Chapter 688: Chapter 52: Giant on Ice_1
A dancing girl made of flame was dancing on Vivian’s palm. The Flame Dancer, seductively swaying, oddly enough bore Lina’s silhouette and hairstyle, which made the priestess girl angrily wave her fist at Vivian from afar. However, Vivian ignored it and was engrossed in controlling the flame in her hand, making the Flame Dancer perform complicated moves, almost indistinguishable from a real person. Pannis watched with interest and then, wanting to join the fun, sat down in front of Vivian, hollering at the dancer like a drunken man in a tavern, even taking off his scarf that was covering his face and let out a loud whistle. But in the next instant, he was inevitably knocked down by a piece of ice flying at him and squatted on one side, howling with pain.
"Serves him right." Catherine muttered with a pout, offering the most precise comment, but she still went over and sat by Pannis. She quietly gave a signal to the frost spirit and asked, "Can you see clearly? Are those ones over there reacting to this?"
"There is a reaction." Pannis murmured quietly, "They are slowly closing in. Pretty interesting, these fellas behave like critters, inching closer bit by bit. Ignore them for now, any slight disturbance will scare them off, and it would be difficult to lure them back later."
"Sounds like feeding cats." Catherine laughed, taken aback by his comment, "It can’t be that exaggerated."
"Not at all exaggerated, it’s exactly like feeding cats." Pannis wheels his eyes and whispers, "Shh, they are getting closer, do not mention anything related to them for now, wait till they start the conversation. As soon as they start talking, they’re less likely to flee."
"Okay, dance another one." As he was speaking, the dancing steps of the Flame Dancer progressively slowed down and eventually moved to a bow, thus ending her dance. With no sign of noticing the frost spirits spectating, Pannis clapped and loudly cheered as if he was not in the cold Perpetual Icefield but in the warm Red Lip Tavern in the City of Knowledge, swinging his fist and coat along with the other drunken crowds, cheering for the scantily-clad dancer on stage.
However, although his performance was splendid and almost real, something unexpected happened. Suddenly, a dull roar echoed across the empty icefield. If you listen carefully, it was a man yelling in common language but with peculiar intonation: "No wonder I just found the voice familiar, it’s you, you bastard, you made me wait so long for what you promised, this is absolutely outrageous, I can’t believe you dare to come here."
"Huh?" Pannis blinked puzzily and turned his head, only to see a decade meter tall iceberg with legs wobbling over. The iceberg’s heavy steps made rumbling noises and Pannis turned to the girls who were looking at him with peculiar eyes. He habitually wanted to scratch his head, he turned to the approaching iceberg and said loudly, "Who are you? Could you be Riftback? Or Half-mouth? Oh, I see, given your height, you must be Blue Hand."
"Humph, thats right, I am Blue Hand." Blue Hand stood in front of everyone, its sturdy legs suddenly bent and vanished from everyone’s sight, leaving behind was the talking iceberg from a distance: "I still remember your voice, blonde dwarf, can’t believe you’ve forgotten about me."
"I didn’t forget." Pannis shook his head: "Of course I remember you, but you guys all look similar, it’s hard to tell who’s who, you gotta give me some time to remember."
"We have huge differences, you guys are the ones who look all the same." Blue Hand spoke normally, but no one could figure out how a mouthless iceberg could talk and due to its size, the volume of its normal speech sounded like arguing: "When will you give me what you promised?"
"Uh?" Pannis looked at Blue Hand cluelessly, thinking hard but eventually asked confusedly: "Did I promise you something? I don’t think so, I can’t remember at all."
"Did you really forget?" Blue Hand yelled out, its giant body suddenly letting out a puff of frost mist, when the mist cleared away, the colossal iceberg was gone, leaving behind a giant humanoid figure standing where it was. It was a giant of at least five meters tall, snow-blue in color, initially it looked similar to humans from far, but when up close, it’s clear that the giant was made entirely of sharply featured ice and it was giving off cold vibes. The giant sat down with a thump, waved its arms like a child who didn’t receive its promised gift, and said in a loud voice, "You clearly promised, and then you forget, I won’t let you off, you promised to give it to me."
"So, what is it that I promised to give you?" Pannis was also in distress, the memories of more than a hundred years were fading away, even if some still remained in the mind they were blurry and unclear, hence he couldn’t recall what Blue Hand was talking about. Given that Blue Hand wasn’t being clear, he had to ask sheepishly, "I’m so sorry, it’s been too long, I genuinely couldn’t remember."
"Alcohol, yes! Back then both you and the black-haired dwarf explained so much about the varieties of alcoholic beverages in the human world, how they taste and all. " Blue Hand spoke discontentedly, "Back then I said I wanted to try some and you agreed. When you were leaving, I reminded you guys to bring some alcohol for me to try, and you guys left me hanging for so long. There, the black-haired dwarf is also here, vouch for me, he did make a promise, right?"
"Uhm, I think you might have confused me with someone else." Catherine, following Blue Hand’s pointing, touched her face and said, "I’m not the ’black-haired dwarf’ you’ve mentioned, I’ve never been here before. The man you’re referring to is probably someone else, not me."
"Really?" Blue Hand looked at Catherine in confusion, shaking his head firmly: "I don’t know, all of you humans look about the same, we can’t tell any differences."
"Hey." Pannis glared at Blue Hand with a frown: "I’ve said that before, don’t copy me. Besides, you just protested against this comment a moment ago, why are you repeating it now?"
"I don’t care, you all do look the same anyway, and don’t you try to change the subject." The five-meter tall giant whined like a child, pounding on the ground so hard it felt like an earthquake was going on. But Blue Hand didn’t seem to notice any of this, he just kept on whining: "You promised to bring me wine next time, but not only have you been avoiding me for years, you didn’t bring me any wine, and you even deny ever promising me, you liar, you big liar."
"Wait, wait, wait." Pannis, holding his aching head, enduring the loud whining, tried to talk louder: "I’m not denying it, I just said that it’s been so long I can’t remember clearly. But I never said that I didn’t promise you, thanks to your reminder, it seems I did say that."
"Did you admit it?" Blue Hand instantly quieted down, ceasing his ground-pounding. He lowered his head and his huge eyes stared at Pannis: "Then did you bring it? If you brought it, I won’t care about you delaying it for so long."
"Well, this is..." Pannis chuckled a few times, patting Blue Hand’s big head that was leaned in close, looking up at the sky uneasily, he said: "Look, the weather on the Perpetual Icefield is nice this year, isn’t it? The temperature is even lower than previous years, ha, ha, ha."
"So, you didn’t bring it after all." The giant immediately started whining again, the quick change in demeanor made the girls lowered their heads, trying not to gaze at him, in fear that they would burst into laughter. But Blue Hand didn’t care about the girls’ reaction, he cried out while slapping his huge thigh: "You’re a liar, no matter how you explain it, you’re still a liar."
Pannis, nearly losing it, held his face in his hands, although he still understood the frost spirit’s personality reasonably, he truly didn’t expect such a development when he first came here. This unforeseen development gave him, who plans for everything ahead of time, an unimaginable headache. He had never so regretted his decision to break his habit of always carrying a bottle of red wine in his bag a hundred years ago.
"So, Blue Hand," Pannis said with a stiff smile: "Let’s discuss something, after I return this time, I’ll purchase a big barrel and send it to you as quickly as possible. No, I’ll send ten barrels, how’s that?"
"Ten barrels?" Blue Hand covered his face with both hands, peeping out from between his fingers, he stopped wailing for a few seconds, as if he was weighing Pannis’s words, but eventually he burst out crying again: "I don’t believe you anyway, you’re definitely trying to trick me again, you’re a liar after all."
"Ha, ha, ha, ha." Catherine, sitting nearby, finally couldn’t hold back her laughter, covering her mouth as she laughed out loud. The other girls started to shake, they leaked snorts of mirth while trying to stifle their giggles. Only Ava remained expressionless, but someone who really knew her could tell that a faint smile was concealed behind her indifferent gaze.
"Ha, ha, ha, hey there, Blue Hand," Catherine took her backpack off and started rummaging through it as she spoke: "Don’t pay attention to that blond dwarf, he’s just messing with you, he did bring the wine for you."
"For real?" Blue Hand stopped wailing once again, looking at Catherine then at Pannis, he inquired uncertainly: "He really brought it for me? He’s not fooling me again, is he?"
"Um, perhaps, ha, ha, ha, ha." Pannis chuckled uncertainly, not really engaging the topic.
"See." Catherine had finally fumbled in her backpack for a bit before pulling out a dark crystal bottle around the size of an arm. She lifted and displayed it to Blue Hand with a smile: "Here’s the wine we brought for you, we didn’t lie to you, did we?" (To be continued. If you like this novel, please vote for it on qidian.com.
