Chapter 694: Chapter 55 Assistance of Frost Spirit_2
However, the frost spirits were naturally curious and lively, each having their individual preferences. A small portion of them were particularly interested in human food. They were fond of the unique tastes, which were rarely experienced in the Eternal Frozen Wasteland. Therefore, they enjoyed eating with humans they accepted, and were willing to return these favors for the food. More than a hundred years ago, Pannis, who was then known as Kyle, had once bribed the Blue Hand frost spirit with food. Thus, the moment Blue Hand sorted out the alcohol, he immediately asked for food.
Four frost spirits were wrestling and scrambling, while the six members of the adventure team, were each holding their own plates, looking calmly as the spirited scuffle send shards of ice flying in every direction. The spirits’ playful tussles were actually quite boring; they didn’t feel pain and it was difficult for them to get hurt. Even if their outer layer of ice got shattered, they could instantly replenish ice elements from the environment to form a new layer. Hence, their fights were nothing more than time-wasting, yielding no practical results.
However, winning the fight now meant getting more food. Among the four frost spirits, the one who was perceived to be the most pitiful was Dull Angle, a square-shaped frost spirit who was only about thirty centimeters tall. Despite being incredibly strong and not losing out in battle from certain perspectives, his small size was a disadvantage, getting him quickly outmaneuvered by the other three. Nevertheless, his small size had a benefit too. The two pieces of meat he managed to snatch were a sizable chunk for him, enough to last him half a day. The other three were evenly matched, ultimately consuming roughly the same quantity. This outcome perplexed everyone, causing them to wonder what the actual motive behind this chaotic battle was.
"Ha, that was satisfying." Blue Hand, smacking his oily fingers, cheerfully said, "Alright, what were you saying earlier? What are you looking for?"
"We’re looking for a relic." Pannis put down his plate and wiped his mouth, "It should be underground, in Goblin-style ruins. You all should be familiar with the architectural style of the Goblins, right? Oh, good. It’s that type of white metal building, uh, its location should be within twenty to thirty kilometers from here. Have you seen it?"
The four frost spirits had stopped their squabbles by now and went back to their initial friendly manner. After exchanging glances, they unanimously shook their heads. Blue Hand answered on their behalf, "Never seen it. At least it’s definitely not on the surface. As for beneath the layers of ice, we wouldn’t generally go under there just for fun."
"If so, could you help us find it?" Catherine chipped in, "We can confirm that the relic is indeed located within the previously mentioned radius. We simply hope that you guys can locate the precise position. This matter is very important to us."
"Search for it below." Blue Hand made a troubled face as he reluctantly said, "Such a large area would be a hassle to search, and it might even be buried beneath the permafrost. Diving into the permafrost is quite a troublesome task."
"Three days’ worth of food." Pannis, not fooled by Blue Hand’s expression, was very clear of his true intentions. He held up three fingers, "After the task is done, I will give you food for three days. It will be a different meal every time, what do you think"
"It’s not about the food." Blue Hand still seemed troubled, "It’s really a hassle for us."
"Plus ten jars of the strongest liquor, a special product of the Dwarves." Pannis ignored Blue Hand’s refusal and continued to up the ante, "As long as the mission is successful, once we leave the Frozen Wastes, I will buy it for you right away and make it available to you within a year."
"It won’t be like last time again, would it?" Blue Hand’s eyes lit up as he asked in a serious tone, "I certainly do not want to wait that long again."
"As I told you, it will definitely be within a year," Pannis affirmed, "Since I promised you a specific time, I will not delay a single day. Just relax."
"Great, it’s settled then." Blue Hand slammed his hand on the ice, speaking loudly, "It’s agreed: three days’ worth of food and ten jars of the strongest liquor. I must get to taste this amazing alcohol that you have greatly praised in the past."
"Don’t forget the condition," Pannis reminded, "First you have to help us find that relic. If you don’t find it, you won’t get any of those things."
"Don’t you worry, as long as we know the approximate area, we will definitely find it," Blue Hand patted his chest in assurance, "Within three days, we will bring you the results. Just wait for our good news."
"How will you search?" Catherine queried, "Just now, you mentioned diving under the ice? Can you also dive into the permafrost?"
"Of course, all the ice is our friend," Blue Hand proudly stated, "We can freely move around within the ice layer. As long as we want, to our eyes, ice is not much different from how you view water - we can go anywhere we wish. Diving into the permafrost is indeed rather tricky because it’s not completely ice and diving into it requires some effort. However, the most it can do is slow us down; it definitely won’t stop us. And if we’re lucky and the location of the relic isn’t too deep, we might not even need to dive into the permafrost. Simply passing over it will let the ice tell us everything we need to know."
"That’s quite a handy ability." Catherine expressed her envy, "Can you dive into any type of ice layer?"
"Of course, as long as it’s ice," Blue Hand explained, "We can freely manipulate frost and fuse with it at any time. Using this fusion technique, we can pass through any layer of ice, no matter how thick it is. Well, look at Dull Angle, we’re all like him."
Sometime during their conversation, the thirty-centimeter-high Dull Angle had been making his way towards a corner, pressing against the wall. Under his touch, ripples spread across the ice wall and Dull Angle melted halfway into the ripples and soon vanished, as if he had passed through the wall. Quickly after, there was some noise from the sealed door. The icehouse’s sealed door slowly opened and the tiny Dull Angle walked in from outside, looking self-satisfied as he chittered a few lines and sat back down beside Blue Hand."
"As you can see, this is our clan’s ability," Blue Hand explained, "If the target is ice, we can pass through it at will, without any preparation or consumption. It’s our inherent ability."
"Then we’re counting on you, thank you very much." Catherine stood up, bowed deeply to the frost spirits and earnestly said, "I owe you a favor. Rest assured, we won’t forget our arrangement. We will deliver the rewards we promised you as soon as we can, and we won’t delay."
"That’s great then," the smile on Blue Hand’s face was so wide that his mouth could barely close, "Then it’s agreed. We’ll start exploring tomorrow morning. You all can wait here for us."
"We can’t just sit around and wait," Catherine refuted, "How about this? While you explore below the ice, we will continue with our initial plan and search above the ice. This way, we can speed up the process. Don’t worry, even if we find it first, we’ll still deliver your agreed rewards. However, there’s a slight issue: how will you notify us if you find it first?"
"That’s easy." Blue Hand nonchalantly said, "As long as you’re nearby and not too far, we’ll be able to find you easily, no difficulties at all." (to be continued.
