Chapter 698: Chapter 59 Survival Road_1

The fierce ice storm roared and raged like a beast from the Mythical Age, wreaking havoc across the icy plains. All magical beasts along its path, regardless of their strength, bowed in terror under the might of the wind god and offered their awe to this deity. However, Freya did not bow. The young girl was tousled in the wind but she still clung onto hope, striving to find a way to save herself.

In reality, escaping from an ice storm wasn’t an easy task. The winds moved at an incredible speed. Even a slight touch could cause irreversible damage, let alone being rolled in the air by the violent gusts. Maintaining balance was impossible, and even breathing became incredibly difficult. In such circumstances, seeking a way out was no less challenging than a mortal trying to ascend to divine status. However, fortunately, Freya was a mechanic- one of the professions best adept at using external tools to compensate for personal deficiencies on the Yarran Continent. In this environment, perhaps a person’s physical strength couldn’t stand against such a powerful calamity, but a mechanical contraption made of metal might offer a chance at survival, provided she could find an appropriate method.

From the moment of being blown away to adapting to the vertigo of the rolling wind and preparing to save herself, Freya spent a total of forty seconds. Forty seconds which, in normal life would be fleeting, but in this storm had carried her several kilometers away. As she soared, she brushed against the icy peaks on several occasions. Had her luck not been good enough, she would already have lost her life. However, she seemed unhurried. In mid-air, she curled herself into a ball. This shape not only reduced her contact with the ice shards in the wind but also maintained stability as much as possible, preventing her from tumbling erratically. After achieving this, she made no more noticeable movements, her hands laboriously moved over different parts of her body in the gale, seemingly assembling some form of mechanic.

Freya was a master of mechanics, inheriting most of the knowledge and experience of the mechanic Christo. She had also been stringently trained in mechanical assembly and manipulation. But even so, she found performing simple tasks in the violent wind was as challenging as eating or drinking could be. Only around five minutes later did she complete the preparations. By then, she was no longer contemplating her whereabouts, because wherever the storm took her was irrelevant. Her main task was to survive.

Freya finished her preparations, "I hope my idea is correct," she said to herself, covering her mouth and nose with her arm and taking a few forced deep breaths. "Teacher, I hope your work from your youth won’t fail me. Otherwise, your only student might end up dead on this icy tundra. I hope your spirit can bless me. I’m about to begin."

After saying a prayer for her teacher, Freya stretched her body without hesitation. With a "poof" sound, two wing-like constructions sprung out laterally from the metal mechanism attached to her back. The wings, made up of numerous slender rods of goblin metal, weaved together across gaps no wider than a centimeter, forming a skeletal structure. A layer of semi-transparent material, resembling leather, covered the framework. This was composed of the bladder of a giant deep-sea ThornBack fish, an element known for its incredible toughness and compression resistance. Even a demigod would require significant effort to damage it with a weapon.

The metallic wings were the creations of the old goblin Christo from over ninety years ago. At that time, he seemed to have a particular fascination with the sky, always wishing he could freely soar. Therefore, Christo spent three years making these wings. However, after an actual test, he regretfully found that at best they could only be used for gliding through the sky. Sometimes they were even less effective than the Feather Potion used by mages. Disappointed, the old goblin stored the wings in his warehouse, but still occasionally took them out, holding them in his hands and staring at them, sometimes for an entire day. After his passing, as his only student, Freya inherited what the old man had considered non-material wealth, including these wings.

The wings opened against the wind and, although unsteady, they didn’t snap under the gale, a testament to the quality and functionality of goblin’s metal. However, since the wings didn’t distribute pressure uniformly, the moment they spread open, Freya rocketed spirally in the direction of the wind, which seemed more dangerous than previously.

However, when Freya found herself spiraling forward, her heart finally eased. She knew she had crossed the most challenging step. As long as she could grasp the opportunity, there was a high chance of surviving the storm.

In the turbulence, Freya suddenly gritted her teeth. The Crystal Energy gun, which was usually fixed under her backpack, now appeared in her hand. Its muzzle pointed outwards, firing three rounds on full energy load while spinning at high speed.

Freya’s Crystal Energy gun had a strong recoil. When on full energy load, it had enough power to shoot an adult human several meters away. Using the recoil from the three continuous shots, Freya slightly adjusted the angle of the wings on her back and astonishingly regained her balance in the storm, flying diagonally against the wind.

After ascending several hundred meters, Freya finally felt the pressure around her sharply drop. The fragments of ice, rocks, and bones striking her Mana Shield vanished, stabilizing her shield. The fierce wind, carrying various materials, rushed past her feet. The high-speed airflow mixed with snow and ice, blurring her view downwards into a vast expanse of white.

"Haha, I’ve survived, finally, I’ve survived." Freya circled in the sky, occasionally brushing against the airflow beneath her to gain altitude. After an arduous survival struggle, ordinary moments seemed beautiful to her. Even the chill of the sunlight seemed endearing.

"Teacher, your relic is extremely reliable, and there wasn’t a single malfunction," Freya shouted gleefully at the sky, "Thank you. I hope you continue blessing me, allowing it to sustain me until the end of the storm." (To be continued. If you enjoyed this piece, feel free to check out more of my works at qidian.com.
