Chapter 758: Chapter 23: Demigod Rank Magical Beast_1
"Hiss hiss?" Galantis was startled, her speech inflection even changing as she said incredulously, "Ganet, you’re going to fight a Demigod magical beast by yourself? Hiss hiss hiss, are you out of your mind, Ganet? After becoming Legendary, has the vast surge of power made you lose your sense? Thinking you and your tribe alone can hunt a Demogod-level magical beast. Hisssss. You guys have a large population, so you’re preparing to use this as a method of attrition? Hisssss, have you thought about how upset she would be if your mother found out? What on earth are you thinking?"
Galantis is very smart, perhaps this comes naturally to her. Her objections and accusations were all targeted at Ganet, someone her own age. But the words made Graneer extremely uncomfortable and unable to argue back, his pale scales even reddened a bit. But Galantis’ anger did not fade, she continued to rant: "Even if you kill it, what then? Does that prove your courage? How are you going to explain the large number of missing warriors from your tribe? Use internal tribal affairs as an excuse? Do you even consider us as your kin?"
"Thump". Pannis placed his large hand on the smooth top of Galantis’ head. The scales of the Lizard Lady were smooth and hard to the touch, and cool, making it a comfortable feeling. Feeling the familiar warmth from the hand on her head, Galantis felt her anger quickly subsiding, leaving behind only the resentment that she felt on behalf of her mother - almost to the point of tears. Pannis expertly rubbed her head and spoke in a low voice, "Galantis, calm down. Try to have some patience and trust your kin. They must have their reasons for doing this. Think about Alcmene. If she were in your position, would she treat her kin the same way, raging without asking any questions?"
"Hiss hiss." Galantis rubbed her head against Pannis’s hand, she had completely calmed down, nodded slightly, turned to Graneer and bowed, "I’m sorry, Grandfather Graneer. I was a little impulsive earlier. I apologize for any lack of respect on my part. I hope you can forgive my impertinence."
"Well, it’s nothing, hiss hiss." The old Lizardman forced a smile, "Actually, you’re not wrong, we have definitely made some mistakes. Being scolded by you does not bother me. However, Mister Kyle..."
"My name is Pannis, don’t get it wrong." Even though the young ladies knew his identity, hearing his former name made Pannis feel awkward. He couldn’t help but correct, "Please, just call me Pannis."
"Alright then, hiss hiss, Pannis." The old Lizardman knew that these demigods who stood at the pinnacle of living beings all had some peculiar habits, so he said nonchalantly, "I wanted to ask you, did you genuinely feel the energy of a demigod?"
"I really did feel it, I was not lying to you." Pannis nodded, "The energy was incredibly well hidden. If it weren’t for being a demigod myself, and being so close, I wouldn’t have sensed it. Additionally, that energy is continuously moving, but visually, I could not trace it. This is very strange, could it be moving within the marshes?"
"Yes, it should be moving within the marshes, hiss hiss." The old Lizardman sighed, forcing a smile, " It seems our judgement was not wrong. It indeed appears there is a Demigod magical beast lurking in our hunting grounds."
"Grandfather Graneer, hiss hiss, what exactly is going on?" Galantis resumed her earlier courteous tone, "What type of beast is it? A Swamp Hydra? Herm... Hydras usually do not migrate until after this season, and they do not like lurking in marshes. Or to put it another way, they despise hiding, hiss hiss."
"It’s not a Hydra." The old Lizardman shook his head, "We believe it’s a Marsh Stalker."
"What? Hisssss. That isn’t possible." Galantis exclaimed in disbelief. "I have never heard of a Demigod Rank Stalker, the highest has only ever been Legendary Rank. Are you entirely certain? Are you sure you did not mistake it for another creature?"
"I am certain, hisss. When I was young, my best friend died at the hands of a Stalker. I will not get it wrong," the old Lizardman stated confidently. "I’ve personally seen a few of the locations where our kinsmen have gone missing. Without a doubt, these are marks left by a Stalker. That’s why I believe it’s a Marsh Stalker. Plus, I felt a Demigod’s gravity in the traces. If I hadn’t seen those signs left by the Stalker with my own eyes, I would not believe there could exist a Demigod Rank Stalker."
"If so, then why choose to handle it yourself?" Galantis posed the unavoidable question, "Why didn’t you seek her help? After all, she was the only demigod in the marshes, doesn’t she seem to be the first choice when dealing with a Demigod Rank beast?"
"Hiss hiss hiss, it’s because we weren’t certain. Until just now, I wasn’t even sure if it was a Demigod. Maybe we made a mistake, hisssss." Graneer sighed deeply, "In fact, my initial reaction was the same as yours - I refused to believe that a Stalker could be a Demigod. We held onto some hope and maintained that it was just a powerful, Legendary Rank beast. Think about it, if we sought help from the High Priest for a mere Legendary Rank beast, we would completely lose face. Besides, the High Priest has retired and her health isn’t in good condition. To bother her with such unspecific suspicions would provoke criticism from other tribes. So we decided to organize a mass hunt to hopefully lure the Stalker out. If we can confirm the enemy is indeed a Demigod Rank Stalker, Ganet and I will hold it off, allowing the rest of the tribe to retreat. Once we have confirmation, we can then ask the High Priest for her aid."
"Hiss, I see." Galantis understood the two legendary-ranked male Lizardmen’s perspective after some thought. She sighed, "Your concerns do make sense, even though I don’t agree with your methods. Let’s leave that behind for now. Since Uncle Pannis has helped confirm the existence of a Demigod Rank beast, the plan can be changed, right? First, let’s go and report to my mother, this is too dangerous otherwise."
"There’s no need for that." Pannis seemed greatly intrigued by this problem. The usually laid-back Pannis, who would usually avoid issues if he could, willingly said,"You guys find a way to lure it out, I will handle it for you."
