Chapter 736: Door to the Past - Restless Undead (Two Chapters combined, one update today)_1

No one expected the exploration of the upper levels of the temple to be entirely without incident, just as before entering this death space, no one believed they could enter the temple almost unimpeded. Not only the other demigods, but even Kyle himself did not expect the exploration of the upper temple to be so smooth. Hence, they intentionally formed groups of three members before setting out. This way, if they encountered any hidden dangers or traps laid by unknown enemies, each group would have sufficient combat power to deal with them. Even though the undead were strong, the trio of demigods working together in each group was enough to handle any crisis, no matter how powerful the assailants were, they had enough combat power to hold up until their comrades came to their aid.

However, Kyle had miscalculated this time. After they divided into groups and moved to different areas, they did not encounter any danger even when they had finished exploring all the areas. There was no fight whatsoever. Even though the people who had died had decomposed into dry bones, just as Flare mentioned, there was no sign of them turning into the undead. They remained as dead as dead could be.

"So, does everyone’s situation remain the same?" After the groups reconvened, Kyle, with his arms folded and brows furrowed, said, "Apart from the staircase leading downwards that Philarx’s group discovered, there were no other clues, no secret doors or traps. Just a great number of corpses in every room?"

"Yes." The noble Elf Queen spoke with a low, magnetic voice, "Elder Finch’s group had Mr. Aske, and I was with Philarx and Lady Mina. Tiya and Christo were together; oh, and Dillie. Master Klarke was with you two. All the groups had members capable of detecting hidden mechanisms, but we didn’t find anything suspicious. I believe that we can assert that there are no hidden areas or items."

"Upon careful thought, this seems normal." Nellie, with her air of a woman of action, had an impeccable aura about her. Even in her casual attire, standing in a crowd, she would immediately be recognized by others as a knight. Her voice was resolute, like that of a stone, "After all, this is the Main Shrine of Danacus, the most important place for the Church of Death and a place where the High Priest and fanatics of Danacus lived. It was their home. Who would lay traps in their own house? As for secret doors, only those who live in a constant state of unease would secure their home with a multitude of secret passages and doors to conceal their secrets and prepare for retreat. The priests and followers who dedicated their lives and souls to Danacus would not need a plethora of traps and secret tunnels in their fortress, the Main Shrine. This outcome seems plausible to me."

"Well, there are churches like that." The Elf Queen’s eyes twinkled. She gazed at the ground and spoke slowly, "It is said that during the Divine War at the end of the Third Epoch, the deity Todd, who controlled deceit and lies, ruled that way. His Church of Lies was filled with confusing traps and labyrinth-like secret tunnels. Anyone who wanted to attack any of his shrines had to pay a great price and would still struggle to conquer it. If it weren’t for the betrayal of his subordinate gods, which resulted in the fall of most of the primary gods in Todd’s line, Todd might still have controlled deceit and lies, and the City of Innocence might not be as it is now."

"Oh, so that’s how it is." Nellie’s gaze was as sharp as a sword when observing an enemy, but now it was tender as she looked at Flare. In her eyes, there was a hint of comfort and apology, "Thank you, Your Majesty. This is the first time I have heard about this secret. If it weren’t for your reminder, I might have been blinded by my own experiences and thoughts and could have made a mistake in our future actions. I am grateful for your explanation."

"No need to be so formal." Flare’s smile was somewhat helpless; she gave an almost imperceptible sigh and shook her head, "Previous generations who knew these secrets have likely passed them down only amongst some long-lived races. It’s understandable that you wouldn’t know."

"Ahem." Kyle, seemingly oblivious to all this, cleared his throat and said, "Since no one found anything hidden, let’s not waste any more time and explore the lower levels. The Temple of Danacus in the Death World is the only building in this Dead World. I think the chance of finding clues about the Divine Soul here is incredibly high. It’s unlikely that we won’t find a single clue. Therefore, please be aware during our exploration of the lower levels. If anyone discovers a detail that I have overlooked, do remind me as soon as possible. After all, an individual’s power is finite. By working together, we can bring together everyone’s strength to make this smooth. Thank you, everyone. Now, Philarx, Your Majesty, and Lady Mina, please lead the way. Let’s discover what secret is hidden beneath the Death Temple."

Philarx pulled her hood down and grunted as a response. As a guardian, Lady Mina was not fond of speaking in public and usually only engaged in discussion when she was with her familiar companions. Thankfully, there was Flare. The young yet mature Elf Queen, due to her status, had abundant experience in socializing. After quickly overcoming the frustration of her discreet attack being met with a bizarre and ambiguous response a few minutes earlier, she wore a serene, gentle smile. She extended an invitation using elvish etiquette, "Please follow us, my Lords. We will lead the way. The staircase leading to the lower levels is not too far from here. If everything goes smoothly, we should be able to reach it within five minutes."
