Chapter 751: Chapter 16 Unmentionable History_1
The Tear of the Gods, also known as the Tears of the Goddess, is said to have been formed from the tears of the hunting goddess. At the start of the Third Epoch, Artemis, one of the chief deities of the Forest Gods, and the other deities of the Forest Gods together created the elf race. However, due to her divine duty of hunting, she had a severe conflict with several chief gods who lean towards the Life Deity System. As a result, she left the forest to enter the marsh alone and single-handedly created the race of Lizardmen. Although later, under the mediation of the Earth Goddess Denia, the two parties reconciled, the Lizardman race had already been created and occupied a place on earth. Therefore, Artemis had two children under her name, the Elves and Lizardmen.
Since the legend had it that Artemis created the Lizardmen by the Tear of the Gods, the Lizardmen who worship Artemis regard the Tear of the Gods as the origin and holy place of their race. Many Lizardmen come here to worship every year, expressing their piety to the deities. However, unlike the Beastmen, who are accustomed to blocking the sacred place and making it forbidden for anyone other than clergy and highly respected individuals, the Lizardmen believe that the lake, Tear of the Gods, is a grace gifted by the Goddess to the marsh, and no one has the right to monopolize it. The sacred place is open to all creatures. Anyone can enjoy the grace of the deities around the Tear of the Gods, as long as they do not blaspheme against them. Some tribes even settle by the lake, and a significant portion of their food comes from fishing in the lake.
"We thank the Goddess for granting us life." At the Tear of the Gods in the early morning, the lake is diffused with swirling mist, and the air is filled with a faint sweetness. The sound of frogs that had been going on all night gradually came to a halt, while the invisible birds and beasts hiding in the marsh forest began their day of chirping. On the reeds by the lake, large droplets of dew hang, reflecting sunlight, radiating a seven-colored glow. The lizard man, Galantis, kneels by the lake, devoutly scoops up a handful of lake water and sprinkles it over his head. Bathed in the lake water, it feels as if he is bathed in Artemis’ divine grace, and he whispers prayers of gratitude: "We thank the Goddess for granting us endless food and clean water. May the glory of the Goddess, like the lake and marsh, always be with us."
No one interrupts, even though others do not share the same faith in the Hunting Goddess Artemis, they must offer at least the minimum respect to her and will not rudely interrupt a devout believer’s prayers.
"Alright, hiss, sorry for the wait." After nearly ten minutes of prayer, Galantis jumps up from the lakeside and says with joy: "But don’t worry, from here, we can reach our tribe by today, hiss, just in time for dinner, hiss, my mother makes the best dinner. Hiss, I’ve walked this path too many times, I can definitely keep the time right, you can rest assured."
"That’s good." Everyone has already packed their belongings. Catherine nodded, but asked somewhat doubts: "The camp above, won’t the mud left uncleaned affect the growth of suguwood?"
"No problem, hiss, this way of camping is the most convenient." Galantis explained: "As long as it rains, all the mud on top will be washed away, hiss, and it won’t have any impact at all. Therefore, we people who live in the marsh when we go out hunting, all like to use this way to spend the night, hiss, it’s just too convenient."
"Hiss, hiss hiss hiss." A series of unique hissing sounds of the lizard man suddenly came from the lake. Upon closer inspection, one can see a few small boats floating in the distance on the lake, and the hissing sounds came from the direction of the boats. By normal standards, a hiss is a low sound, not too loud, and not capable of travelling a long distance. But the unique language of the lizard people has strong penetrability. Although it’s not high in volume, it can diffuse quite a distance. Upon hearing this hiss, Galantis’ face lit up with joy, his tail wagging like windmill toys, and he responds with a series of different pitched hisses. They both started to exchange greetings across the vast lake, with utterly incomprehensible noises.
"What are they saying?" The girls all looked at Pannis in unison, and the most curious, Lina, asked in a low voice while Galantis’ attention was all on the communication: "Can you translate?"
"Yeah." Pannis nodded, facing the four girls’ curious eyes and Ava’s indifferent gaze, he softly replied: "They are saying, hiss hiss hiss, hiss hiss hiss and hiss hiss hiss, oh, and hiss hiss hiss hiss."
"You idiot Pannis." Lina felt a throbbing vein on her forehead and playfully kicked Pannis, discontentedly saying: "You did that on purpose, you know what I meant, translate it into the common language."
"The problem is, I don’t understand either." Pannis said with a bitter smile: "The language of the lizard people has very strong racial characteristics. I tried to learn it, but I couldn’t at all, even listening is hard, let alone speaking it. Their language is even harder to comprehend than the frost spirits’; I’d rather converse with the frost spirits’ dingdong language than hiss hiss hiss. Speaking of frost spirits, I seem to have forgotten something again, hahaha."
"I remembered for you." Catherine gave Pannis a look: "Even if you want to forget, I will remind you to give the frost spirits wine. If you forget them this time, they’re probably going to hate you."
"That’s one of the uncles from a nearby tribe." As the boat on the lake got closer and closer, Galantis turned back and said, "I used to see them fishing on the lake often, hiss, and even caused them some trouble when I was little, hehe. He used to like me a lot; he would give us a few fishes as dinner whenever I came with other people to play."
Meanwhile, one of the boats got closer and closer. An old Lizardman with white scales on the boat, was pushing his small boat with a suguwood bar, waving at us, and shouting in awkward common language from afar: "Hey, child of the Great Priest, you brought some human friends to play this time, hiss, it looks like I have seen one of you before."
"Ha, ha, ha, haven’t seen me." Pannis laughed drily and shook his head vigorously: "Absolutely haven’t seen me before."
"Hahaha, hiss hiss hiss, I remember now." The old Lizardman suddenly burst into laughter, pointing at Pannis and saying: "I remember you, you are the human who was dragged underwater by that beastly fish from the lake, and ended up being dragged around the lake, hahaha. Even as a demigod, there are not many people who can have a whole day of struggle with that monstrous fish while remaining unscathed in the end, the old folks around here probably all remember that."( to be continued.
