Chapter 606: Chapter 73 Reference Center_1
The technological achievements of the goblins were once again displayed in their full strength. The door to the Information Control Room, which had been sealed for over ten thousand years, opened swiftly to either side without any delay. Before entering, the five members of adventure team took the Breath Retention Potion in advance according to their past experiences to prevent against any harm that might be caused by the stale air inside the building that had been untouched for over ten thousand years. However, surprisingly, the air inside the room had no odd smell at all; it was as fresh as the forest-like air outside. Moreover, it was hard to imagine that a metal door that had been closed for over ten thousand years would not make any sound when it reopened. Nowadays, even with the most advanced magic treatment applied to the commonly used metal doors, unless maintained regularly, they would start to corrode in less than a thousand years. However, the goblin technology has astonishingly kept these doors in an as new condition after ten thousand years, and, what’s more, they still function perfectly fine, even opening automatically.
"How do you think the goblins managed to do this?" Catherine, walking past the door, patted it and asked in a low voice, "I know the metal used by goblins has excellent properties. But it always astounds me whenever we find these perfectly preserved devices in goblin ruins. If humans could master this technology now, it would perhaps revolutionize all industries throughout Yarra, wouldn’t it?"
"According to Confidentiality Regulation No. 405, none of you hold the authority to know the core forging recipe of extendable crystal alloy," Cyrie, who had heard Catherine clearly despite her low voice, replied. "Only those with the I07 clearance level are allowed to access this information. Should you indeed need to learn about it, you’ll have to apply for a temporary clearance upgrade at the headquarters of the Goblin United Government in Lirellgas. After approval, please submit a written application to the Goblin Technology Committee within 150 days and sign the B+ level confidentiality agreement. Once all procedures have been approved, you will be allowed to read about the extendable crystal alloy under the supervision of a Goblin Technology Committee monitor."
"Isn’t there any other less complex way to do this?" Catherine probed, "Perhaps something with quicker results?"
"Unknown special methods," Cyrie, who seemed to be searching, answered after a brief silence, "I do not recommend attempting to acquire the information through unknown methods. Those who violate confidentiality agreements will be held accountable by the legal affairs department of the Goblin United Government, possibly even taken to the supreme court in severe cases. Hence, I suggest that those with the high clearance level acquire information following legal procedures."
"Which means..." Pannis muttered with a contemplative look, "No, never mind. By the way, you mentioned earlier that the detailed formulation of extendable crystal alloy is classified as I07 clearance, so what’s our current clearance? Or what’s the highest level of confidentiality clearance required for the content you have access to?"
"B01 level clearance," Cyrie answered, "It’s the highest clearance level in biology. This allows you to read any biological research papers, including but not limited to the research contents of this centre."
"Hmm? I thought B level clearance was higher than the I level," said Vivian, puzzled, "So why can’t we access I level classified information even though we have the highest B level clearance?"
"The goblins’ clearance system is quite unique," Freya, being a mechanic and well informed about the goblins, voluntarily explained, "Goblin’s confidentiality clearances are divided by industry. In the goblin language, B-level clearance is for biology, whereas I-level clearance concerns industry. The two types of clearance do not intersect. Only pure numeric clearances without a preceding identifier are universal, yet only high-ranking goblins within the Federation own such high-level clearances."
"This is giving me a headache," Lina moaned, in a place full of uncertainties and mysteries, she didn’t dare to walk around reading anymore. Not only was she worried about unpredictable attacks, but she was also primarily concerned about sudden incidents that could harm her dear friends. Hence at this point, she could only habitually hold the silver law book close to her chest, look up at the invisible Cyrie overhead and ask, "Since B and I level clearances are not compatible, I’m afraid even if you wanted to allow us to read those files, you’d be unable to do so."
"The information isn’t stored in the database," Cyrie replied directly, "If the reader possesses the required clearance, I can send a retrieval request to Cyrie 0001 and temporarily transfer the relevant information."
"Uh, I’ve got another question for you," As the conversation continued, the group had already descended from the Crystalline car and entered the building via the main door. Led by Cyrie’s voice, they advanced deeper into the building through a metallic corridor. Although the Information Control Room was named ’room’, it was indeed a considerably large building. Its main portion was concealed underground, extending beyond the overhead rooms. As they ventured further in, Lina noticed the surrounding area becoming more and more similar to what she had seen in Angus Village. Regardless of the layout of the building or the characteristics of the facilities, there were no differences compared to the underground ruins of Angus Village. At this point, she really couldn’t hold back her curiosity any further. So she described the ruins she had previously seen, asking, "Does this research centre have an area like the one I’ve just described?"
"Comparison completed, similarity rate 73%. The initial judgment suggests that the area described could be the Laboratory Specimen Exhibition Hall of the Twenty-third District," Cyrie stated, "Retrieving the actual conditions of District 23, error encountered. The Crystalline Network of District 23 has not responded. The person with the highest clearance level is requested to apply for a large-scale maintenance operation."
The five of them exchanged looks. They all knew what was going on although Cyrie suggested there was no response. In reality, that part of the area had already been torn apart in the spatial disruption mentioned earlier, and had mysteriously appeared beneath Angus Village.
"This is the Reference Center of the Information Control Room," just as they had arrived at a blue metal door, Cyrie’s voice echoed from the door frame, "All those with the highest clearance level can view any internal documents of the Centre in there. I will go into standby mode. You can reactivate me by calling my name if needed."
"One last question." Pannis said: "In these more than four million days, have you tried communicating with the outside world?"
"I haven’t received a command for that." Cyrie calmly said: "This center is the top secret of the United Government, and without an order, I am not authorized to send out communication requests."
"But when you were looking up the entry just now, didn’t you try to connect to the external network?" Pannis asked. "Has the authority changed?"
"Beep beep, a fatal error has been detected, error correction is underway." Cyrie’s voice suddenly became monotone: "I have repaired the error, this is the reference center of the Information Control Room, all the highest authorities can look up any internal information here. I will go into standby mode, call my name to activate me if needed."
"Alright then, let me ask again." Pannis stroked his chin, his face showing an interested smile: "Have you tried to communicate with the outside world?"
"There was no response from the external network." Cyrie answered: "Unable to establish communication."
"But isn’t the center top secret of the United Government?" Pannis asked with a laugh in his voice: "Did you get a communication order when you tried to connect to the external network?"
Pannis’s corner of his mouth twitched, and he asked the girls with a wry smile: "Is this her way of evading the question?"
"Stop bullying a Central Controller." Even though Freya clearly understood what Pannis’s discovery meant, she still shook her head at Pannis: "Focus on dealing with Vivian’s problem first, knowing too much about some things is not necessarily a good thing."
As soon as she finished speaking, she seemed to have thought of something. She turned around in an affectedly calm manner, glancing at the other girls from the corner of her eye, confirming that none of them showed any surprise, then sighed in relief. When she turned her head back, she met Pannis’s teasing gaze, which made her round face flush slightly, and she rolled her eyes at him.
"Alright, alright, let’s get to business." Pannis chuckled, walked through the automatically opened door of the Reference Center. The Reference Center was not very large, with only ten sets of tables and chairs inside. The tables and chairs were very low, obviously made for the goblins. But two sets of tables and chairs were much larger in terms of height and width than the other eight sets, perfectly suitable for human use, even quite spacious, this unexpected discovery caused Pannis to squint his eyes.
"This research had the participation of the Deities." Pannis stared at the special two sets of tables and chairs, saying in a deep voice: "The second era indeed had very few surviving Deities, but in such a top-secret research center, it shouldn’t have the participation of foreigners. And since the tables and chairs here are so few, it is because the people who can come in and view the information must have very high authority, that means, these Deities’ positions in the research center were higher than most researchers."
"Why would the Deities come here?" As soon as Catherine heard about the Deities, she seemed to see the monster that was nothing more than a skeleton and dried skin. She seemed to picture the punch that, despite its seemingly light approach, carried a terrifying force, and frowned: "I remember you said, the Deities aren’t very good at scholarly research, aren’t they?"
"I’m also wondering about that." Pannis shook his head: "Maybe the information here can give us the answer." (To be continued, Please visit qidian (qidian.com) to vote if you like this work, your support is my greatest motivation. Mobile users please go to m.qidian.com to read.)
