Chapter 810: Chapter 75 Red-robed Felic
Red-robed Felic led the way, with the group passing through the small door he had opened upon arrival and leaving behind a crowd of apprentices who stood stupefied, witnessing the ongoing events. These apprentices felt fortunate, for they would likely have material to boast about to their peers for a long time to come; after all, it was not every day one met a Demigod and a knight even more formidable than a Demigod, or saw everyone’s revered Governor Felic treating someone with such respect—a scene their fellow students might never have the chance to witness in their lifetimes. Felic paid no attention to the apprentices either, hurrying everyone towards the Teleportation Array behind them.
Pannis’s timing was impeccably precise, almost to an exaggerated degree since, when the group reached the room with the Teleportation Array behind the City Hall, the Array had just established its energy connection and was charging up. They needed only to wait a minute to enter the Array. The one Felic had used to come down was a different, one-way Array, as the spatial coordinates on the ground were fixed, hence there was no need to use this complex timed Array.
"I do not know for what reason you all have come to visit the teacher." Standing beside the sparkling Array, Felic said calmly, "However, the fact that this Elf gentleman has also accompanied everyone here suggests that your visit to the teacher is certainly not just a casual one seeing as the Elf gentleman has already been waiting in Fiery City for five days. If it was just a visit, you would have had plenty of opportunities to see him alone, instead of coming in with all the ladies and Master Pannis."
"You’ve already noticed," Muir said, his fingers deftly playing the strings of his instrument, speaking in a chant-like, rhythmic tone, "I was so careful not to reveal my whereabouts because I was worried about causing unnecessary trouble for you all. I did not expect it to still affect you."
"Mages have far more control over their domains than one would imagine," Felic replied softly. "Most things that happen in the city cannot be hidden from the lords, especially in the capital."
"Well, you guessed right," Pannis said. "Indeed, our visit is not simply to check on his health or extend our greetings. We’re here to see Philarx because we have some issues that we’d like him to help us research, issues that perhaps only he can provide a relatively accurate answer to."
"I understand," Felic said politely. "I do not mean to pass judgment on your intentions, nor do I wish to impede what you all plan to do. However, I am sure you are also aware of the teacher’s health condition. He is quite weak and cannot withstand excessive fatigue. So, I implore you to control yourselves somewhat and not let the teacher expend too much energy, lest his condition worsens. Of course, as a junior to Master Pannis, I should not be making such a request, but I hope you can understand an apprentice’s concern for his teacher’s health and accommodate my excessive plea."
"We understand your feelings," Pannis said after a brief silence, nodding. "We will control ourselves and not ask too many questions. In fact, we were not planning to discuss much with Philarx today; we just wanted to set a time to talk at length when he is in better spirits. Rest assured, none of us wish to overburden Philarx or worsen his health due to our visit, so we will be very careful."
"I truly appreciate that." Felic’s serious face brightened with a hint of a smile as he let out a soft breath. "I was just worried that you all might not accept my request, but you masters have accepted it so readily. In hindsight, my earlier concern seems quite impolite. My apologies."
In the Yarran World, any ordinary person who excels remarkably in a certain field or professionals above the Legendary Rank can be honored with the title of Master. Thus, even though these young ladies are not old, they too have earned the qualification to be called Masters by others.
"Your protective love for your teacher is something we can completely understand. I felt the same way about my own teacher," Freya said from behind Catherine, her voice ethereal, "No one wants to see their teacher’s condition worsen due to outside disturbances."
"You must be Master Freya; I’ve heard the teacher mention you." Although Freya’s identity as Odin’s daughter was a secret, her other identity as Christo’s only apprentice and heir of knowledge was not, hence red-robed Felic was well aware: "After Master Christo passed away, the teacher was depressed for a long time, lamenting that he never had the chance to bid him farewell. The teacher will surely be delighted to see you. After all, for a student to advance to the Legendary Rank while so young must surely bring joy to the master’s spirit in the Realm of the Dead."
Felic was correct; there weren’t many who could ascend to the Legendary Rank in their twenties—most did so between the ages of thirty and forty. Therefore, Freya’s achievement surely hadn’t shamed her teacher Christo. As they spoke, the light from the charging Teleportation Array suddenly flashed and dimmed, signaling that it had finished charging, with only the operational Array still emitting a faint light.
"Please, this way," Felic said, gesturing towards the Teleportation Array. "After the masters pass through, please wait on the spot. I need to enter last. Once I arrive, I will continue to lead the way. Please."
Pannis lowered his head to take a look at the Array in front of him and was the first to step into it. As the waves of magic fluctuated over Felic, Pannis had already vanished on the spot. The girls looked at each other, and Catherine nodded, leading the way into the Array. As soon as the Array was activated, Catherine felt darkness before her eyes, and when she regained her vision, she discovered she was already in an unfamiliar place, with Pannis not far away, standing with arms crossed and looking around.
"Is this the Floating Island?" The knight girl felt a wave of novelty as she stepped onto the Floating Island for the first time. The area of this Floating Island was less than two square kilometers. At the very center of the island stood a towering Mage Tower that reached into the clouds, its height comparable to the Starshine Tower of the City of Knowledge. It was nearly 120 meters tall. The Magic Tower was pale blue, with the power of magic flowing around its circular body. Looking up, the clouds drifted around the waist of the Magic Tower, making it appear even more mystical beneath the veil.
Due to having learned the advantages of other Elemental Mages, surrounding the Mage Tower were also constructed various attribute buildings, mostly workshops specialized in processing and producing magical materials and magic items. Those working inside the workshops were mostly magic apprentices and followers of some Mages, as ordinary people were not qualified to set foot on this Floating Island — such was the rule in the Kingdom of Mages.
"Eh, it’s really cool here." One could tell by the voice that Lina had come in, as the silver-haired girl exclaimed upon entering: "These Mages really know how to live it up; it’s so hot outside, but you can’t feel it here. And even though there’s an Energy Barrier around the edge of the island, there’s still wind coming in. Ah, it feels like the heat I had within me has been swept away all at once."
Just like Lina said, the temperature here was a comfortable twenty-something degrees Celsius, and it seemed that the humidity was also artificially controlled; the dry air outside did not affect the inside of the Floating Island at all. Moist breezes caressed their faces, rehydrating the girls’ sun-dried skin and leaving a sense of indescribable comfort on their bodies.
"I’m in." The next to enter was Vivian, who, upon arrival, lowered her voice and spoke urgently: "This Felic official has a strange mood. He doesn’t show the respect or calmness in his heart towards us like he outwardly displays; instead, it’s filled with disgust and unease, as if he bears considerable hostility."
"If it were me, I’d feel hostile too." Following Vivian, Freya, who had just entered, took over the conversation: "Knowing full well that his teacher’s health has deteriorated to this extent and then coming under the guise of visiting an old friend to disturb the teacher’s rest, it’s already quite gracious of him not to send us away and to receive us politely. I couldn’t do that either."
"So let’s all be as mindful as we can," Catherine sighed and looked at Pannis, asking, "Let’s try to minimize the number and length of our questions and leave as soon as we get the answers. Do you think that’s appropriate?"
"Yes, I think so too," Pannis casually patted Ava on the head, who had run up to him as soon as she entered: "I don’t like this feeling."
"I don’t like it either," Catherine said: "I always feel like I’m doing something wrong, and facing Felic’s gaze makes me feel very awkward. I’ve learned these social tactics in my social studies class; he is probably doing it on purpose to make us feel uneasy and leave quickly, to reduce the disturbance to Master Fila. Although I understand, it’s hard to feel unhappy with him, after all, from his perspective, he hasn’t done anything wrong. So, it’s better for us to get done with our business and leave quickly."
"Have you finished exchanging information?" Muir emerged slowly from the Array, his expression carrying the Elves’ unique indifference: "I’m the last one, even if you haven’t finished, let’s stop here."
This Elf was very smart and had the manners of a gentleman, deliberately entering last to give the adventure team’s six members enough time to interact. He was well aware that after seeing him and then Felic, the six needed some brief private time to adjust, so without showing it, he delayed his entrance as much as possible to vie for a bit more time for them.
"Thank you, Mr. Muir," Catherine said with a smile of gratitude: "We have finished exchanging information. Well, just in time, the official Felic has arrived." (To be continued.
