Chapter 519: Chapter 400 I have bad news and worse news

Over there, the giant wolf approached rapidly, and in the blink of an eye, it had already covered most of the distance and was about to reach the anticipated location.

"It’s coming! Everyone get ready! Protect yourselves!"

Lune shouted into the communicator.

Around him, all members of the Hurricane Team had entered the armored vehicles, preparing for the imminent shockwave.

Through their earpieces, Lune’s voice rang out again.

"Get ready, everyone! Countdown! Three! Two! One!"

"Boom!"

As his words concluded, a dazzling flame burst forth from the gas station a kilometer away in an instant.

Everyone felt the ground beneath their feet tremble slightly, and at the same time, a beast’s roar echoed in their ears.

"Awooo!"

The giant wolf, standing over ten meters tall, was engulfed in flames, but the howls that intermittently came from it indicated that it was not yet dead.

About ten seconds later, the group saw the massive creature stick its head out of the smoke, its eyes fiercely glaring at them.

The giant wolf now looked extremely wretched, its fur singed black and fresh blood seeping from wounds on its body, clearly having been hurt in the explosion just now.

Lune and the others stared intently at the opposite side, their faces filled with anticipation, waiting for something.

"Awooo!!"

The giant wolf howled to the sky, its momentum soaring instantly as it readied its four legs to charge into the crowd.

This short distance of one kilometer seemed to it like mere tens of meters to humans, needing only a few seconds to cross.

However, before it could make a move, a terrifying Strength erupted from beneath the gas station; the ground shattered instantly, and an unrivaled Energy burst forth from within.

"Boom!!!!"

An explosion several times larger than the previous one resounded.

The site of the gas station was instantly enveloped by a cloud of dust and flames, and a small mushroom cloud rose from the ground, while the intense shockwave rapidly diffused outwards.

On the ground, stones and debris shot out like cannonballs, striking the armored vehicle where everyone took cover, denting its surface.

In that moment, a radius of hundreds of meters around the gas station was encompassed by the explosion, and the shockwave swept across several kilometers.

Even the residents of New York City, twenty kilometers away, were startled awake from their sleep at that instant.

Just now, they had all felt a faint tremor from the ground, prompting them to wake their families and companions with panicked faces, thinking an earthquake had occurred.

"We did it!"

Lune pounded the seat in front of him and shouted excitedly.

A moment before, he had been very nervous during the first explosion, fearing that the giant wolf would immediately escape the area.

Fortunately, the big brute didn’t leave right away but stopped to howl, perfectly catching the second wave of the explosion.

And this second wave was the real trump card!

Previously, due to time constraints, they had only placed the explosives they brought above the gas station, but in reality, the fuel at the gas station was stored in underground tanks.

Hence, the first explosion was merely the bombs set by the Hurricane Team members and some scattered gasoline on the surface.

The second explosion, which it triggered, involved the vast amounts of fuel stored underground.

"Is it dead?"

A warrior murmured the question.

"It’s dead; nothing can survive an explosion like that."

Lune glanced at the man, his expression one of conviction.

At that moment, a team member came over from the front of the vehicle. He had been measuring the power of the explosion, and now, it seemed, he had a conclusion.

"Chief, the results are in. According to the calculations, the Energy released by the second explosion is roughly equivalent to the power of 48 tons of TNT!"

The people inside the vehicle, who had been talking, had all stopped now, staring at each other in disbelief.

"That, that... How much was our tactical nuclear bomb again?"

"I remember it’s... 10 tons?"

"Hiss... Are you saying that just now that thing was the equivalent of 5 nuclear bombs?"

"Should be, should be... right?"

"Then, are you sure that we won’t be sent straight to court after we go back?"

"I, I don’t know..."

The quiet conversation between two team members drew everyone’s attention, they knew the blast must have been massive, but they never imagined the released energy would be to that extent.

At that moment, Lune, the "chief culprit" of it all, spoke.

"Everyone, don’t worry, how many times have I said that the Hurricane Bureau has the authority to act in emergencies. We just took down a big fellow comparable to a spacecraft! Shouldn’t we be happy now?"

He maintained his composure, wanting to give his teammates confidence.

Indeed, seeing their boss with such a demeanor, they all started to relax a bit.

Lune, taking in their reactions, also heaved a sigh of relief amidst the excitement.

After all, how could he be indifferent about the explosion just then? That level of yield could really compare to a small nuclear bomb, although it was the smallest kind of tactical nuclear weapon.

You’ve got to understand, that’s 48 tons of TNT equivalent!

What does that mean?

TNT equivalent refers to the energy released by a nuclear bomb during its explosion being equivalent to the energy released by TNT explosives.

To give an easier example, an anti-personnel landmine releases a TNT equivalent of about 31 grams, while a standard hand grenade contains about 22 grams, and a tank shell is 1.4 kilograms.

Meaning, the energy released by the explosion just then was equivalent to detonating 1.54 million anti-personnel landmines, 210,000 hand grenades, and 30,000 tank shells at the same time.

Such energy is indeed a terrifying figure.

No wonder the team members had those worries.

Now, even though some time had passed since the explosion, the dust still obscured the area where everyone was.

Lune was thinking about what to do next, when suddenly his phone rang again in his pocket.

He picked up the call and listened, and then the smile on his face froze.

Beside him, Jonathan, seeing his expression, knew things weren’t good, probably far from as simple as he imagined; after the call ended, he quickly asked:

"Lune, what’s wrong? Has there been another problem? Could it be that wolf isn’t dead?"

Lune shook his head, first silent for a while, then looked at his old partner with a bitter smile and said:

"Jonathan, I have one piece of bad news and one that’s even worse. Which do you want to hear first?"

Jonathan was taken aback, then realizing what the other had just said, he replied discontentedly:

"Lune, what time is this to be playing coy! Just tell me!"

Lune ran his fingers through his flowing golden hair, distraught, and said:

"Kenor just said, according to reconnaissance, three large mutated creatures have been found in Hamby Wildlife Park, and personnel are being dispatched to exterminate them. They hope we can go and support..."

Everyone around took a deep breath; one was already difficult enough to deal with, now suddenly three have popped up, how is anyone supposed to live through this?

"So, is that the bad news or the worse news?"

Jonathan asked with a somewhat stiff face.

Lune glanced at him and said:

"The worse news is, our Third Fleet stationed on the mysterious island in the Pacific has completely lost contact. According to estimates, they may have been attacked. Perhaps, we are in for a bigger job next..."
