Chapter 611: Chapter 77 Unsettled Pannis_1
"I understand why you keep asking, and why you are so concerned about this plan. Your suspicion is that this plan is related to the goblins’ top secret, or you could say, this plan itself is the top secret that led to the goblins’ extinction. Thus, you’re worried about any potential trouble after I use the components related to this plan for the treatment," Vivian frowned, clearly displeased, "But did any of you dunces think about this - if the Rebirth Plan really is related to the extermination of the goblins, the more detailed your inquiries, the more dangerous it becomes for you all. You don’t want me to face danger, but do you think I want to put you all in danger because of my fear of illness? So, let’s cease the discussion. I should decide my own destiny. Cyrie, are those two Automatic Treatment Devices you mentioned still operational?"
"One is in a no-response zone; it needs the highest authorities to personally check if it works," Cyrie responded. "As for the other one, it’s in the emergency shelter at the research center, deep within the center. That’s the one place in the center I can’t access."
"Are there places you can’t access?" Freya asked, puzzled, "Aren’t you the Central Controller? Why can’t you go there? If you can’t access it, how is it maintained regularly?"
"The Crystalline Network there is an independent system, which is why I can’t access it. As for regular maintenance, there is a separate maintenance system in operation, so I don’t need to handle it," Cyrie replied. His voice was always calm, without any traces of emotion, making him sound like a machine. "The purpose of the emergency shelter is to anticipate any contingencies, including a malfunction in the Central Controller. If I could connect to the emergency shelter, it would completely lose its significance."
"Aren’t you hurt to be so heavily guarded by the goblins?" Catherine asked in a gentle voice. "I think if it were a human, they’d feel upset when others suspect them."
"Why should I feel hurt?" Cyrie asked back, not quite understanding. "This is a necessary decision built on logical judgment. Oh, the vehicle’s here. Authority figures, please get in."
"Where are we heading first?" They all got back in the crystalline car, and Catherine asked, "Are we going to the unresponsive area first, or to the emergency shelter?"
"I suggest we go to Laboratory No.9 in the Fifth District first," Cyrie said. "If I can restore its response, I can control the treatment device to operate the treatment procedure. If we choose to go to the emergency shelter first, since I can’t access its interior, you’ll need to follow a very complicated process to activate the device."
"You know, right?" Pannis spoke up. "Those no-response areas are unlikely to regain response."
"Only observed content is relatively credible," Cyrie said. "And, in fact, I genuinely cannot establish a connection with the outside world."
"I have discovered something," Pannis mused. "In your settings, are you not allowed to lie?"
"Lying is a means," Cyrie answered ambiguously. "The use of means considers both the necessary and unnecessary situations."
"Haha, it really is like that," Pannis chuckled. "As a highest authority, I need you to answer directly, yes or no. I don’t need your ambiguous explanations."
Cyrie fell silent, refusing to provide any response. Pannis did not hurry him, just nodded and said, "It seems that it is indeed like that. You can choose not to answer other people’s questions, or use ambiguous words that seem to answer the question but lead others to misunderstand, but you can’t outright lie. For example when I just asked if you’ve ever sent information to the external network, you didn’t say yes or no. You said you didn’t have the authority, which seems to indicate you didn’t do it because you lacked the authority, but actually there’s no causative relationship between the two, and you didn’t ever say that directly either. Rather, you were just leading my thoughts in that direction, wasn’t I correct?"
"The Fifth District is the Medical Research Area, divided into one hundred thirty-seven groups," Cyrie broke his silence as if nothing had happened, and began to explain to everyone, "The cutting-edge topic is generating new wonders by restructuring elements, using this technology instead of organ transplants. However, the treatment device is not in the First Laboratory where this research is conducted, but in Laboratory No.9, which is researching methods to combat cortical necrosis. This lab conducts many human experiments and to ensure the survival of the test subjects, they’re equipped with this equipment, unlike the First Laboratory."
"Hey, are you a kid?" Pannis said, unable to control her laughter. "Even if you pretend not to hear my question earlier, it won’t create any substantial changes."
"Since the Research Center was developed on a dead and quiet newborn demiplane, the air here is all artificially produced. The content and humidity are both artificially adjusted, so theoretically, even the equipment made of normal metal won’t rust or decay," Cyrie stated, still pretending to hear nothing. "But the devices are of the best quality, so even if they start to endure now, they can last another four million days without any problem."
"Alright, you win." Amid the repressed giggles of several girls, Pannis rubbed her forehead and sighed, "I won’t ask about the lies anymore, but honestly, do you think those unresponsive areas can still be restored?"
"I’m just judging based on current information and logic." Cyrie this time didn’t pretend not to hear, "Even though the space anomaly activity more than a million days ago destroyed much of the crystalline network connecting here and the outside, and most of the crystalline networks hidden in the outside world were also destroyed, I can still receive some outside information. I also know that the space anomaly activity was related to the fracturing of the Yarran Continent at that time, and it is confirmed that several disconnected laboratories have left this space; some disappeared in the chaotic flow of space and others appeared directly in various corners of the Yarran continent. However, there’s no definitive evidence to prove that Laboratory No.9 was also torn apart; according to logical judgement, it’s correct to assume that Laboratory No.9 still exists."
"You both, stop arguing." Catherine said with a restrained smile, "Arguing like this won’t lead to any outcome. No matter if Lab No.9 can be restored or not, wouldn’t we know by going and checking it directly?"
"You can finally laugh." Pannis sighed and tried to keep her tone normal, "But isn’t it a bit early for you to worry now?"
"Isn’t it right to be happy about a problem that’s been weighing on everyone’s minds for years, finally about to be resolved?" Catherine retorted, "Besides, the automatic treatment devices are placed in two different locations, one of which is in the deepest and safest place in the center. Even if the one in Lab No.9 has completely lost functionality as you suspect, we can still use the spare one in the emergency shelter."
"What if the spare one is also lost?" Pannis seemed somewhat impatient and asked with a frown, "if both were affected by the space anomaly, finding them again would be almost impossible. Don’t forget, the other one is also in a non-responsive state."
"But wasn’t that because Cyrie was unable to connect back then, not because it was also affected?" Catherine asked somewhat puzzled, "What’s going on with you today? You’ve never been this direct and unyielding before."
"I’m sorry, I also feel a bit off." Pannis lightly tapped her own head and exhaled deeply, shaking her head, "I don’t know exactly what it is, but I just have a feeling of unease. Maybe this feeling is affecting my mood. I’m sorry everyone."
"This isn’t your fault, you don’t need to apologize." Catherine comforted softly before asking, "But do you feel uncomfortable because you’ve found a problem? Or are you sensing something?"
"I just have this feeling that something bad is about to happen; you could call it a premonition, I guess." Pannis suddenly looked up and asked the ceiling, from where Cyrie’s voice was emanating, "Cyrie, I hope you’ll answer this question directly; in these more than ten thousand years, are we truly the first intelligent beings to enter here?"
"I swear, in more than ten thousand years, you are the only group of intelligent beings who have entered here." Cyrie assured, but there was an ambiguous undertone in her voice as if implying something profound, "As you said earlier, I am not allowed to lie."
"That’s good. Maybe I’m just overly suspicious." Pannis gave a bitter smile, "Let’s hope everything goes smoothly."
"Why has the car stopped?" Lina, who had been attracted by the conversation, just realized that at some point, the crystal energy car had stopped beside a large building, "Have we arrived already?"
"Yes, this is the Laboratory No.9 of the Fifth District, or you could call it the Ninth Laboratory Building." Cyrie’s voice came from outside the car, "By the way, Cyrie-0015 is my model and code name, my real name is Ava."
"Your name is Ava too?" Freya asked, "I seem to know someone named Ava."
"Among the people I know, at least fourteen are called Catherine. That’s normal." Catherine gently nudged Freya’s large frame, "Let’s get out of the car."
After getting out of the car and entering the Ninth Laboratory Building, through the transparent crystal doors of the rooms inside the building, they could see many strange devices that no one knew what they were for. Upon reaching the end of the long corridor and opening a door on the side, everyone was startled speechless by what they saw behind the door, and it was a long moment before they could say anything.
