Chapter 778: Chapter 43 Red Flower Honey Water_1
"Please, follow me." Lizardmen are an inherently grateful race. Unless they are close friends, they often maintain a low posture towards those who have helped them. Moreover, they are always ready to repay anyone who has helped them when and wherever possible. Therefore, after the girls left Pannis’s Inherent Psychic Domain, all the Lizardmen hunters, including the Legendary Rank duo Ganet and Graneer, showed great respect to the group. Currently leading the way was Graneer, an old Lizardman. Walking diagonally in front of the group, he pointed to the ground below and warned, "Tread carefully here. Take it slow the first time you walk on it, s-s-s. Once you become accustomed to it, you can speed up. No need to rush, take your time."
Graneer was referring to a pathway made from triangular frameworks, starting from marsh’s solid land, leading directly to the camp in the marsh center. The Lizardmen build their camp this way to use the all-consuming marsh as a natural barrier, leaving only one path for access. Once all except for the sentries enter the camp, the path is retracted. What this means is that it is virtually impossible for swamp beasts or ill-intentioned enemies to approach the camp secretly. The path wasn’t very wide, about the width of three frames, or three to four meters. Catherine cautiously stepped foot on the path and found the sensation hard to describe. The ground was soft and felt like you were about to sink in after stepping on it, but you wouldn’t actually sink. It felt like walking on water or being in the clouds.
"Come on, you guys go first. Pannis and I will be at the end." Catherine took a few tentative steps and found it a little challenging to maintain balance, but her control over her Legendary Rank close-combat advantage allowed her to handle it justly. Feeling satisfied that she had adapted well she jumped back next to the group and said, "Don’t worry, it’s easy. We’ll be behind you guys. If you lose balance, we’ll catch you in time. Don’t hesitate, just go for it."
"Uh, I think I’d like to find another way to cross." Freya looked down at her physique, smiled a harder-than-crying smile and added, "I think it would be better for everyone."
"S-s-s, it’s okay." Galantis urged from the back, "Don’t worry, these swamp bridges are very strong, s-s-s. Even your weight can’t break it, s-s-s. Although we have never tested it before - after all, we couldn’t find a tester of your weight - theoretically, it should absolutely hold up. Don’t be afraid."
"Hey, do all of you swamp people speak so frankly?" Freya rolled her eyes and said with a helpless look, "I think I might be happier if you said it more subtly."
"Really?" Galantis tilted her cute head quizzically, her yellow-green vertical pupils blinked, it was impossible to tell whether the mocking tone of the lady lizard was intentional or unaffected directness. But from her quickly flickering tongue and the tail that was furiously wagging behind her – almost creating a whirlwind with its movement – it wasn’t hard to decipher her true intention. The Lizard Lady, posing like she just became enlightened, said, "Oh dear, s-s-s, it’s hard for us lizardmen to understand you humans’ subtle insinuations, s-s-s. Even after living outside for two years, we still couldn’t shake this direct nature of ours, sorry for that, s-s-s, hehe."
"What’s with the ’hehe’." Freya didn’t bother addressing the lizard lady’s undisguised snigger at the end, she gingerly walked onto the marsh’s floating bridge. There was no denying, the Lizardmen’s floating bridge turned out to be very sturdy. Even when Freya stepped on it, there was no sign of it collapsing. The only observable difference was the depth slightly increased where the tense fabric was pushed into the mud. The large and beautiful princess walked across the floating bridge, although swaying like a duck, she persisted and reached the other side without taking a tumble. It was only once she reached the camp that she wiped sweat off her forehead and heaved a sigh of relief, "It’s simpler than I thought. Now, even if I fall, I won’t become a mud person since I won’t fall into the mud."
"I wouldn’t be so sure." Pannis shrugged, teasing, "You’ve been standing at one place a little too long, maybe you’ll break the support structure underneath. After all, you are beyond the load testing range. Hahaha, don’t point anything there, I know those are parts of the crystal energy cannon, don’t aim it at me, okay I was wrong, please forgive me."
"Serves you right." The girls gave Pannis a sideway glance one by one, crossed the floating bridge into the camp in turn, and sat around a future fire pit under the guidance of Old Lizardman. Reed cushions to sit on were woven from the reeds surrounding the marsh. In the stifling swampy environment, it felt extraordinarily cool to sit on them.
The ancient Lizardman poured each of them a cup of swamp specialty, Red Flower Honey Water. This beverage is produced from the nectar that the Swamp Killer Bees gather from the unique red flowers. Collecting the honey involves a great deal of risk making it scarce; it is only serving during the reception of esteemed guests. However, Graneer didn’t mention any of this. According to the mindset of the Lizardmen, it is obligatory to offer their best to the people who have helped them. Whether these people know it, or not, was not essential. As long as the lizardmen are satisfied with their effort, that’s all that matters. Because of this peculiar habit, the Lizard race is often misunderstood by outsiders who are not well-versed with their customs, being miserly when in reality those viewing them as such are the ones enjoying the best the Lizardmen have to offer.
Pannis picked up the cup to sniff, looked at Graneer with an aloof smile and drawled, "Ah, Red Flower Honey collected just ten minutes ago, huh. The brave honey collector must have been seriously harmed by the killer bees, right? Is he okay?"
"It was Ganet who went to collect it, s-s-s. Rest assured." Knowing that Pannis understood the customs of the lizard people, the old reptile couldn’t hide the fact and added, "Only a Legendary Rank can do this unscathed, s-s-s."
Upon seeing the questioning looks of the girls, Pannis explained the value of Red Flower Honey in a low voice. Ultimately, the Killer Bees, which pose a serious threat to Gold Rank professionals too, can be regarded as a high-level existence in the swamp, not having their honey easily accessible. When these girls heard Pannis’ explanation, the tiny glass of honey water became precious in their eyes. Catherine put down the cup, formally thanked the old lizardman, but did not refuse and accepted it with gratefulness. This action got the surrounding Lizardmen to wag their tails even faster, clearly they liked her response.
"Why have you set up camp so early?" Catherine gave only one look and Pannis understood what she meant. He subtly changed the subject, "Normally, you chase the prey at leisure, right? It’s not even noon, has that relaxed hunting protocol changed?" (To be continued. If you like this work, we welcome you to come to qidian.com to vote and recommend.
