Chapter 661: Chapter 25 Chester’s Ending_1

"Howl~~~~" Under the bright round moon, the long howl of a wolf echoes through the night sky of the snowfield, a vast and freezing field wrapped in darkness. Who knows how many creatures tonight will lose their lives to the cold, starvation, or the teeth of predators. While the environment is shrouded in the trouble of cold and snow, the small house on the snowfield is immersed in warmth. A crystal energy furnace is burning vigorously in the middle of the ice house, with orange flames licking at the metal grid above it. Strips of meat are evenly spread over the grid, roasted by the flames, exuding a strong aroma. Large droplets of golden fat fall through the grid, hissing at the temperature of the crystal energy furnace.

In the darkness outside the ice house, green eyes constantly light up, attracted by the scent of food. Various carnivorous beasts pass here, greedily and hungrily gazing at the sturdy ice house. However, the beasts’ keen instincts keep them away after a brief look, retreating intelligently into the darkness and distancing themselves. Even facing madness-inducing hunger, they dare not approach the ice house. After all, the creatures in the ice house exert immense pressure on them. The presence of a few Legendary Rank ladies already brings great pressure to the magical beasts in the snowfield. Not to mention there’s a terrifying creature tinged with a demi-god aura nearby, along with the monster permeating with a dragon’s aura. Even the Legendary Rank beasts would tread carefully around such a combination, let alone the Silver Rank beasts on the snowfield, who daren’t even come close. They whimper regretfully as they turn to escape.

Inside the ice house, everyone is sitting around the crystal-energy furnace. The pits they dug in advance are just right for them to sit at the edge, warming their tired legs with the heat from the furnace, which helps to disperse the fatigue and cold rapidly.

"The pressure of tonight’s dinner is huge." The girls have taken off their thick coats and are gathered around in their everyday clothes. Lina, however, seems somewhat moody today. She just clings to her book, staring blankly at the heated metal grid and the tempting roast meat, while speaking weakly, "None of you actually saw Betty’s condition at the time, oh, except Ava, Ava saw it. The rest of you didn’t see. The metal grid that was wrapped around her body, the chunks of meat scattered on the ground, ugh, no, I can’t think about it anymore. I need to go out for a bit of fresh air, ugh.

’Clang’, Catherine drops her knife and fork onto her plate. In front of her, a half-cut roasted meat is still steaming hot on her plate, while the other half has already disappeared into her mouth. She wasn’t quite sure whether to swallow it or spit it out. She was another one who saw Betty’s condition, although it was much less shocking as she saw it after the treatment had begun. But the impact was still significant, especially when Lina linked the roast meat and the metal grid to that scene, maximizing the shock. So much so that she too had to throw her plate aside, follow Lina to cool down outside.

"It seems that what they saw was truly terrifying." Freya sighed, "The eldest sister only briefly explained what had happened. Without seeing it firsthand, it’s hard to imagine. But considering the hatred Betty carried afterwards, it must have caused her great pain. It could even make her hate someone she once loved."

"The deeper the love, the deeper the hate will be after betrayal." Pannis’s face remains expressionless, she calmly brushes sauce on the roast meat in front of her and says, "Such hatred is hard to erase, especially for women, they will never forgive a person who has betrayed them."

"You’re underestimating women." With the cold wind to sober them up, the two girls suppressed their nausea and returned to the ice house. As soon as they entered, they heard Pannis’s comment. Catherine, resuming her seat, remarked, "Women are not as vengeful as you imagine. Moreover, they can clearly know whether the other person really chose to betray them in their hearts. There are five women here, if you speak carelessly, hehe, you better watch out."

To Catherine’s words, Pannis just shrugged, and pointed to Catherine’s plate, "Are you still going to eat?"

"Hey, you." Catherine raised her eyebrows, squinting at Pannis accusingly, "You’re doing this on purpose, aren’t you? You know we don’t have any appetite now, yet you ask such a question."

"Yeah, I don’t plan on eating anymore, just roasting a few slices of bread later will do." Lina casually placed her book on the side, her face still maintaining her indifferent expression since entering Icebound Town, "Thinking about the things in the town just irritates me."

"I still can’t understand how Chester could do such inhumane things to a girl who loved him." Ava was enjoying her meal. She had spent over ten thousand years as a mechanical being in the research center, never enjoying the pleasure of food. Since joining the adventure team, Pannis’s cooking has been irresistible to Ava. Every meal, she felt her appetite was great. Today was no exception. She had ditched the dinner knife and had two enticing pieces of meat on a dinner fork, eating and talking, "You’ve been explaining about greed, original sin, and other stuff, saying that this is another side of human nature. But I really can’t analyze these clearly. But for some reason, when we left the small town, I felt a very refreshing and happy feeling in my heart, and this unknown emotion is my first time feeling it."

"This feeling is too understandable, I have it too." Lina chuckled coldly, saying, "Breaking Chester’s arms and handing him over to Betty and her father, Old Dak, I can think of how it will end - it’s impossible not to be happy. Even the priest of the compassionate god, wouldn’t forgive such a beast’s sins. I sincerely hope Betty can return all the pain she suffered to that beast."

"But I’ve been thinking all along." Catherine furrowed her brow, "Is it really okay to hand Chester over to Betty and her family? Especially since Betty asked you for that magic gear for clotting, and those leftover mental drugs you found in the secret room that can stimulate vitality to prevent the user from dying or fainting from extreme shock, she also took those, right?"

"Yes, I gave them all to her. Along the way, Vivian enhanced the magic equipment a little to make it more effective." Lina sneered, "What’s wrong, sister? You’re not going to show mercy to the beast now, are you? For the things he’s done, I think it wouldn’t be excessive even if he died ten thousand times."

"Of course I wouldn’t show mercy to him. Even the mercy of a knight is not intended for such inhuman creatures," Catherine shook her head, "I’m worried about Betty. She’s already been strongly stimulated, not in a very good mental state. If she’s tortured Chester every day, I’m afraid she’ll get deeper and deeper into her hatred and eventually go insane. She’s already pitiful enough, subjected to innocent torment, if she’s also to spend the rest of her life in madness..."

"Don’t worry about that, sister," Lina’s mouth twitched, her smile was as cold as Tifa’s, whom she had once talked about with Betty, "I had Vivian tweak the drug a little, its effect can only last three days. I told her before leaving that the drug may stop working at any time, so she should be prepared. Three days is just enough for her to vent her inner resentment, punish the beast adequately, and not impact her mental state too much. Don’t worry, all this was taught to me by Tifa, there certainly won’t be a mistake. Tifa used to be an eccentric god of the forest and life deity system, the dark archbishop who controlled the rot and wilt of plants... nevermind, let’s not talk about this, you guys probably won’t have a chance to see her in the future, she always says she’s tired and doesn’t want to appear in public."

"You’re really convenient." Hearing Lina’s explanation, Catherine let go her worries, admiringly saying, "No matter what type of problem you encounter, there will always be friends coming to explain, but I find it strange, a lot of knowledge, I suspect even the author who created those characters wouldn’t know, why do your friends know so clearly?"

"They say they exist, yet they do not." Lina chuckled coldly, suddenly shouting, "Pannis, bake me some bread, I’m hungry, I want thick butter and cheese, such a long night, must eat well to sleep well."

"Ooooh~~~~~" Another few sorrowful wolf howls resounded from the distant snowfield, Pannis looked out the window, placed a few pieces of bread on the fire, roasting while talking, "Oh, right, Mackervillain, you guys have lived nearby for generations, have you ever encountered a day or night that lasted a whole day?"

"An entire day?" Mackervillain, who was also in the ice house but maintaining his preference for silence, barely spoke. After he was full he would lean against a wall to nap, only opening his eyes and slowly answering when Pannis asked, "Never seen or heard of it, why?"

"Nothing much, Lina just mentioned a long night earlier and I suddenly remembered, a buddy with an abnormal brain once told us there should be such a situation here," Pannis shrugged, "We really believed it, we even came all the way here like idiots to ask, and even stayed in a nearby village during the coldest period, of course we didn’t get anything. But that guy often talks nonsense, everyone is used to it, we didn’t have much hope in the first place, so naturally there won’t be any disappointment."

"Indeed, I haven’t heard of it," Mackervillain thought for a moment, shaking his head, "If someone had mentioned it, I surely would have remembered."

"Ooh~~~," the sound of the wolf howl sounded again, Pannis and Mackervillain both furrowed their brows looking out the window, with Pannis questioning, "This wolf’s howl is odd, seems like a call to arms, strange, is there something happening over there?"
