Chapter 621: Chapter 87 The Oldest, The Greatest_1

"Hold on a moment, please." It was Lina who spoke, who was supposed to have run to the door along with Catherine and the others. Her sudden voice surprised everyone, whether it was Catherine and her three young damsels or Pannis and Sigein, who all turned their heads towards her in surprise. This was because she hadn’t left the room with Catherine and the three others, but instead, she had stopped halfway.

"Can you all wait for a moment before continuing?" Lina stood in the center of the circular hall, her expression indescribable. Everyone seemed to gather numerous different messages from her expression. Lina’s spellbook and hammer hung casually on her belt. She stood there relaxed and asked Pannis and Sigein with a smile, "Could you give me a little time? I feel like even if you two want to fight to the death, you don’t have to be in such a hurry."

Lina was always changing, and the rest of the adventure team knew this. Moreover, she is not only constantly changing herself but also shares her body with many friends, often changing into other people without warning. In people’s recollections, there was nothing surprising about her sudden changes in personality or identity. This time, however, the other three young damsels had an unusual feeling, as if the Lina before them was particularly exceptional.

Pannis turned around and saw Lina, and his face changed. His lazy expression that seemingly never took anything seriously, suddenly became extremely grave. The muscles between his brows and eyes twitched imperceptibly, and his gaze became strange.

Sigein’s expression also changed. This woman, who had spent hundreds of thousands of years, once declared war on the deities with her husband, leading thousands of elite warriors. This woman, known for her patience and endurance, plotted revenge against her betrayers step by step, even if it meant leading a civilization into hell, her face changed just a few seconds after seeing Lina. The charming smile that was once stamped on her face disappeared, her slender fingers clenched into fists, and the third eye on her forehead was wide open. Energy rays were faintly visible inside her eyeball, as if they were about to emit a strong beam.

"Ahem ahem," Pannis hesitated for a long while. The three young damsels in the distance were influenced by his seriousness and did not ask any questions for a while. After hesitating for more than ten seconds, Pannis made a few dry coughs, a bitter smile appeared on his face, and he bowed deeply to Lina with his hand on his chest.

Behind him, Sigein, who had nearly started fighting, did not ambush him, but with one hand holding her hair and the other lifting the side of her long skirt, offered a courteous salute to Lina as the deities’ women uniquely understood it. Sigein rarely saluted others. Over hundreds of thousands of years, few of her kind or deities were qualified to receive her salute, especially after the Godslaying War. There was no one for her to pay respect to for over a hundred thousand years, yet for someone she herself could not even imagine that she would salute to in such a situation, to a young, weak woman whose age was not even close to her own.

"You don’t have to do this." Lina frowned and waved her hand, "This makes me feel very uncomfortable."

"How could we not?" Pannis smiled bitterly, slowly straightened himself, and said, "Isn’t it a responsibility that every mortal should fulfill to show their respect to the deity?"

Upon hearing Pannis’s words, the three young damsels suddenly realized what had happened. They looked at each other blankly, and then each paid Lina the tribute appropriate to their professions.

"Are you a mortal?" Lina first kindly smiled at the three young damsels as a form of reciprocation, then turned to Sigein and asked, then turned to Pannis and said, "And you, what percentage do you think of you still belongs to mortal?"

"Regardless of how one frames it," Pannis said with a bitter smile, "offering respect to you, a deity, is only natural. Your glory forever bathes every creature in the world, be they mortals or deities."

"I am indeed no mortal." Sigein said, her face void of emotional expression, "But no matter how arrogant I may be, I cannot lose my courteousness towards one of the oldest deities of Yarra, the nurturer of all things in the world, the great Denia who encompasses everything with a loving heart."

Denia, the God of Compassion, the Earth Goddess, is one of the oldest deities in the Yarran World -- much like the original deities of the sea, wind, and fire. No one knows how long ago she started roaming the world as a deity, nor can anyone guess. It is generally believed that they existed unknowingly before deities knew to believe in divine spirits after the creation of Yarra. Denia’s church is very poor but has many believers, the majority of whom are farmers and travelers, unable to offer the church enough tributes and donations. Even so, under her doctrine, the holy occupations of the church would give back the grace of divine spirits to all believers. There is almost a priest of Denia in every small town, treating believers’ diseases for free. Even non-believers receive their careful attention in desperate situations. This charitable act brings heartfelt respect for the God of Compassion, Denia. People can choose not to believe in her for various reasons, but they cannot help but respect her.

However, Sigein’s reverence was not for this reason. In the Mythical Age, deities walked with deitic beings, and their frequent interactions made it hard for deities to truly respect divine spirits. But Sigein still had a lot of respect for Denia because she was among the very few who remained neutral in all wars throughout history. Whether it was the ancient disputes among divine spirits, the War of Gods between deities and divine spirits in the Mythical Age, the war leading to the extinction of goblins in the Silver Age, or the War of Gods over faith in the Bronze Age, Denia held her neutrality tightly and never participated. As seen through the eyes of the Mother Earth, wars fought for self-interest that led to the death of life were the most unacceptable acts of foolishness. That’s why Sigein was being so peaceful – it would probably be hard for her to conversation normally if it was any other deities who had participated in wars, even though she claimed that she wouldn’t hold a grudge against enemies in wars.

"There’s no need for you to wonder." Denia gestured to the three young women. They were taken aback and then approached with caution. At a glance from Denia, everyone felt as if her eyes had seen into their deepest hearts, "We must obey the orders of the Father God. We won’t descend to the world in our original forms or use the divine power to influence the world. So this is not a Divine Descent. I’m merely temporarily taking control of this body through pure spiritual resonance at the behest of this child Lina. Don’t worry, like her other friends, she will return to herself once I return to the Divine Kingdom."

"Phew." Catherine breathed a sigh of relief. She was really worried that it was the Divine Descending Technique. In the history of the Third Epoch, there were many precedents where divine spirits descended into the world using the bodies of their priests. But the souls of mortal beings who were descended couldn’t bear the entire will of divine spirits, so at the moment of Divine Descent, fragile souls would be assimilated by divine spirits. Therefore, after the divine spirits left, all those who had been descended would lose their Divine Wisdom and become soulless living corpses. Knowing that Lina is not in such danger, Catherine regains her composure and said with a bow, "Thank you for your grace, Lady Denia."

Denia smiled and shook her head. Her gaze fell on Vivian’s face, and she touched Vivian’s head and then the back of her neck, and said, "You must be that sick child. I can see that it is a troublesome disease. However, once you make it through this crisis, the journey ahead will be much easier."

"Will there be a journey ahead?" Vivian replied with a bitter smile, "The treatment device is gone."

"Both of you are under Weston’s observation period. That omniscient fellow wouldn’t choose to observe people who have no future." Denia suddenly covered her mouth and winked playfully at Vivian and Freya, "Oops, did I say too much? Let’s just pretend I didn’t say anything. But even though you don’t believe in me, I still have to lay my oracle on you. You are way too fat."

Freya’s expression instantly became priceless. In the history of Yarran World, there is probably no one else other than her who has ever been ordered by an oracle to lose weight.

Denia giggled like a playful child, and turned her gaze to the life support chamber that Catherine and Freya were lifting. The young women seemed to suddenly recall something, instinctively trying to hide the chamber, but then realized it would be pointless, exchanged a bitter smile and shook their heads. When they turned back around, they saw Denia’s eyes which seemed to have seen through everything on Earth, were grinning at them.

"This must be the masterpiece of goblins, right?" Denia wagged her finger at the young women, "It’s too late to hide it now. I’ve already seen it."

The feeling that Denia gave people was very unique. Despite being among the highest of deities, she resembles nothing more than an innocent child, with no disguises. Perhaps for these oldest of deities, there is nothing in the world still worth their disguise.

"You guys can put my body down." Ava said from Catherine’s shoulder just after Pannis had asked everyone to leave; she had handed the small device on her shoulder to Catherine, "You have already done a lot for me. Despite it being our first meeting, and I’ve kept many things from you, you were still willing to protect me. I’m really grateful, but it’s enough. This has become something you can no longer solve. If my existence carries the Original Sin, if I’m not supposed to exist in this world, then let me face my own end." (To be continued.
