Chapter 670: Chapter 34: Dragon Mountain Range_1

The silhouette of the Dragon’s wings casted a shadow over the Magical Beast Forest. Bast streaked across the sky with his wings wide open, sliding over the towering treetops. The gust from his massive body made the thick tree trunks, enough to take several people to hug, sway. The accumulated snow and icicles on the treetops continuously dropped, startling countless beasts and magical creatures hiding beneath the trees.

"Roar~~~" Bast let out a dragon roar and some weak little beasts and birds fell straight from the branches. They struggled helplessly on the ground, unable to stand up again. If it were any other day, animals that could not climb would have swarmed from the trees, but under the oppressive aura of the Drakes, all the beasts lay down, trembling, and not one dared to stand up to hunt.

Without the sun in the night sky, only three cold bright moons existed like three cold and beautiful goddesses dancing silently in the night. They quietly watched over everything in the world. The cold moonlight scattered on the ground, reflecting off the snow, bringing a faint light to the forest. From the Dragon’s back, looking down into the forest, dark green needle-leaf plants stood upright like spears piercing the sky. Grey squirrels in fluffy coats took advantage of the darkness to sneak out of their nests, holding onto the fruits on the trees. Due to the dragon’s presence, they slid straight down from the branches but refused to let go of the food in their hands. They hung from the treetops, swinging in the wind.

The trees in the forest were not densely packed. One could see the landscape on the ground through the canopies. Many tracks of wild beasts were distributed in different positions on the smooth snow. From the number of tracks, even in harsh winter, the Magical Beast Forest would never be lonely. Some magical beasts curled up in the snow under the trees, staring fearfully at the sky, hoping that the ruler of the sky would not turn its attention to them, and leave this territory as soon as possible.

Further away, some giant nocturnal flying beasts were hurriedly descending from the sky. The dragon’s arrival was too sudden for these night hunters, who failed to return to their nests in time, and only had the choice to land in panic wherever possible without considering their safety. Farthest at the horizon was the continuous stretch of Dragon Mountain Range, into the folds of darkness under the night sky, the home of the Dragons.

"We’re almost home," Bast called out excitedly, spotting the Dragon Mountain Range in the distance, like a child who had played to his heart’s content and was eager to return home. "Hold on tight, guys; I’m going to speed up. Haha, I can finally go home and sleep."

"Everyone, sit down." Hearing Bast’s call to accelerate, Pannis’s face changed. He waved to the girls, saying, "Hurry up. This guy is insane...Oh no, he’s already insane. Hold on tight and don’t move."

Pannis’s warning came just in time. The moment everyone sat down, they felt a violent shake beneath them. A tremendous force made everyone lean back to counteract the impact. With a roar, Bast raised his flying altitude by over a hundred meters and his speed multiplied many times, leaving a streak of afterimages behind as he flew rapidly in the sky. The girls could only perceive a torrent of deafening boom in their ears. The scenery below was receding rapidly, and it was hard to gauge how fast the speed had increased.

As for the forest bellow, it was an even more miserable scene. Although Bast had raised his flight altitude, the speed was still impacting the environment below. High-speed flight produced not only an ear-shattering roar but also terrifying waves of air. Under these destructive waves, many younger trees that had not lived for many years were ruthlessly broken, and the snow on their tops tumbled to the side. Several unlucky birds, stationed at the tops of the trees, were directly hit head-on by the wave, blood gushing from their beaks and noses, bones broken. They lost their lives before they could even emit a sound.

"Wow, that’s too fast!" Almost rolling off the Dragon’s back, Freya couldn’t help but scream. But she found that even she herself couldn’t hear her voice amidst the deafening roar. What filled her ears was only the loud noise of the Dragon’s breath breaking through the air. The never-ending loud noise made one feel restless and annoyed.

"Oh, the noise is unbearable," Vivian finally couldn’t stand it. She waved her fingers in the air, and a flashing array appeared out of nowhere, encircling the six of them. The emergence of the array weakened the piercing roar but it was still unable to completely isolate it, showing how loud the noise of breaking the air was.

Fortunately, they were not far from the Dragon Mountain Range already, and the acceleration had shortened the remaining journey. In less than fifteen minutes, the continuous stretch of the Dragon Mountain Range appeared in front of everyone. The Dragon Mountain Range was not too high; its highest peak was just over three thousand meters. However, according to the records, the length of the mountain range was nearly a thousand kilometers, which was considered long in Yarran World.

"That’s my house," Bast laughed proudly. "Look how beautiful the cave is; the spacious area in front of the cave can be used for walks after meals. Exiting the cave leads to a forest where we can munch on some conifers for digestion when full from meals. This is honestly the best nesting place."

"Uhm, well, we can’t really relate to that," Pannis said, rubbing his forehead. "But haven’t you forgotten something? I remember we didn’t come here to visit your house – didn’t I tell you we were here to see Aunt Mina?"

"Huh?" Bast made an abrupt stop in mid-air, nearly flinging off his riders. He fluttered his wings to stay afloat and tilted his huge head, saying, a bit perplexed: "Well, it seems... well, it seems you did say that. Hahaha, there must have been some unforeseen circumstance. Yes, that must be it. Hahaha."

"Hurry up and turn around, you idiot." Pannis stomped forcefully on Bast’s back, torn between laughter and tears. "Her house shouldn’t be far from yours, right? You took me to fly there when I came alone last time."

"Oh, right, I forgot that she moved house a thousand years ago." Bast suddenly realized, tilted his body to a dangerous angle with his wings spreading out, and flew off in a different direction.

"Idiot Bast, you still have people on your back." Six people lying on the dragon’s back just barely managed not to slide down its smooth scales. Pannis yelled with all his strength, "Turn around again, you idiot. We’re about to fall off."

"Ah, I forgot again." Bast turned his body and chuckled awkwardly to change the subject, "It shouldn’t take more than ten minutes to get to Aunt Mina’s house from here, so there’s no need to rush. Everyone, bear with me a little longer, we’ll be there soon."

"This is unbearable." Pannis sighed weakly and said to the girls, "This guy is always reckless, I don’t know how many times he’s been scolded by his father, but he just never changes. I guess he’s considered a black sheep among the Drakes."

"Actually, he’s quite cute." Catherine shook her head with a laugh, "Well, in any case, thanks to his help, we’re almost there. I wonder if after we meet your friend, we’ll be able to find any clues about the research center fragment."

"That shouldn’t be a problem." Pannis rubbed his chin, "After all, the person giving us this information is Denia. As long as she’s not intentionally misleading us, there won’t be any mistakes. Don’t worry, everything will work out."

"I hope things will really work out." Catherine sighed, and glanced sympathetically at Vivian’s back. She turned around without saying a word, staring at the mountain ranges in the distance.

Compared to the Magical Beast Forest, the vegetation on the Dragon Mountain Range is sparser, with more coniferous shrubs. Like the forest below, the vast mountain range is fully covered with snow, presenting a three-dimensional white landscape with the exception of a few cliffs. The mountain range is very quiet, with no dragons in sight, and the only sound in the silence is the echo of Bast’s wingbeats through the mountains.

"There, see? I told you I remember it clearly, that’s Aunt Mina’s house." Bast pointed cheerfully straight ahead, "You guys must put in a good word for me with Aunt Mina, I’m depending on you."

What Bast was pointing to was a vertical cliff, with a giant cave entrance massive enough to allow a fully stretched dragon to fly directly into it. Bast flew to the cave entrance, leaned his head in, and shouted, "Aunt Mina, I brought your friends to see you, haha, you should reward me."

Bast’s loud voice echoed back and forth inside the cave, becoming thunderous. Even though the cave was extremely solid, the ceiling was still shaken by the noise, causing small rocks to fall down. Bast apparently didn’t notice anything wrong, he took a deep breath intending to shout again, but a hot dragon breath gushed out from inside the cave. He quickly retracted his head to avoid it, narrowly escaping being singed by the dragon breath.

"You little rascal, Bast." A familiar voice from within the cave scolded Pannis, "Put our guests down and get out. If you dare shake my house down again, I will kill you."

"Uh oh, Aunt Mina is mad." Bast stuck out his tongue like a child and flew into the cave, saying with his wings drooping at the entrance, "I better leave now, if I stay here, I’m afraid Aunt Mina can’t help but hit me. You guys better not forget."

"We know, don’t worry." Catherine slid down Bast’s wing onto the cave floor, patting Bast’s head, "You better get back to work, be careful not to be caught sleeping on the job again."

The girls each slid down the wing in succession. When it was Vivian’s turn, Lina and Catherine were already there on either side to support her. The young mage gave her two closest teammates a warm smile, stood up with their assistance, and started walking towards the interior of the cave. However, as she took her third step, under the watchful eyes of everyone, she suddenly, without warning, collapsed forward. (To be continued.
