Chapter 854: Chapter 118: Tedious and Strange Battle

The battle between the demigod mage Victor and his adversaries was a long and tedious affair. In the Yarran World, fighting a mage is always a headache, especially a demigod mage who becomes even more powerful within their Inherent Psychic Domain, approaching a state of omnipotence. With the ability to use Dimensional Doors, they are able to teleport short distances at will, almost completely unrestricted. Therefore, it was extremely difficult to land an effective strike on them. Even on the rare occasion that they were hit, it was hard to break through their Magic Shields and inflict significant damage. At most, these strikes would only cause minor mana depletion. However, reaching the demigod stage meant that both casters and physical fighters could replenish their mana or Aggression by absorbing energy from their surroundings at any time, making it impossible for them to exhaust their mana from ineffective strikes. The only way to injure them was to find the right moment for a powerful attack that could breakthrough their Shields. Therefore, if a demigod mage set aside their dignity and decided to play hide and seek within their domain, even a substantial difference in ability wouldn’t guarantee a swift victory; it would still take a vast amount of time to win.

In combat, Victor kept his distance from Pannis and Vivian. Whenever Pannis tried to close in, Victor would take Felic and teleport to another location using a Dimensional Door. Though Pannis could have pursued them with his speed even with the interference of the Dimensional Doors, Victor specialized in Time magic and adjusted the flow of time around him. His speed was still a bit slower than Pannis’s, but the difference was so negligible that Pannis’s speed couldn’t overcome the disruption of the Dimensional Doors, and he had to rely on his rich Combat Experience to try to predict their emergence and close the gap.

Similarly, Pannis’s Inherent Psychic Domain also caused Victor a headache. Long ago, the great mage Antuin, who was the first to witness the world within Pannis’s Psychic Domain, had commented that a humanoid Inherent Psychic Domain was nearly like cheating, especially when the domain’s humanoid was a strong-defensive Phantom like Nellie. The Phantom was not under Pannis’s control but was merely a shadow from Pannis’s memory, and all of its actions were in accordance with Nellie’s behavioral patterns in Pannis’s memory. This time, the Phantom chose the most rational defense approach, staying close to Vivian throughout. No matter how Victor and Felic attacked, even if Vivian stood perfectly still, their spells could not threaten the young mage girl, as the Phantom blocked everything.

As for Pannis, without the need to protect Vivian, he relied on his speed to move across the battlefield, appearing and disappearing at any corner, mostly in hiding. Even if the enemy increased their environmental awareness within their own domains, it was still hard to pinpoint his exact location. Therefore, he always managed to approach Victor and Felic from the most unexpected places, launching surprise wide-range sword qi assaults that forced them to move frequently, easing the burden on Nellie’s Phantom and Vivian.

Felic and Victor, too, wanted to use various means to directly attack Pannis’s true body and injure him. But Pannis’s Combat Experience was just too vast. Even though Victor’s chant time doubled due to Time magic, barely had he lifted his hand to make the first chant when Pannis had already understood the magic he intended to use, the magnitude he wanted to achieve, and even foreseen the approximate landing spots of the spells. Before their magic could be released, Pannis had already changed his position, forcing them both to interrupt their spellcasting and look for the next opportunity to attack. As for predicting Pannis’s movements and casting restraining spells, both had tried but found it exceedingly difficult. In particular, two individuals not adept in combat trying to anticipate a seasoned adventurer who had countless times battled numerous Demigod Divine Wisdom beings and Demigod magical beasts was an impossible task.

Vivian, on the other hand, the mage girl with one hand clutching a Crystal and the other waving a magic staff, was the most relaxed and untroubled person on the battlefield. Protected by Nellie’s Phantom, she didn’t have to waste effort on defense. Only area-of-effect magic without physical form and direct assault spells like Earthfire Fountain required her to use Dimensional Doors to evade; all other physical spells she left to Nellie to handle. As a result, Vivian freely unleashed various attack spells, powered by the magical energy she absorbed from the Crystal. Although her attacks couldn’t harm the Demigod mage Victor, they posed a significant threat to Felic, who was merely at Legendary Rank. To prevent being isolated and defeated, Felic couldn’t roam the battlefield like Vivian and Pannis; he had to stay close to Victor. So, whenever Vivian’s magic threatened Felic, Victor had to either move position or be distracted by defending Felic, giving Pannis several opportunities to almost successfully ambush them after closing in.

Thus, a rather helpless scene unfolded. Both sides, which had been ready for a direct confrontation, found themselves trapped in an endless war of attrition during the face-off. Each side was striving to launch an attack while ensuring their own safety, but neither suffered any actual damage, merely exhausting their own energies in vain.

"Enough," Victor suddenly shouted, the intensity of the magical energy surrounding his body crazily surging once again. Energy enveloped him and Felic beside him, slowly lifting them into the air. In the perception of this energy, the clock tower, as a source emitting a huge amount of energy, began to merge with Victor’s own energy, and the phantom pendulum behind the clock tower also started to swing at a haphazard speed, no longer as regular as before.

Pannis’s expression shifted. Although the enemies floating in the air were the perfect targets, Pannis did not intend to take advantage of the situation but quickly retreated to Vivian’s side, his gaze vigilantly fixed on the two figures in the sky.

"You have become tiresome," Victor’s voice returned to its usual slowness, "I have decided to end this battle."

As he declared this, an anomaly occurred. (To be continued. If you like this work, you’re welcome to cast your recommendation votes, monthly tickets on Qidian (qidian.com), and your support is my greatest motivation. Mobile users, please visit m.qidian.com to read.)
