if any part of an Array is leftover, it could pose a huge risk. We must clean up thoroughly."

"It’s unlikely that such a thing as blueprints would exist." Pannis said with a wry smile and a shake of his head, "They are not wrong about that. Anyone planning something as evil as this would not be so foolish as to leave behind blueprints that could provide clues for others to foil their plans. So, if we want to destroy the Magic Arrays, we are going to have to figure it out and search on our own."

"You might be wrong this time." Vivian, supported by Freya, walked over with shaky steps. Although the healing had helped the Mage girl’s body, she was still far behind the others in terms of physical strength after only a few months of rehabilitation and felt sore all over her body after the high-intensity battle in the Inherent Psychic Domain. Still, she persisted in not using the Puppet Control Spell to manipulate her body in accordance with their agreement, opting instead to endure the pain and walk with difficulty, step by step. Upon reaching them, she said, "Magic Arrays are very complex; they require very precise design in and of themselves, and their plans are to use these Arrays as nodes to craft an even larger-scaled magic Array, which would demand even stricter designs. As such, if there is any mistake in the placement of any vital node, it would result in the entire Array failing. Therefore, to complete their plans, it’s impossible that they would have no blueprints, but what I am worried about is that they might have guessed we would come for them and might have destroyed the blueprints in advance. That would be troublesome."

"If there are blueprints, they would only be there," Freya pointed toward the ceiling and said, "We found a living space of Victor’s before he died above. I reckon if they aren’t here, then they’re in Felic’s office upstairs."

"Above?" Vivian looked up curiously, but the ceiling was shrouded in darkness and beyond her vision. She could only ask with confusion, "His room is up there?"

"Okay, the healing’s done." Lina bit her lip, then firmly slapped the newly formed skin on Pannis’s arm that had just healed—a skin that was evidently more sensitive, causing Pannis to immediately clutch his arm and let out a miserable yell. The priest girl pouted and said, "It’s your own fault for getting so badly injured. This is your reward."

"Ah, quit it, you guys." Catherine sighed with a headache and looked up, "Let’s think about how we’re going to get up there first."

"It’s easy, just climb the stairs," Lina said as she lifted her hammer, threateningly gestured at Pannis with it, and then struck the ground. The temple’s floor began to tremble slightly.
