Chapter 723: Chapter 84 The Sparks of Battle (Something urgent came up today, only have 4000)_1

As Herr looked at Pannis, Pannis also saw Herr. Despite the substantial transformation in Herr’s appearance, Pannis knew exactly who the person in front of him was without needing to think. It went both ways. There were irreconcilable differences between them. Each would have imprinted the other’s energy signature deep in memory, never to forget for a moment.

Therefore, the moment their gazes intersected, a sharp booming sound resonated in the air. In the echo, the two had already moved from their original positions, abruptly appearing in the midpoint between them. There was no conversation, no argument. Any words were superfluous in this situation. There was no need for language; all that was needed was battle, a life-or-death battle. They both had the same state of mind, and from the very beginning, the fiercest clash ensued. Herr’s scythe clashed with Pannis’s one-handed sword; the scythe’s tip met just at the ridge of the sword. The conflict of energies formed a small shock wave, scattering the frozen snow on the ground.

"Hmph." Pannis grunted, couldn’t help but take a step back. A hint of surprise appeared in his eyes. He did not know what exactly Herr had done. He had assessed Herr’s strength based on their previous encounter aboard the Skyboat, unable to prepare for this contingency. Halting a little in the initial exchange. However, Herr was not any better off. He too had estimated the battle based on Pannis’s strength he saw on the Skyboat. He could not imagine that Pannis had made a significant leap forward in power due to their similar backgrounds.

The two each stepped back a stride, sizing each other up again, and immediately brandished their weapons once more, entangling anew. Once the battle reignited, it was a direct confrontation between their strengths, skills, and wills. There was no evasion, not even a slight dodge. Each attack and defense was a veritable showdown between weapons and physical bodies.

Herr’s scythe stirred up ice and snow, shredding the omnipresent chilly wind. Each swing was accompanied by a sharp hissing sound as the air was torn apart. The scythe roared, from left to right and top to bottom, along an uncertain path, combining speed and skill, striking down relentlessly. Pannis swung his one-handed sword in a horizontal arc, appearing slow but in reality fast. Before the attack range of the scythe encompassed him, his one-handed sword had already sideways collided with the icy scythe, absorbing the considerable force it carried.

"Boom." A symphonous explosion of energy reverberated through the air. Hidden within the sparks and sounds generated by the weapon collision was a sly and subtle kick from Pannis, aimed at a tricky angle. However, as an equally powerful opponent with more battle experience, Herr had sensed the kick early on and responded with a similar action. Thus, their legs, carrying their maximum power, met. From where their legs connected, another shockwave swept out horizontally.

Attack, defend, attack, defend. The clashing of metal and booming of energy echoed incessantly across the icy plains. Neither Pannis nor Herr had engaged in such a strenuous head-on clash with anyone for over a hundred years. Both, with bloodshot eyes due to the strain of their energy unleashed and teeth gritted, locked gazes of hatred in midst of the ferocious struggle.

"Hey!" After another weapon collision, Herr suddenly yelled. Using the recoil from the weapon collision, he skillfully swung the hilt of the scythe behind him, just in time to block a dagger that had been thrust out from thin air. The appearance of the dagger was silent and came from an extremely strange angle, but it was still blocked by Herr, "Don’t think I forgot your existence, damnable Sand People assassin. I’ve been waiting for you to show up from the start."

"It’s you who are damned." Aske paid no heed to Herr’s words. When his initial strike failed, he immediately disappeared into the shadow cast by Herr under the sunlight, leaving no trace behind. Pannis answered Herr. He changed his sideways swing to a thrust. The swiftly moving sword tip tore through the air, emitting a hissing sound.

"I’m already dead." Herr sneered, his scythe’s point deflecting the thrusting one-handed sword. He swept across Pannis’s body in a stooped pull, slicing towards Pannis’s neck with the scythe’s reverse edge: "You foolish beings will never understand, death is the only eternity. So, why don’t you join me."

"Your thinking is reasonable, but pointless. I’m not going to die, especially not by your hand. You don’t believe me? Just try it." Though Pannis failed to recover his deviated one-handed sword in time, he suddenly bent his knee, avoiding the scythe’s blade while simultaneously moving closer to Herr. His left fist struck at Herr’s abdomen. Unknown to when, a blackened arm blade had been strapped onto his wrist. Its three glossy yet sharp spikes gave off a dangerous aura.

"Hmph, alright then." Herr grunted coldly. The hilt of his scythe pushed Pannis’s forearm blade away, yet he did not bar Pannis from entering his cautionary zone. When Pannis got closer, Herr suddenly smirked eerily. The scythe spun around himself and unexpectedly it appeared with thirty edges simultaneously, sealing off the space in front of him from every direction.

However, Pannis also laughed, sounding even more uncanny than Herr. Just when it looked like he was about to be chopped into pieces, Pannis vanished from his spot and seemed to have never been there.

Half a second. Half a second was all it took for the target to disappear and all the blade edges to fail to land a strike. Nevertheless, it was this half-second that caused Herr to involuntarily contracted his pupils and tightened his face. After Pannis vanished for half a second, an ochre shadow suddenly appeared. It was Aske, almost flat on the ground, he slid on the ice to Herr’s front. In his hand, the dagger was nigh at Herr’s abdomen from an angle that the scythe couldn’t block.

Herr tensed his entire body and abruptly let out a sharp shriek. The eye that had mostly stayed half-open on his forehead suddenly opened wide. Pupil was no longer visible in the third eye, just a pure white eyeball. A torrent of Light-attribute energy surged out of the third eye. The Light-attribute energy, which should have been gentle with the essence of life, had now become frenzied, filled with endless destructive power, encompassing all the space within twenty meters in front of Herr. The great Light-attribute energy brought with it a sense of demolishing everything, enveloping the suddenly appearing Aske. Intense radiance, like a sun rising, was glaring enough to hurt the eyes.(To be continued. If you like this novel, feel free to vote for it on qidian.com. Your support is my greatest motivation.
