Chapter 671: Chapter 35 Vivian’s Fall_1

"Be careful." Without a second thought, Catherine activated her support charge, immediately appearing beside Vivian, catching her as she swooned, "What’s up, are you unwell again?"

"It’s no big deal, sis, I just tripped over." Vivian playfully patted Catherine’s arm with a reassuring smile, "Really, I’m not unwell. Just a stumble, no need to worry."

"Really? Don’t overdo it." Catherine gave her a doubtful look, slowly letting go of her grasping hand. Vivian, standing up, opened her arms wide with ease, "See, I’m perfectly alright. No problem at all."

"Alright." Catherine watched Vivian apprehensively before letting out a sigh of relief and chided her mockingly, "Be careful, you almost scared me to death."

"Haha, you’re just too timid, sis." Vivian walked forward a few steps, sticking her tongue out and suddenly tripped over nothing again. Neither Catherine nor Pannis who had been watching her missed it this time. There was nothing in her path to trip her, her steps just lost rhythm and she tripped herself.

"That’s weird." While being held up by Catherine again, she frowned, puzzled, "I’ve been controlling it fine all these years, why am I tripping now? Sis, let me go, let me try again. I need to figure out the issue."

Catherine, worried, finally let go as per Vivian’s demand. She did not relax though and kept close. Vivian continued to walk around the spot, her movements perfectly normal as always. But she could not figure out the issue. After wandering for a solid two minutes, when Bast had already flown off the cave entrance, she finally gave up in frustration, rubbing her top hat invitingly, "Seems like I won’t be figuring out the issue just now, let’s not waste time and get on with it."

"Be careful." She hadn’t even completed her first step when, with a frightening exclamation from Pannis, she stumbled into Catherine’s arms.

"I understand now." Vivian gave a bitter smile, "As I thought, it is my body causing the issue. What a mess."

"What exactly is going on?" Catherine questioned, continuing to carry Vivian, "Is it that you suddenly become uncoordinated? You were walking a bit weird beforehand."

"Yeah." Vivian sighed, "Seems like there is an issue with the speed of mana circulation in my mana channels, causing my Puppet Control Spell to lose effect. I should be able to adjust back to normal in a few hours. That being said, it is strange that the automatic mana circulation in the mana channels has issues."

"Have you forgotten?" Pannis’s face became very serious, he said solemnly, "During our visit to the Goblin Research Center, the manager of the reference center gave an introduction to your illness. It will slowly erode..."

"Plant...nerves?" Seeing Pannis struggle at recalling the name, Catherine tried to fill in uncertainly, "I think that’s what it was called. We even asked her about the name."

"Yes, plant nerves," Pannis nodded, continuing, "Your Searle Syndrome will slowly erode your plant nerves. The automatic circulation of mana in the mana channels is controlled by plant nerves. Your current issue with the speed of circulation is likely a sign of further erosion into the plant nerves. We can’t wait any longer."

"Why are you taking so long to come in?" Mina’s voice echoed out from the cave, getting closer. A few seconds later, a woman cloaked in a grey mantle emerged from the darkness, asked in surprise, "Who dares disturb my sleep? Oh, it’s you, Cat..."

"Long time no see, Mina." Pannis interrupted Mina abruptly, "I’m Pannis, remember? We came to you for a favor this time. However, one of our companions seems to have an issue. We can talk in detail inside, let’s not stand at the entrance."

Standing behind Pannis, Catherine, who was carrying Vivian, saw Pannis’s clumsy performance. She tilted her head in annoyance and mouthed "so stupid" without making a sound. Mina under the cloak looked at Pannis in front of her strangely. After pondering for a moment, she understood his intention and spoke doubtfully, "Alright, Pannis, what’s with you now? I recall that you were never like this in the past. Never mind though, change can be good; at least it’s not more dangerous than before. You said your companion has a problem, is it the girl being carried at the back? Oh, she’s sick, that’s troublesome. But I believe the goblins have found a solution, why not ask them for medical help? Ah yes, I forgot, the goblins are extinct. My apologies, I just got woken from my sleep by Bast, I’m not too clear-headed."

"No problem, we’ve disturbed you." Pannis apologized, "That’s one of the reasons why we’re here."

"Huh? I can’t heal, especially not this disease." Mina turned back and said, "Anyway, let’s go inside. Even though there’s no proper guest area, there’s still more space than here at least. Follow me, by the way, Cat... I mean Pannis, aren’t you going to introduce us?"

"These people are my friends...team members." Pannis hesitated slightly before smoothly switching his words. He continued, "Catherine, the Sage Lina of Denia, the Gunner Freya, the Alchemist Vivian on Catherine’s back, and finally, this is Ava."

"Are you Ava?" Mina exclaimed in surprise. "I heard about you just a few years after I was born, a newborn Triclops. Pannis, you’re really lucky to have this girl in your team."

"It is indeed good luck." Pannis laughed at himself. "Let’s ignore that for now. Many things have happened over these years, including our journey to find you. I think you need to know."

"Let’s walk and talk." Mina didn’t show much courtesy to the girls and just motioned them to move. If another race were to invoke the same gesture, it might have been considered rude, but it was different coming from a Drake. The ancient beings, each of whom could count any other conscious life form in the Yarran World as their juniors based on their age alone had no one qualified to blame them. Moreover, Drakes, by their nature, didn’t care much for ceremonies hence nobody took offense to Mina’s seeming lack of manners. Mina asked as she walked, "You said ’I’ have to understand this?"

"Yes," Pannis confirmed. "It’s serious."

"How much time has passed?" Rather than inquiring into details, Mina asked a seemingly odd question about time.

"The year is 3692, soon to be 3693." Although Mina’s question was somewhat baffling, Pannis swiftly deduced her thought process. He deftly avoided a straight answer of over a hundred years, and replied vaguely, "Not too long."

"Just a short while?" For the Drakes, a hundred years felt like a fleeting moment. Mina expressed her frustration. "How did serious problems arise in such a short period? Did the deities find a way to come back and blow up the world again?"

"Uh, not that serious," Pannis responded. "We probably didn’t thoroughly resolve our past issues."

"Relating to that incident?" Mina knew that Pannis was tactically avoiding any conversation related to the Death’s Gate. Although she noticed the hidden mockery in the girls’ eyes, she decided to play along and prodded, "Could it be the three escaped priests?"

"We’ll have to start from the beginning for that." Pannis briefly recounted their adventures over the past year to Mina. By the time he finished, they had reached Mina’s den. Drakes enjoyed spacious caves, hence Mina’s den was enormous, allowing a hundred-meter-long Drake to roll around at ease. There was a stone platform in the furthest part of the den, where Mina, in her dragon form, would often lie down to sleep. However, this time she did not return to her platform, but instead found a few rocks to serve as chairs and sat with the six members of the adventure team. Pannis narrated till the part where they encountered undead modified magical beasts in the snowfield and concluded, "That’s pretty much it. I’m worried the ritual they are conducting is a way to provide power to that deity and the ceremony is to reopen that gate. Their research on the undead transformation of the magical beasts..."

"Is to create chaos in the rear when required and also to prevent the situation from happening again?" Mina mused. "Correct." Pannis nodded. "That’s what I believe."

Mina got up, pacing around the spot several times before suddenly stopping to ask, "How certain are you about this matter?"

"Not at all," Pannis spread his hands and gave a bitter smile. "Everything is just conjecture, and maybe, and probable, and I guess. There’s no certainty at all. Maybe they’re just a bunch of idiots amusing themselves, but do you think anyone would dare to bet the future of the Yarran World on this possibility?"

"So, what do you want me to do?" Mina asked the crucial question. "Gather a large number of clan members, then storm into the Forest of Death and destroy them?"

"Huh, I wouldn’t dare to think that," when the topic came up, Pannis coldly huffed. "I understand, for you Guardians, even if the probability of success was 100%, it isn’t grave enough to warrant mobilization on a large scale. Using one or two adult clan members is a limit, let alone when there’s no certainty."

"I’m sorry," Mina lowered her hood even more. "I deeply apologize." (To be continued. If you like this work, welcome to support us at qidian.com with your recommendation, monthly votes. Your support is our greatest motivation. Readers using mobile devices please go to m.qidian.com to read.)
