Chapter 738: Chapter 3 Bright and Beautiful Young Girls_1
"Alright, haven’t you all had enough fun?" Pannis wailed loudly from outside the door. "We agreed to have dinner together after we all changed clothes. I’m almost starving to death now, but you guys won’t come out. Please, have mercy on someone who’s near death by starvation. It’s the year 3693 now, agricultural development has practically eradicated starvation worldwide. If you let a pitiful man starve to death in an inn, it will surely become big news and make headlines in the Holy City. By then, you five heartless people will become public figures. You surely wouldn’t want that to happen, would you?"
"Silly Pannis, what’s the rush?" Upon hearing these pitiful complaints from outside, there was a moment of silence in the room, followed by the girls exchanging smiles. Lina, with a hand over her laughing mouth, retorted, "Don’t you know that a gentleman should patiently wait for ladies to get dressed?"
"But I’m not a gentleman." Pannis wailed even louder, "I’m just a pitiful man on the verge of starvation."
"Alright, alright, didn’t we agree earlier to wait until we finished changing?" Catherine chuckled and reassured, "Be patient. Dressing up takes a bit of time. Don’t worry, hehe."
"But you didn’t say I’d have to wait for an hour." Pannis’s voice sounded even more pitiful, "I’m nearly fainting."
"Ah." A soft gasp escaped from the girls in the room. Time always flies when women are grooming and changing clothes. Even the most time-conscious among them, such as Catherine, could lose track of time at moments like this. They all felt as though they had only taken a moment to tidy up. The surprise of realizing an entire hour had passed was fully justified. Pannis’s pitiful cries outside the door were not surprising either. The girls gathered together and giggled. Catherine, the only one fully attired, playfully stuck her tongue out. She then opened the door a crack, stuck her head out with an apologetic smile, and said, "I’m sorry, I’m sorry. We were having too much fun and lost track of the time. I apologize for keeping you waiting so long. We’ll be done soon. Could you please wait a few more minutes? Hehe, thank you."
Watching the usually serious Catherine laughing and apologizing, Pannis touched his forehead helplessly and mumbled, "As you wish, my noble knight. But please hurry."
"Of course, no problem," Catherine nodded energetically, "We’re almost done. Just a few more minutes."
As it turns out, even a knight like Catherine can’t be trusted when it comes to promises about time while dressing up. These professional adventuresses may be able to ignore their grimy surroundings during an adventure, disregarding the muck and sweat covering them while performing tasks usually done by men, falling asleep right after a day’s adventure, and even getting used to not bathing or changing clothes for two to three weeks. However, they’re still young girls at the end of the day. Whenever possible, their feminine instincts kick in, desiring to present their best selves to others. They’re ready to spend a substantial amount of time to appear as neat and tidy as any ordinary person.
So, poor Pannis had no choice but to continue waiting outside the door. Half an hour later, the young girls with their faint fragrances, and dazzling appearances stood before him. Their dresses were not ostentatious, just simple long cloth skirts. They wore no jewelry, and no makeup adorned their faces. Yet, to Pannis, who had only seen them looking dirty and grimy for months, and particularly because Vivian—who usually washed up—was now forbidden to do anything more than recover from their past adventures, their natural beauty was blinding. He stared dumbly at them for some time, until Lina "accidentally" gave his foot a fierce stomp, snapping him back to reality. Scratching his head in confusion he asked, "Strange, why does my foot hurt?"
"That’s just an illusion." Lina shifted her weight, putting most of her body on Pannis’s foot. With a holy smile on her face, she merrily continued like a true clergywoman, "It must be because you are so hungry that you are hallucinating."
"But it doesn’t feel like that," Pannis painfully retorted, "In fact, I think it’s getting worse."
"I told you it’s just an illusion." Lina smiled visibly brighter, gave Pannis’s foot an extra grind and spoke in an oddly divine voice, "Perhaps you were staring at Catherine and Vivian for too long, and their beauty has intoxicated you, causing this intense hallucination. I suggest you get your eyes treated. It might help to alleviate the symptoms of your hallucination, right?"
"I think it would be better to treat the external injury first," Pannis was almost in tears, "If I don’t get my foot treated now, I’m afraid it might need to be amputated."
"Stop fooling around, you two." Catherine gently tapped Lina’s head from behind, ruffled her silver hair, and pulled her off Pannis’ foot, saving him from the fate of amputation. After pulling Lina away, Catherine winked mysteriously at her. Her playful gaze hinted at understanding hidden depths of the heart, making one feel as if their thoughts were being read. This sent the emotionally complex Lina blushing and lowering her head.
"Alright, let’s go eat. I’m so hungry I could eat all the food in the entire city." Freya, who had been observing the girls’ comical yet slightly ambiguous atmosphere, closed her eyes to hide the spark in them and casually commented, "If we keep wasting time like this, we’ll miss the dining hours and will have to huddle in the room gnawing on dry bread."
Freya’s timely comment dissipated the strange yet slightly ambiguous atmosphere among the girls. Lina’s gaze darted around, her hands unconsciously flipping through the novel she was holding in front of her as she lowered her head to divert her attention, trying to hide her embarrassment. With a small cough, Catherine also chimed in, nodding, "Indeed, it’s getting late. Let’s all go to the dining hall together. Although some people are hungry enough to eat all the food in the entire city, today’s ration for her is only four pieces of bread and three slices of smoked meat. For the rest of the day, she can only watch us eat happily. How pitiful..."(To be continued. If you like this work, please vote and recommend it on qidian.com. Your support is my greatest motivation.
