Chapter 805: Chapter 70: Yeda’s Singer

As midday approached, the Third Flame City was very quiet; the residents had all returned to their homes to eat lunch and avoid the blistering midday sun, only some tourists were still seizing every minute to tour the city. As a result, there were no pedestrians in the alleyways at this time. The Floating Island wasn’t touring nearby during this time, so when you looked up, you could see the clear blue sky with bright light shining straight down on the buildings and ground in the city center, making the stone-paved ground somewhat scorching. The city seemed to have fallen into a slumber, with only the faint sounds of insects echoing around. Of course, besides the insect noises, there was also the melodious music. The sound of the Flaron Harp wasn’t loud; its faint tones, mingling with the chirping of insects, wafted in all directions, as if creating a mid-afternoon daydream.

Following the sound, the music grew closer as they went along, the tune becoming even more gentle. They hadn’t yet seen the musician, but the girls could already picture an image in their minds: under the bright sunlight, the performer hidden in the shadow of the walls, leaning casually against the green walls of the alley, their slender fingers idly plucking the harp’s delicate strings, invoking a sense of languor rising from within.

Pannis, however, curled his lips into a smile, speaking softly, "At this distance, we can catch him. It’s indeed him, the strongest Legendary in the Elven Forest, a Deity’s cleric only a step away from Demigod, an expert in all realms—poet, painter, Mage, ranger—who has mastered each area. Over these years, there has been only him. I’m right, aren’t I, Muir."

"Ting-a-ling, dong," the melody of the Flaron Harp changed, suddenly shifting from its original melodious calm to a joyful and brisk tune, as if the master of the harp was using the music to express a passionate welcome to the arrival of the six people. Pannis scoffed and shook his head, "This guy always likes to do this, so secretive, the very image of a clergy person."

"Hey," a mallet was already suspended above Pannis’s head, the silver-haired priestess glared at Pannis, spoke disdainfully, "Dear Mr. Pannis, you have the nerve to speak of us? Have you forgotten how mysteriously you hid yourself? Humph, if we hadn’t seen through your disguise, you would still be continuing your mystery act."

"Ah, it looks like you’ve been discovered, Kyle." The music stopped abruptly, Muir’s familiar voice arose from the end of the alley, "Not long ago I was wondering when the mask you wore would be torn off, never expecting it to be so soon. However, I’m truly surprised that after being discovered, you actually stayed here instead of leaving on your own. It seems you’ve come to terms with it, which is very good, congratulations, old friend."

"Call me Pannis, I am Pannis," Pannis’s mouth twitched, and he walked towards the direction of the voice. As they came out of the alley, everyone saw Muir of the Elves, Yeda’s Singer.

At the end of the alley was a narrow three-way intersection, and Muir was just as everyone had imagined, leaning against one side of the wall, holding a Flaron Harp in his arms, and smiling as he looked at them. Seeing the six people arrive, the exceptionally handsome Elf, dressed in a grass green Elven attire, took off the hat on his head and gave a deep bow to the girls, speaking with a unique rhythm in the common tongue, "Followers of Yeda greet you all, beautiful ladies, may the tree of your life ever flourish, and your youth be everlasting."

"May the forest stay verdant, and arrows sharp," Lina, a fellow clergy member, had learned long ago from Pannis how to respond to the greetings from a Yeda Temple Elf cleric, now answering on behalf of Catherine, "May your songs and tunes forever linger in Deity’s ears."

"Thank you for your blessings, beautiful Sage Miss." Every move of Yeda’s follower was impeccably elegant, which wasn’t surprising at all, since to the world, all Elves—male or female—could almost be considered the epitome of elegance. Muir patiently greeted each of the five ladies, not leaving out even Ava, who appeared to be a child. Not until the elaborate meeting ceremony concluded did Muir address everyone, "I had no idea when we parted in the City of Innocence that we would meet again so soon, nor did I imagine that when we did so, you all would have ascended to the Legendary Rank, which is a remarkable rate of advancement. Moreover, a few months ago, I visited the Sea Country and heard about your deeds from High Priestess Doris. I must say, confronted with the temptations of an evil god, that you all could maintain the defenses of your souls and thwart his conspiracy of return impresses me greatly."

"Return to the world?" Mentioning everything that happened in the Sea Country half a year ago, Catherine couldn’t bother to respond to Muir’s praise anymore and asked in surprise, "Hasn’t Demos already perished? How can he return to the world?"

"Miss Catherine, don’t you know?" Muir asked back, even more surprised than Catherine, "If you didn’t know about the conspiracy behind this, then why did you resist the temptation of the Divine Artifact?"

"I don’t know any conspiracy," Catherine said in confusion, "But I know that what I was doing was wrong. The convictions I uphold wouldn’t allow me to do it, so I had to resist its temptation."

"I understand now, that’s indeed the resolve a follower of Lady Nellie should have." Muir gave Catherine another serious salute and said solemnly, "I’m truly sorry for underestimating your will and beliefs. I hope you can accept my apology."

"It’s nothing," Catherine pressed on, "But I am very curious about the conspiracy you just mentioned."

"Actually, Demos was a jealous and cautious Deity. He always left himself a way out in everything he did. With his character, he would never perish and leave behind a Divine Artifact that would ultimately allow someone else to ascend to godhood," Muir explained. "High Priestess Doris told me that after studying the fragments of the Divine Artifact, she found out the Horn of Nightmare Spirit was actually the way out Demos left behind. If someone accepted this Divine Artifact and used it, Demos would gradually revive through the user, and ultimately, with a complete Divine Body, he would descend into the world, becoming the only Deity that could enter the mortal realm."

"I see, thank you for telling me such important information," Catherine felt a chill in her heart. Holding the Horn of Nightmare Spirit, she had wavered more than once, but she ultimately destroyed the Divine Artifact. The knight maiden finally knew that, if she hadn’t resisted the temptation back then, perhaps what existed within her body now wouldn’t be herself anymore.

"Alright, let’s not talk about this anymore." In fact, Pannis had already guessed Demos’s conspiracy after the event but had not spoken directly because he worried Catherine would be scared. Thus, he spoke discontentedly, "Shouldn’t you be at the Elven Royal Court right now? Why have you come here, and it looks like you were specifically waiting for us."

"I wasn’t here originally, but nearby," Muir answered. "As for my purpose... In your eyes, what image do elves have?" (To be continued.
