Chapter 634: Gate of Past Days - Danacus’ fanatics (two Chapters combined, so there’s only this one update today) _2
"Is that a low probability?" Kyle crossed his arms and asked with a tilted head.
"Indeed, it is quite low," Mina responded, "So I hope this assault ends here, and you all return directly to Death’s Gate, from where you can return to our world, and then collectively seal the gate closed."
"And what about you?" Kyle asked with a faint smile, "Would we just run away and leave you to face the weakened Divine Soul alone? I recall we have already vetoed this plan. We are not so heartless as to watch a lady sacrifice her life for our world while doing nothing ourselves. So, Lady Mina, let’s stop discussing departure. I don’t think anyone among us would back out due to fear of death."
"But the circumstances are different now," the battle dragon Mina worriedly said, "The present danger..."
"No need to say more, Lady Mina, the situation is not different at all," Kyle interrupted Mina’s persuasion calmly, "From the very beginning when we gathered, I did not assume an encounter with the God Soul Fragment as the premise of our plan. For such risky actions, we need to be prepared for the worst so we can handle any possible situation. I would like to ask you, do you think we demi-gods of the Fourth Epoch are weaker compared to the strongest deities of their era?"
"I’m not on par with Loki, and you are not on par with a few leaders among the strongest. Still, the discrepancy is not substantial," Mina pondered and replied directly without any reservations, "Your powers should rank in the top fifty amongst the strongest."
"Exactly," Kyle nodded, "The seventeen strongest individuals united could defeat intact Danacus and his fanatics head-on, so now we thirteen, do you think we wouldn’t stand a chance against a remnant Divine Soul that doesn’t even have its Divine Kingdom?"
"I didn’t say that," Mina said with a bitter smile, "After that battle, only six of the strongest seventeen survived, and one of them was seriously injured with no chance of ever recovering his former strength."
"Heh, that was their own choice," Kyle chuckled, "Just like now, this is our choice. Besides, do you think I would lead everyone to their deaths unprepared? Even though we all defy death, if I would nonchalantly send everyone to die, how could I claim to be a perfect person?"
"You have made other preparations?" Mina was surprised, finding it hard to believe. Kyle had gathered a substantial force after their conversations, which she had mentally prepared for. However, she did not expect that after assembling the most formidable force on the Yarran Continent, Kyle would make other preparations. It seemed like he had anticipated these challenges, as if nothing could trip him up. Was there really such a perfect person in this world? Mina was unsure for a moment.
"Of course, I have made other preparations. When venturing, I never keep all the fresh water in one backpack," Kyle said with a reassuring smile on his face, bowing towards Flare, "Your majesty, please."
In response, Flare beamed a smile radiant enough to make flowers bloom. She carefully took out a thin box less than a meter long from her backpack. The surface of the box was engraved with numerous arrays, making it immensely precious.
"A Hundred Layer Box?" Mina exclaimed in surprise, "Could it be... some sort of Divine Artifact?"
Flare smiled and nodded. She delicately opened the lid of the Hundred Layer Box. The space inside the box was very narrow, with only a seemingly ordinary feather arrow lying quietly inside.
"So, the Arrow of the Hunting Goddess has been kept by the elves this whole time," Mina took a deep breath and said with a bitter smile, "After the end of the Third Epoch, our Guardian Tribe had been speculating whether this artifact was still in the mortal realm. It makes sense, it should’ve occurred to us much earlier. The three feather arrows crafted by the Hunting Goddess herself were hoped to be preserved in the hands of her favorite elves."
The Arrow of the Hunting Goddess, a divine artifact personally crafted by the goddess who oversees gathering and hunting, was a one-time-use weapon but extremely powerful. Once the feathered arrow has been shot, it would inevitably hit the target, ignoring any defense, whether armor or shield, without causing any disturbance to the Arrow of the Hunting Goddess. The Hunting Goddess had exhausted her resources to make only five such arrows. Two of them were used in the War of Gods at the end of the Third Epoch achieving remarkable results. During the crucial battles, the arrows killed the two most important demi-gods of the Beastman Tribe, significantly altering the balance between the elves and the Beastman. But after the War of Gods ended and the deities no longer interfered in the mortal realm, the remaining three arrows were never seen again. Most people believed that the Hunting Goddess had taken the three arrows back to her Divine Kingdom, never to appear in the mortal world again. It was unexpected to see one of those arrows here today.
"I solemnly swear," Kyle said to Flare seriously," I will never reveal anything about this arrow to anyone. I will always guard the secret of this arrow."
