Chapter 732: Chapter 93 Pannis Mind Classroom_1

"How does it feel to hear my voice? Must be comforting, huh? Although I can’t have the same comfort, because I can’t hear your voice, it’s a one-way communication. Isn’t it strange that I can speak to you directly?" Pannis’s voice began to lack seriousness again, teasingly adding, "This is a conversation that happens directly between souls. Do you know why the Whispering Swamp to the southeast has such an odd name? It’s because such bizarre Soul Whispers often occur above the swamp. You’re right, you’d have guessed, this is the race-based talent of the Lizardmen, ha ha, but I coincidentally learned it, I’m cool, aren’t I?"

"Are you a lizard? Idiot!" Even knowing that he couldn’t hear her, Vivian couldn’t help expressing her contempt in her mind: "You just said only they could master it, but then you say you’ve learned it, is your brain the same as a lizard’s?"

"Well, actually, I was fooling you, I didn’t learn it at all, you were tricked, weren’t you?" Pannis’s voice was full of smugness, Vivian could almost imagine him, hands on hips, laughing smugly: "I tried to learn before, but I found out that I couldn’t. I’m not a lizard, and I can’t stick my tongue out."

"I wasn’t tricked at all." Vivian, being provoked by Pannis, almost forgot about her pain, just wanted to rub her forehead and yell at him: "How stupid do you have to be to believe such a ridiculous lie, you dummy. No, that’s not the point, the point is I can’t go on, I feel terrible."

"No more kidding. Seriously though, it genuinely is the race-based talent of the Lizardmen. Whenever they communicate with other races, they primarily use this communicating style, which is why it’s called the Whispering Swamp. Curious about why they opt for such a tedious method? The structure of their bodies is only fit for making hissing sounds, spoken language would take considerable effort, that’s why they mostly choose Soul Whisper." Pannis, undeterred by Vivian’s inner outcry, continued: "As for why I can use this method? More than a hundred years ago, the previous hunting priest of the Lizardmen, also the spiritual leader of all the lizard tribes, made a Whisper Crystal. Over thousands of years, no hunting priest ever made this crystal before, but because of two people who did something critically important for all the Lizardmen more than a hundred years ago. This thing was not important to them and they considered the Lizardmen friends, so they refused any rewards. However, one of them was very interested in the Soul Whisper and tried to learn it, so the hunting priest, drawing upon the power of the entire tribe, made a Whisper Crystal. After destroying it, one can use the Soul Whisper for ten minutes, interesting right? Later, for certain reasons, this crystal became mine. You know the reason, ha ha ha, I find it quite fascinating, so I kept it."

Vivian suddenly felt a heartfelt touch. Although Pannis talked about it lightly, from his words it was clear that this crystal probably was unique in the world and of great sentimental value, but he used it without hesitation to contact her. However, his next words turned all her touched feelings into laughter and annoyance.

"Felt touched, didn’t you? I actually fooled you again, those crystals are all over the Whispering Swamp." Pannis’s voice made people want to punch him: "Alright alright, let’s talk seriously now, look at you, always going off-topic."

"You should’ve been talking seriously from the start." Vivian had almost completely forgotten her pain. Although she knew that those crystals couldn’t possibly be scattered all over the place, otherwise, she should’ve heard about it by now and Pannis said so only to comfort her, she still felt like hitting somebody due to Pannis’s tone, berating him silently, "And who the hell has been going off-topic, barging into someone’s soul only to talk nonsense, and then turn around to blame me, just how bored can you get."

"No more joking. Let’s discuss serious matters now. I know you must be in a great deal of pain now. Painful enough to wish for death." Pannis finally became solemn, spoke slowly, firmly and powerfully: "I don’t want to counsel you, just want to tell you a story."

Vivian was starting to feel less, but as soon as Pannis mentioned pain, all the agony came rushing back, engulfing her once again. Helplessly she screamed in her soul: "I don’t want to listen, I want to die, I want to give up."

However, Pannis still couldn’t hear Vivian’s inner voice and continued in a steady powerful voice, saying: "This story was told to me by a lion, always prattling bizarre tales. The story is long and irrelevant to the present, so I’ll only tell you the related part. In the story, there was a group of people, rather bored... mercenaries, I guess. Those mercenaries never accepted assignments but were always fighting for some inane reasons. Anyways, a powerful group of these mercenaries once attacked another group. Unexpectedly, they triggered a trap used by their opponents and got stuck in a cave with the entrance sealed off with countless stones. Of course, I did question why they would all rush into a cave when they were supposed to be fighting, but I nearly got bitten for asking, so I gave up probing and took it as fact. They tried several tactics to escape the cave but couldn’t, losing hope in the process. Only one person persisted in trying to dig a way out with the weapon in his hand. Despite his best efforts, he couldn’t dig a way out. He was tired and hungry, having lost all his strength, and eventually, he and his fellow mercenaries died in the cave. A few hundred years later, by chance, someone threw some stones or a weapon onto the mountain and opened a large hole. Turns out the digging mercenary was almost through, one more swing of his weapon, one more dig, and all of them could have escaped."

In her spiritual world, Vivian calmed down, stopped shout objections about giving up, and fell into contemplation, muttering to herself: "So you’re saying, you struggled to get in here just to tell me that whenever we think we’ve reached a dead end, when we can’t hold on any longer, when we think all hope is lost, we just need to persevere a little longer, hold on for a few more seconds, and the situation might change, and hope could possibly come out of nowhere?"

"What do you think the purpose of my relaying this story to you is? To tell you that perseverance would bring about hope? Or that people typically give up when they are just a centimeter away from success? No, no, no. That’s not what I’m saying." Pannis fell silent for a moment before saying passionately, "I’m trying to say, before embarking on an adventure, it’s important to prepare appropriate tools and enough food. If the people in the story were as well-prepared as we are on our adventures and had an alloy shovel suitable for digging, they wouldn’t have jeopardized their digging efficiency due to an inappropriate tool. If they have enough food, they also wouldn’t starve to death before digging their way out. As you see, I always prepare thoroughly, not only with enough food - we’re right now sitting by your sarcophagus, oh no, sitting by your healing device, eating snow-rat porridge - but also carrying this Whisper Crystal. I felt it might come in handy anytime, and it turns out I was right. Ha-ha! I’m really very smart, even more genius than you."

If she were in the real world now, Vivian felt she would have already thrown over a dozen Fireball Techniques at Pannis. Unfortunately, she couldn’t do anything at the moment and could only clench her teeth in her consciousness, pretending that she was biting into Pannis’ flesh.

"Well, how about it? After hearing this story, do you desperately want to hit me or curse me?" Pannis’ voice was even more irritating, "Unfortunately, you can only listen now. I can’t hear your curses, and you can’t hit me. Hehe, I’m not scared."

"You just wait." Vivian was filled with a renewed will to survive, but this time her desire to survive resulted from her aggressive will. "You’ll see how I take revenge on you when I wake up. Idiot Pannis, you’ve gotten stupider."

"Actually, I understand how you feel. For a long time, I wanted to die, and I tried many ways, but sometimes dying can be difficult. For some reason, I still haven’t truly died." Pannis exhaled sadly before speaking seriously for the first time, "I always thought that it was her punishment on me, letting me live and suffer from inner torment, but recently I realized that it may not be a punishment. She was just trying to make me live on in her own way until I could truly understand myself without evading. Death is indeed a wonderful escape, but once we choose death, we’ll lose something that we can only have when we’re alive. You should know what that is, right? If we choose death, we’ll lose hope forever. The hope for redemption, the hope to understand ourselves, and the hope for curing diseases will all disappear. So, are you really prepared to give up hope and stop holding on?"

Vivian breathed a sigh in her heart. Pannis was right, but the pain she had never experienced before was making her unable to hold on; even if she knew these truths, they didn’t make a difference.

"So, after hearing me out, have you reignited your will to live? Or, due to the pain, are you still insisting on giving up treatment?" Pannis’s irritating voice returned, "But it doesn’t matter what you think now, hehe, you’ve been tricked. All I’ve been saying is nonsense, I’m just here to buy time. Now, the treatment is over, it’s too late if you want to die. Ha-ha-ha, wake up, my girl!" (To be continued.
