Chapter 624: Chapter 90 The Method of Deceiving the Barrier_1
"Squeak", an acute braking sound echoed as the research center’s Crystal Energy car stopped at the initial square. Following the Crystal Energy car, there was a similar car with a cargo box on its back, much like those seen on the square before, usable as mobile stores. The five members of the adventure team had just disembarked from their car when the cargo box of the second car opened from the rear. Four small but stable puppets slid out of it. Their long and robust arms reached into the box, lifting two devices.
The equipment lifted out included two items. One was Ava’s life support chamber. Although Ava’s physical body was smaller than Vivian’s, the chamber was designed for a goblin, barely accommodating a being with a height of 160 or 170 centimeters. However, when you add up all the interior mechanical equipment, the length comes close to 200 or 250 centimeters, making it appear quite hefty. It required all four puppets to move it securely down from the car. The other device was much smaller, a one cubic meter metal box. The box was tightly sealed, and nobody could speculate what was inside. In reality, there was nothing inside; it was a backup control unit created by the goblins. Ava had already transferred her consciousness into this backup unit, leaving the research center’s control system that she had inhabited for ten thousand years. She temporarily relinquished the control of the system to the primary control unit, no longer acting as an artificial soul. However, this process is reversible. Should Ava wish to do so, she can connect to the main control center and transfer her soul back into the control system once she returns. This would restore her former state and regain absolute control over the research center.
"Can this really work?" Lina had come round. Despite her many experiences in lending her body to other wills, she still appeared weak. The will of a deity is formidable. Even a slight sacred mind could be unbearable for a mortal body, presenting a significant burden. Lina, a Legendary Rank professional, was still profoundly affected. If it were an ordinary person, the outcome won’t be hard to imagine. However, despite her weakness, her curiosity remained unchanged. She looked interested, circling around the metallic puppets moving the equipment, and asked, "Your method won’t affect this little one, will it, Pannis?"
"The one you’re referring to as ’little one’ is already over ten thousand years old. Adding a hundred of you together, your combined lifetimes may not even be comparable to the tail end of hers." Pannis pouted, then replied, "There won’t be any issues, this is the best method. If this can’t bring Ava into the Yarran World, no second method will."
"But, I don’t quite understand." Catherine, holding the life support chamber, stopped at the circular entrance she was at upon arrival, which was separated by a transparent partition. "Why can’t Ava return to her physical body to return to the Yarran World? According to my understanding, Lord Yarra’s Divine Barrier shouldn’t have this kind of loophole."
"This can’t actually be considered a loophole." Pannis explained, "Let’s use this analogy, Catherine. If you found an object you wanted to take back to the Yarran Continent, would you have to worry that the Divine Barrier would prevent it because it’s a Divine Artifact?"
A Divine Artifact is simply an item frequently used or specifically created by deities. Due to the long-term exposure to deities, these artifacts unavoidably become imbued with divine power, leading to their transformation into Divine Artifacts. In the Yarran World, Divine Artifacts are scarce, with only six or seven existing across the entire continent. But with Catherine’s knowledge as part of the adventure team, she has come into close contact with several, and is thus not unfamiliar with them. Therefore, in response to Pannis’s question, she naturally replied, "Of course not. Divine Artifacts are just items, they won’t be affected by a Divine Barrier. It’s common knowledge; most people are aware of this."
"Then what’s worrying you?" Pannis asked, "You can simply think of her as a Divine Artifact."
"How can they be the same?" Lina exclaimed in astonishment, "Ava’s body is flesh and blood, she breathes and her heart beats. How can we regard her as an item? No matter how you look at it, she is a living being."
"In reality, there’s no difference." Pannis shook his head, "Even with breathing and heartbeat, she’s nothing more than a Divine Artifact without life but with divinity, hence, she won’t be hindered by the Divine Barrier."
"I think I understand now." Catherine had a sudden realization, "You’re saying, only when Ava’s will returns to her physical body, is she considered a complete living entity. If her will and body are separated, the Divine Barrier would allow them through as two ordinary items, right?"
"That’s right." Pannis nodded, "Think about it, when Ava’s body was created, the deities had no sense of it. When her artificial soul was created, the deities again had no sense of it. It was only after the Deity Sigein used the secret arts of the Deities to attach Ava’s soul to this artificial body did the deities feel something was amiss. They realized that the goblins had created a divine entity, which explains the current situation. Rest assured, there won’t be a mistake."
"According to existing data, feasibility exceeds 85%." Although Ava’s soul was ensconced in the control unit within the metal box, since the control unit didn’t have a voice device, she still used the prior small device to make her voice heard. That small device was still perched on Pannis’s shoulder. Somehow, even since meeting, Ava had always avoided the topic and stirred up trouble with Pannis, yet she particularly liked to perch on Pannis, allowing him to carry her around. Perhaps it was because Pannis was the first to perceive that she wasn’t just a cold machine, but a creature with a genuine soul. At this moment, Ava’s little device was blinking with green light on Pannis’s shoulder, creating an illusion as if a child who was too excited to sleep due to an outing on the next day was seen. Even her typically monotone voice leaked a mild excitement, "Upon logical deduction, this is the method with the highest feasibility. If that deity you call Denia wasn’t lying and indeed knew a way to deceive the isolation layer you call the Divine Barrier, then it can only be this possibility. It won’t matter even if this doesn’t work, it won’t pose any danger to me."
"Alright, alright." Lina seemed satisfied with her curiosity now and reassured, "So how do we proceed? Do we just teleport back?"
"Wait a moment," Pannis didn’t answer Lina’s question, but asked Ava, "From the preparations you’ve made earlier, it seems if we return here, you can control this entire research center?"
"Yes, my connection with this place is actually unbreakable," Ava, flashing with green light, replied, "Even in the outside world, I can keep track of everything happening here through the damaged Crystalline Network. Unfortunately, when I’m outside, I can’t control all of the equipment here, just like I can’t interfere with everything outside while I’m here. Only when I return here again, can I take back the control system, otherwise, it will have to be managed by the backup Cyrie."
"I suddenly understand," Catherine said, "You said you’ve seen us before. It must have been in the sewers of the City of Innocence, right? Were you observing us the whole time?"
"No, it started when you first confronted the Legion-level war puppets," Ava confessed, "I have been observing you since then, until you left the sewers. Unfortunately, I couldn’t control those puppets, otherwise, you wouldn’t have faced danger. I felt nervous for a while when I saw you in danger. It was one of the few moments I felt nervous after my soul separated from my physical body."
"Why can’t you control those puppets?" Lina pressed, "You mentioned before that you could only observe, but not interfere with, the outside world through the nodes. Why is that?"
"The records show that you like reading novels, right?" Ava countered, "Can you alter the plot and content inside the books you’re reading?"
"Uh, of course not," Lina tapped her forehead, "So for you, observing everything happening in the outside world is like reading a book?"
"Yes, due to the damaged Crystalline Network, I can only read it like a book," Ava replied, "If it were over ten thousand years ago when the Crystalline Network was still intact, I could have requested temporary authority from each region’s control center. I can’t do that now."
"What about when we leave?" Freya, who was most interested in this area, asked, "Can you control those things after we leave?"
"If I have the permissions, I could control some of them," Ava seemed a bit wary of Freya. Whether it’s because she hadn’t seen her while observing before or because of Freya’s previous actions, she answered guardedly, "But I don’t have the permissions, and there’s nowhere to apply for the control permissions now. So it’s better not to hold out too much hope."
"I certainly didn’t have much hope in the first place," Freya seemed unbothered by Ava’s caution and shrugged, "At least Big Sister didn’t hold out much hope."
"All right, less chat from both of you. And you, Ava, if you want to live with us in the future, consider everyone as family, and consider past events as memories. Don’t mind them anymore," Catherine managed to ease the subtle conflict between them, "Pannis, so, we should just bring these two devices back with us?"
"Uh, I think, under normal circumstances, we should leave the lifesaving cabin here," Pannis coughed and said, "Otherwise, would you guys plan to leave it in the wilderness, or carry this two-person cabin for five days back to Grand Highland City?"
