Chapter 763: Chapter 28: The Reappearance of the Inherent Psychic Domain_1
Catherine saw this world again, this was already the second time she had seen it through her own eyes and not in a dream. Unlike the fleeting moment the last time, this time, she was truly standing on the earth, feeling the world with her own body. Besides her, the other girls were seeing Pannis’s Inherent Psychic Domain for the first time, or even witnessing the Inherent Psychic Domain of a Demigod, of course, except for Freya, who had seen it many times from her own father already.
What appeared before the girls was an endless desert. The sky was black like ink, the darkness seemed very close to the ground, close enough to cause oppression and unease. Three bright moons hung in the dark sky, although the three ladies of the night were glowing, they could not dispel the darkness in the sky. Beneath the sky, the earth was covered with yellow sand, filled with howling winds and sandstorms. Hiding beneath the sand were countless white human bones, scattered throughout the desert, exposed to the erosion of wind and sand.
Atop a pile of white bones as tall as a mountain, a female figure stood. She had long black hair, silver full-body armor, a lance in hand, standing beside her. She was looking up at the moon in the sky, just as Nellie had done hundreds of years ago on the outskirts of the Sighing Desert, about to step into the battlefield, leaning on Kyle’s shoulder. Her determined and clear gaze met the moon in the sky, it was hard to guess what she was thinking. The girls suddenly entered into the domain, but the shadow of the knight showed no reaction, as if it noticed nothing. The girls, except for Catherine, were taken aback. No one had expected to see a human in Pannis’s psychic domain.
"That is a shadow in my memory." Pannis hung her head, unwilling to look at Nellie’s appearance, she said softly, "That’s how she looks in my memory, shaped along with my domain. It’s not real, you don’t need to be surprised."
Catherine was not surprised though, she had already locked eyes with Nellie’s phantom in the Shining Forest’s Tempest Corridor before. Therefore, she had been mentally prepared. Even though she knew that it wasn’t Nellie, she clenched her fist and knocked on her chest plate, saluting Nellie in the traditional knight’s gesture, showing her respect.
Although the girls had imagined Nellie’s appearance in paintings and descriptions many times, it was their first time seeing her in person. In the paintings of legendary heroes, the images of the heroes are always extremely beautified. No one had guessed that the heroic female knight was just an ordinary-looking girl. If it were not for the firmness and valor in her eyes, even if she was in full knight’s armor, it would be hard to believe that she was a true knight, and moreover, a paragon of knights.
However, the girls didn’t have much time to look at Nellie’s image. After all, they didn’t come to Pannis’s Inherent Psychic Domain to sightsee. They didn’t enter alone; three demigod-ranked magical beasts came in with them. This was the reason they entered the Psychic Domain to fight side by side.
Even the Lizardmen rarely saw the full appearance of the Marsh Stalkers. They hid themselves in deep marshes all year round, and they never exposed their bodies above the ground. When they needed to hunt, they would stretch out their long tentacles from the bottom of the marsh, sensing everything outside through fine tendrils around their suckers, by detecting wind flow and temperature changes. A Marsh Stalker could possibly live its whole life without surfacing from the mud, even in death sinking directly into the silt. Therefore, when they saw the stalkers in the Psychic Domain, the girls all had the same first thought: "So that’s what they look like."
The body of the Marsh Stalkers is peculiar. Their main part is a long oval-shaped mass, shaped a bit like an olive pit, with thin ends and a thicker middle. Around the two ends, there are some shorter fine tentacles, whereas around the thicker part are hundreds of thick long tentacles. This kind of body shape allows it to shuttle back and forth in the mud very conveniently. It makes sense they never leave the swamp, their bodies are practically shaped to live in the swamp.
"That’s disgusting." Despite having gained experience from the Deep Sea Octopus Clan, the girls felt a wave of instinctive disgust when they saw such a creature with hundreds of tentacles. Lina frowned, drawing a standard square shape on her chest and whispering: "Blessings of Denia, if possible, I don’t want to see them a second time."
One would have to admit, Lina was right. The stalker’s image was simply disgusting. It wasn’t obvious when only the tentacles were exposed, but once the entire body appeared, the revulsion intensified. Their tentacles were black with numerous suckers growing on them. The suckers were constantly secreting lubricating mucus. Meanwhile, their bodies were pale white, probably due to them hiding in the mud and never seeing the light. On their bodies, a thick mucus was secreted, covered in mud from the swamp, slimy and nauseating. Worse still, there was a lump of flesh growing at the base of each tentacle. Hundreds of lumps of different sizes covered the creature’s body, making it look like an abnormal monster.
"I doubt anyone would ever want to see that again." Freya’s hands were continuously busy, with numerous metal parts appearing and disappearing in her hands. She would assemble the small parts into larger components that could quickly transform into battle-ready machines when needed. An experienced mechanic, like her, would always keep the parts in their hands ready to be assembled for battle at the fastest speed. If they waited until battle started to begin assembly, it would be too late.
They had time to converse only because Pannis cleverly controlled the positioning of both sides when pulling them into the domain, keeping a distance of more than two hundred meters between them.
The three demigod rank magical beasts suddenly found that their prey had disappeared and that they had left the familiar swamp to arrive at a place they couldn’t understand. For a moment, they waved their tentacles around in confusion, not knowing what to do. (To be continued. If you like this work, please visit qidian.com and vote for it.
