Chapter 840: Chapter 105: Unknown Plan
"Oh? Is everything ready?" the priest slightly lifted his head, revealing a pale and gaunt chin beneath his hood, "Are all the Arrays laid out according to the plan? Have you checked them personally? Including the backup Arrays, are there any problems?"
"There are no problems, Brother." The newcomer answered with certainty, "I have carefully checked each Array. I spent five days checking every single one to ensure that absolutely no issues will arise."
"You also know how important this plan is to our Deity," the priest said in a severe voice, "We cannot allow any oversights. Should any key Array fail, we wouldn’t need an Oracle from our Deity for us believers to never forgive you. You understand this, don’t you?"
"Of course, if the Deity’s plan fails because of the Arrays, I wouldn’t forgive myself either," the newcomer stated resolutely without hesitation, "So there won’t be any unforeseen circumstances—I guarantee it with my faith."
"Whew, that gives me peace of mind," the priest sighed in relief, relaxing as he spoke, "I’m very sorry that you sacrificed so much of your research time outside and did so much work only to be questioned by me. I hope you don’t blame me. Not just you, but everyone, each of you has done far more than I. Without your efforts, things wouldn’t have progressed this smoothly. I want to thank all of you here for your devotion to our Deity."
"Brother," all the people in the temple simultaneously bowed before the Divine Throne as the priest stood beneath, with the newcomer speaking on their behalf, "The efforts of us all cannot compare to the sacrifices you have made. Having presided over the most crucial work for our Deity in this temple for five years, exposing yourself to sunlight only three times, everything you have done for our Deity is seen and remembered. Not only by our Deity, but every one of us hasn’t forgotten for even a second. The Deity once conveyed through an Oracle that without your sacrifices, we could not have reached this day. Thus, you will always be our Brother, both now and in the future, as long as the River of Time flows unceasingly."
"I have said that for the glory of our Deity, all sacrifices are worth it," the priest responded, his voice still even and calm, "Isn’t this what we all believe? Moreover, when the Deity’s plan succeeds, all our efforts will be rewarded. Each one of us, including those brothers who passed away, will be reborn in the River of Time. What’s more, compared to the lives lost by some of our younger brothers, my sacrifices are trivial. And I am different from you—don’t forget, were it not for the Deity sharing His glory with me, I would have ceased to exist in this world long ago. For this reason alone, no matter how much I give, I cannot repay even a ten-thousandth of what the Deity has given me. So, let’s no longer speak of sacrifices and efforts. Instead, let us do our utmost in hopes of standing by the Deity’s side."
"Yes, Brother," twenty different voices merged into one statement, "May the eventual glory of our Deity illuminate the world."
"So, did you gather everyone here to announce that everything is ready?" The priest turned back to the Divine Throne, standing like a statue at the foot of the stone steps as he had done every day for the past five years, his voice forever calm and slow, "Or is there something else?"
"Not just to announce," the newcomer hesitated before answering, "Brother, actually, I have an idea."
"After all these years, we are as close as a family," the priest slowly said, "There is nothing that cannot be spoken openly."
"Well, my idea targets Nellie’s adventure team," the newcomer said. "Not only have three partners died because of them, but their investigation is evidently getting closer to us. If we let this continue, and they suddenly find us either before our plan commences or while it’s in progress, I fear our Deity’s plan might be destroyed by their hands."
"So, what then?" The priest asked slowly, "Are you suggesting we confront them beforehand?"
"Yes, Elder Brother," the newcomer admitted the priest’s guess. "If we gather all our partners, our strength will definitely surpass theirs. As long as you, Elder Brother, can restrain that Kyle, the others can work together to take care of the remaining Legendary ones. Our chances of victory are quite high, especially since our side, including everyone’s followers and guardian warriors, already has more than twice the number of Legendary Rank as them. It’s impossible for us not to win."
"You haven’t reported this idea to our Deity, have you?" The priest slowly removed the hood from his head, revealing a face unfamiliar beneath it, young in appearance but aged in expression, with a sickly pale complexion: "If you had reported this to our Deity, you would never have suggested this idea."
"Indeed, I haven’t mentioned it," the newcomer said. "But what is wrong with my idea?"
"If we consider it from a common-sense perspective, your idea isn’t wrong," the priest said. "However, those people cannot be considered with common sense. You surely know what kind of person Kyle is. Someone who has directly fought against a Deity, you cannot comprehend the strength he possesses. Even at my prime, skilled as I am in battle, I could never overpower him, especially since I’ve never fought someone of equal rank and am only a step away from returning to the River of Time. What do I have to overpower him with? Unless our Deity personally imposes Divine Punishment, even combined, we cannot confront him, let alone when he has so many reliable partners. To concentrate and battle them would only ensure our complete defeat. Therefore, not only should we not gather to battle, but we must intentionally scatter like the other partners. This way, even if we perish, other partners can continue to execute our Deity’s plan. Or are you wishing for our Deity to personally impose Divine Punishment against them?"
"Certainly not," the newcomer shook his head. "But what if he ruins our Deity’s plan? What if they find me tomorrow? I can’t do as Meron did, what should I do then?"
"You need not worry, you, I, none of us can predict the entirety of our Deity’s plan. Therefore, as long as our Deity has not issued an Oracle, do nothing extra," the priest spoke indifferently. "As for if they find you, just do as I once told you, for that is our Deity’s will."
"I understand," the newcomer fell silent for a moment, then nodded. "Our Deity’s will is above all else."
"Yes, our Deity’s will is above all else." The priest bowed deeply toward the empty Divine Throne, as the last of his words drifted into the newcomer’s ears, "Remember, nothing is too great a sacrifice, all sacrifices are worthwhile."
